Hey, FD, there is a lot of controversy and speculation over possible disparity between the new mods and old god-rolled mods.

When the beta drops, are you going to make it easy for us to engineer for testing purposes?

Fish?
Fill us up with mats?

But how would you know how much or little grind it is when you are already filled with materials?

I don't recall them having mentioned anything about availability of materials, and we have shiny new mat brokers to help us out in that regard.

Not sure if there will be something like FISH, but there are enough Billionaire engineering experts out there to be able to afford to do some actual SCIENCE here and compare the two systems using some reproducible methods. (Multiple copies of a module upgraded over time with the old system vs a single module upgraded to max using the new system. Actual timed/compared upgrade sessions etc.)

Don't expect much of that to come from the Doomsayer camp though. They are traditionally long on unsubstantiated opinion but short on actual interest in proving their claims through hands on demonstration.

In other words... A bunch of lazy Negative Nancys with bigger mouths than brains.

You don't even need to be a Billionaire. I was just going to clone a couple of my Vipers and compare the results. I just don't want to squander my beta time chasing mats.

Well, there are two issues. One is 'OMG so much grind!!!!'. The other is "OMG GODROLL ONE SHOTS ALL!!!". To test the former, you'd need to have the 'real cost', and see how it works in practice. To test the latter, you need the 'fish-thing'.

how hard it is to farm low grade materials? if I wasn't constantly throwing them away to make room for more valuable ones I'd have a pretty constant supply of them to blow through the lower level mods by just playing the game.

the only people who will be stuck and have to waste time farming lower level mats are those that are grinding credits somewhere and aren't getting a wide variety of mats by just being ingame.

I could get 100 iron or nickel in 20 minutes if i wasn't even trying....I'm sure I've gotten close to 100 of pretty much every data mat you can get while trying to get a handful of DWE's. It's really not that bad if you don't have to throw them out. I think we'll all have steady supplies of low grade mats if we don't need to constantly toss them for the higher grade ones.

I suspect that the people complaining about having to roll through the lower tiers are just going to continue fumbling around blindly, not finding the mats they need anyways, so...

I agree. Low level mats are so easy to come by in this game that the low level mods should be a breeze for anyone.

I really don't understand the whining about grind for mats. My storage is constantly getting filled with crap that gets dumped in groups of 20 and 30 at a time.

I've squandered my playing time filling up on mats and data for testing. This should give me a reasonable spread of materials and data for testing both Engineering and Materials brokers.
I also have a plan for comparative testing the new engineering system vs. grandfathered modules vs. upgraded modules.

So I'll be whipping up a big batch of Proof Pudding from the start.

So i guess it would make sense to start the beta without fish, and activate if for the last week or two.

Look forward to seeing your results.

I referred to Billionaires primarily because they can easily afford to buy 3-4 8A modules for testing purposes with the old system with little if any perceptible change in their bank account balance. ;)

But you are right. Anyone who is willing to put in the time can compare the two systems side by side and do some actual science as to the differences. I expect there will be a good number of these comparison tests done by our usual group of credible experts.

None of these are going to come from the haters though. Be prepared for that. Especially if it becomes clear early on that their gloom and doom predictions are proven patently false within the first 24-48 hours of the Beta's release.

Well, judging by many of the reactions, one thing is certainly true - despite there now being a clear progression in modding, and the ability to roll remotely on pinned blueprints, and material brokers that can swap up your mats for you, and increased material storage, there will still be plenty of people out there making excuses and flying crap builds who will provide me with countless hours of entertainment when they come to the forums to whine and cry about their spaceships being blowed up by the over-engineered pew-pew crowd.

FD - "Hey, guys, we're offering you increased survivability on a silver platter!"
Haters - "Nah, man, the gwind..."

Yeah... A group well known for spending far more time whining and complaining on the forums about wasting all their personal time in-game, than actually using that personal time for actually playing the game. ;)

I frankly don't know why they just don't uninstall all their video games and find a hobby they actually enjoy participating in.

Vind isn't so bad.. there are FAR worse complainers out there. And some people enjoy complaining. Just head over to the PVP sub-forum if you want some examples.. there's a Small Distinguished Collective of exceptional complainers there to illustrate this point.

Is that the same SDC I am thinking of? I think I'll just take your word for it Indigo! ;)

I was about ready to throw my laptop at the wall yesterday after reading all the blithering idiocy complaining about the new Engineering system after the stream.

The older I get, the less and less patience I have for stupidity.

FD, can we please get some mats to test these new recipes?
