Thank you to all Commanders at Farseer Inc. yesterday...

...while I was equipping my Python to go for Colonia and doing a final engineering-trip to Farseer Inc. in open. Well, actually I never fly to the Deciat system in open, because of all the bad things I read. But...this time, I just tried it. A lot of square symbols on the scanner while cruising. Even triangles! A little sweat dripped from my forehead, as I really did not want to see the rebuy screen late at night, yesterday.

But I landed. Watching probably 8 to 10 other open rectangle-symbols on my scanner. Reading the local chat.

Wow!

There were Commanders, Mambas, Vipers, Kraits, Ferdies, a bunch of fighter-ships, looking for possible dangers for Commanders like me, flying around with an underequipped-long range-trip ship like mine.

I asked "safe to launch from Farseer?"

They answered: "for sure at the moment!" and chatted about some dangers a few minutes ago.

So much luck! So good people.

That is great if you play in open. Not only the dangers for being ganked, but to immersionate (? is there this word?) in Roleplay and have a special connection to others like in this case, yesterday.

Sorry for not remembering the names of you all, but again: "thanks! And fly safely o7"!

Good that you had fun, right on CMDR!

Oh, and make sure to visit us in Carcosa at Robardin Rock (in open, too)
Explorers who bring data to us are greeted by chaff fireworks and the beer is on Loren's Legion.
Chime in on me via Forum or add me in ingame (same CMDR name) if you need an escort for the last jumps & docking.

Ganking has always been overstated.
Mainly due to those doing it, overly bragging about it on the forums and their YouTube pages.
Which lead to lots of players joining groups like Mobius or just playing Solo.

And (unless it got changed) with the chat being across modes/instances now, even in Solo you can sit chatting with Open Mode/PG players.
So a fair few people have no reason to play open now, as you can be sociable while playing Solo.

I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Open, I always have when I've played Open.

We've been fighting gankers there every single night for over a month. Go to Inara front page and see the dangerous systems, those are player deaths. Ganking is stronger now than its ever been, if it was overstated in the past, it isn't any more.

@Max Bothin that was us! I remember replying to you, you'll probably still see me (name with only one 'a') talion and Metzgore in your recent contacts list. We had a good night that night. Won a 4v4 with HERC and kept farseer trouble free for a couple ofhours.

Glad to help you feel a little safer, it's a jungle in deciat lately. Been fighting again just now against 2 gank wings at farseer. No hope of victory tonight, rest of my wing has gone to sleep, so I'm annoying them with my Ninja dbx. ;) o7

There have always been spikes for various reasons over the years.
I have no idea what has caused this spike because I no longer keep up with what certain folks are up to now.
But I expect it will calm down again as soon as they get bored again. It goes in cycles, in the same few places over and over.

Glad you're enjoying it and getting to jump on the hotspot though.
Traditionally the "gankers" moved every few days to stop people ruining their fun while getting to ruin other peoples fun.
So it seems a bit odd they have been there for "over a month". /shrug.

They come all the time because sometimes they drive us off, sometimes we them. It's a good seesawing balance of power, it's fun. For both sides (but not so much for the seals when we're not around) They aren't just in deciat either. Spear (lawful coalition) had wings in wyrd tonight fighting griefers, last night DEVY was griefing at todd blaster. We just did our standard patrol of deciat, saw off a few of the usual suspects, till G4NK came out with the reverski cutters and drove us off. There are plenty of outlaws to go around at all the hotspots for a year now and it doesn't seem likely it all just happened to start kicking off at the same time I started pvping at a high level, so I can't explain why you think griefing is overstated. Maybe you should come out and play again and see for yourself, we're having great victories frequently, it's a great time in the game. We could use an experienced enforcer. o7

I guess Deciat attracts more of them because it's one of, if not the first engineer new players venture to.

I've camped out in Deciat for a few days until yesterday (moved elsewhere now to focus on mat and credit gathering for a bit) to help keep them busy and noobs unharmed, and can confirm it's as busy as if not worse than ShinDez in terms of interdictions on the way to Farseer, and particularly attacks at the base. Although it does seem to fluctuate depending on time of day and what day of the week it is.

So what times of the day do the gankers tend to turn up? I try to PvP in my Vette but have difficulty finding targets anywhere but ShinDez.

1) I'd say generally at the times the prime timezones have their free time, for example 15-20 utc for the europeans.
2) Don't do PvP in a Vette. You either don't get attacked or you get attacked by a wing with reverb torps. Or by noobs. No fun in that... ;)

So awesome, Max, that you had a positive experience in Open. We lawful PvPers dream of an Open mode populated by as many PvEers as PvPers. Open mode is lonely without our Carebear friends and other PvEers! GARD, SPEAR, ESCA, IDA, WoW and many other lawful enforcer groups try very hard to make sure that Deciat, Wyrd, Eravate, and other newbie systems are a little bit safer for all of us. Of course, we "love" our naughty outlaw friends and playmates, but sometimes they get a little too carried away and need a good spanking.

"Spanking" is fun, too.
:)

Torps are slower than a vette? Also, I'm probably a noob by your standards - can't use any fixed weapons with enough accuracy, for instance.

What I want to say is that when you're in a big three you generally only get attacked by people who know what they do and who think they have a chance to
overpower you even if you're flying a reasonable build. So expect reverb torps or mines, or other shenanigans* like a full wing dropping on you including at least one mass-lock cutter.
In case of torps this is hit or miss, either they kill your shields and you have to usually run away, or they stay without at least 1/2 of their firepower gone and will propably run.
Or if attacked by a wing, then you will usually lose anyways.
Or you get attacked by people who have no idea what it takes to kill a properly built 'Vette, then you steamroll them.
(Other way goes the same, if you have no idea what you are doing you get steamrolled)

I have never encountered a fair big three fight outside of arrangements.
And I generally don't attack big three if in a medium because presuming basic competence I won't be able to kill the big3 anyways because of time-to-kill.

With mediums it's way less complicated, and I ran into several interesting encounters where the outcome wasn't obvious in the first 30 seconds, without arrangement.

Way more fun in that, way less rebuy if things get bad. And most mediums don't have a SLF, so no laaaaaagswiiiiiiitch either 🤪

* edit: shenanigans including a Vulture with APAs running circles around you until out of ammo or other jokes...

So you advise start focusing on my Vulture and put some PAs on it? I suppose I could do with learning how to use them anyway.

Generally my advice is to do what you like most.
If eating rebuys with your Corvette fits that description, go for it ;)

Vulture is a lot of fun, I advise to fly what makes you smile the most.
For me at the moment that is the Dropship and the Vulture. Small rebuy, fun to fly.

It is fun to fly. Any tips for using it for PvP? Also, when flying FA-Off what causes the turn to be faster than normal?

ProTip: don't get hit ;)

If you boost all your thrusters get the boost, not only the rear ones, so turn rates under boost are faster (not only under FAoff though).

I have made faster turns under FA-Off than is possible with FA-On, but can't do this consistently. Is there a reason for that, and can I use it?

The biggest advantage of FAO is your ability to decouple your targeting from your ships trajectory.

Whilst there is a manuverability increase you will also be at greater risk of stallouts and drifting, though once you've learned to maintain your momentum through turns it is overall, far more efficient and effective to fly with it off.
