As Galnet is strongly hinting at Thargoid human subversion, I was thinking how the exobiology scanner could be used as on “offensive” or illegal fashion in much the same way as the handheld warrant scanner for Odyssey: detect any “infiltrated” humans.
Certain missions can carry out a covert scan/confirmation of whether an individual is a Thatgoid or not. Once confirmed, you will be asked to dispatch said individual…but if F-Dev were to spend some actual effort, perhaps an extra step would be to steathily inject the individual with the micoid virus, transforming them into a Tharghuman. This results in a semi-bossfight equivallent to fighting a Banshee, but now the entire settlement gets ro join in on the action (provided you didn’t wipe out the settlement first)!
It’s very similar to The Thing/Who Goes There where any of the unsuspecting human settlers could be a Thargoid, however I will leave it to F-Dev if there will be a corresponding “transformation” should they become exposed (don’t want the game rating to jump up now!).
