Thank you, Mr Braben

I'm sorry, I couldn't read further, I was too busy laughing. Really a nice one !
no need to be sorry! just point us to all these console games that DO offer as much.

here, I'll make a space for you:

The game isn't without its flaws and for the main development line to stagnate would not be fitting to the stature it has managed to achieve.
You misunderstood the announcement. The development of client 4.0 is stagnating, and Braben just admitted as much. The original plan was to optimize client 4.0 to a point that it could replace the aging client 3.7 and run the entire game, including Horizons. The current separation between Horizons and Odyssey players, originally meant as a temporary measure, is now permanent. This isn't good news for PC users, it's a disaster. It also means the old codebase will continue to occupy space on our drives and require maintenance patches until the last Horizons player has switched to Odyssey. It takes a lot of mental gymnastics to spin this into something positive, but I applaud you for trying.

I feel that there are 3 types of leavers:
1 - leave silently
2 - say goodbye, often with a pointed remark
3 - rage quit with maximum drama

I like to thank that when my time comes I'd be a 1 or 2, but there is a high chance I'd have a couple of pints, my spirit animal (zippy) will take over, and I'd be a 3.
Defo Missing the type 4 - An 'Old Duck' - which consists of quitting the game every other month or 2 - very vocally, and then coming back again, before eventually, after several years, actually quitting (has he gone for good this time ?)

Just as much as is required to come up with the conclusion you've presented IMO :D
I don’t think so, Frontier are following a path already pioneered for the macOS client.

Step 1. Suggest it will be released simultaneously with the Windows client (Horizons in this case).
Step 2. Find out you can’t do what you said you were planning to.
Step 3. Leave client running for the time being (required for Windows users who haven’t bought expansion).
Step 4. Say you’re making all possible efforts to port.
Step 5. Go into radio silence.
Step 6. Finally switch off server support as hardware/software doesn’t support future plans (not happened yet for consoles obviously).

People said similar things last year when I predicted that Odyssey would be in a state of beta/early access for six months, i.e. until its launch on consoles. Look where we are now. Ten updates later the console launch has been canceled, and many PC users still can't run Odyssey with acceptable frame rates. I was too optimistic.

Ye, the precedent has kind of already been set more than once. It's not unreasonable to expect more of the same. Expectations are based upon past behaviour after all.

I'm still not sure if the OP is serious, or if it's irony. In any case, you are right, it was quite an impressive mental gymnastic.
can't let the naysayers have the only voice!
Now, now, don't sell yourself short. The Ministry of Silly Threads recruit strongly in both side.

I have EDH on XB1X which i do exploring and I play EDO on my gaming rig where ive just made Trade Elite, so all this moaning from console players either get a pc or just enjoy EDH, either one is great.
Looking forwards to upcoming stuff for pc, I personally think youve made the right choice David and if people dont want to play the game then go play something else, but dont spoil it for people who still play both.

I still remember our debates quite well.

Still wiping that egg off my face fwiw.

As difficult as some choices are, we know when the time comes that they need to be made.

Odyssey as it stands is an incredible experience. Despite a weirdly insistent blaring of negative comments about this game splashing across the internet, potential players like myself only need to see a few Youtube videos of someone sneaking around a live settlement to get hooked. Sneaking around a hostile base wondering where the settlement alarms console can be found is a heart-pounding experience and you've done a stellar job of bringing it to us.

Everyone would have loved for a product of this depth and breadth to function on consoles, and regardless of whether it could have been done, no one can say Odyssey has been taken away from console players. They just need to buy a PC. Choosing a console is not a bad choice and comes with a guarantee of entertainment, just not enough horsepower to simulate quite this much variety.

So, as someone who has played games on any number of platforms, I applaud your difficult decision and look forward to the future of Elite. The game isn't without its flaws and for the main development line to stagnate would not be fitting to the stature it has managed to achieve.

Nice fanfic for the development of this game. Youre either delusional or its 10/10 bait.

I genuinely cannot remember the last time Fdev hit a deadline with a project/update. Most of the time they are a minimum of months off the mark. The development of this game has had long periods of stagnation, so not sure what youre on about there.

Its easy to be grateful when its not your platform being dropped lol.

Awwww! Warm fuzzy feelings. By the way, you still need to transfer Tritium from your fleet carrier to your ship and then back to your fleet carrier in order to refuel it. This is a simple example of the respect towards the playerbase. The best quality of life they offer is 3rd party access to their API and it's up to the playerbase to make sense of it, which equates to hours of coding for free to have decent market info and system info. The system info is broken in Odyssey. Try looking up distance of planets in a system that you are not currently in.

Pardon what? Never heard about the Donate Tritium function? (which is a bit buggy, but in a way that 99% of all miners will most likely never face)
Which part of that did you not understand? I have to transfer tritium from carrier cargo to ship cargo and then donate(transfer back to carrier). Why would I need to do that in the first place? They clearly don't play the game and have no respect for the playerbase, otherwise they would have fixed the material grind, they would have offered a transfer before giving the middle finger to console players and they would have done more than just Galnet articles to progress the story.

Management doesn't care, otherwise they would have asked the developers to improve these things.
