Thargoid Attacks: Where, When and What you can do about it

So this week, the fighting will be in Argestes and 63 G. Capricorni? I hope cmdrs spread their kills more evenly between those systems. Lets try to save them both!

SPOCS 253 had no real chance from the start - after I had jumped out to do something else, I just couldn't motivate myself to fly all the 400k ls back, so Deneb Algedi it was, and possibly for most of the other CMDRs. This week, it will be different, but I fear the algorithm might just evaluate the nth fraction digit even if it is 50% and decides on that base. But I'll try my best, it's good for ranking up my SLF pilot and even CMDR combat rank (can't verify this myself, though), as the Scouts are all Elite :D

Hereby admitting that part of me wonders what would have happened if Deneb Algedi had not been held...but they wouldn't release 3.1 earlier than scheduled anyway.

Even though the threatened station in Spocs 253 was 400Kls from the jump-in point, there was technically no need to fly out there to defend it - I did all my Marauder hunting within a few light seconds of one of the outposts closer to the primary star. You can get the kills anywhere in the system. That said, if you are fighting in a large class ship then the choice was whether to hunt close to the distant stations to repair/resupply with minimal turnaround or to high-wake and do that in an adjacent system. I chose to defend Spocs 253 precisely because I was worried about the long trip out for repairs if the station was hit, so it's a shame that Deneb Algedi was the focus. It really could be years for it to be repaired, if ever, now.
.
The Marauders have certainly been helping my Combat rank. A group of four seems to build about 1% on my road to Deadly, currently at 34% Dangerous, though with numbers being rounded, it could be five or six. I tend to drop into NHSS Threat 4 and can get anything from four to eight Marauders.

You know you don't have to fly to the targeted station right? You only need to take out Thargoids within the system, I was by the 3rd port out from the A star (had repairs & restock). (ah just seen Edelgard already said that ;))

Well, if you don't mind me asking, did you turn in the combat bonds in Spoc 253 or another system? To me it's still not clear what counts, the Thargoid kills alone or the turning in of the combat bonds?
It's possible that many CMDRs didn't take the 400 kls trip to turn in the bonds.

You didn't have to go that far out (unless you needed a large landing pad), the 3rd starport from the A star has restocking as well as repairs, it's about 6k Ls from the jump in point.
Afraid I don't know the answer to your question, I'd be interested to know too though.

I turned in my combat bonds in Spocs 253. Since turning them in only requires a functional Contacts tab on Station Services, there's no need to fly out to one of the large stations. That said, since there are now two people in the space of a page suggesting that people might not have helped because they felt they needed to fly out to Sturckow, these facts might well not have been known by some commanders.
.
It's a good point that the system might have only counted combat bonds turned in at Spocs 253. The only way we would find out is if a system was obviously well-defended enough to hold off the attack but with the combat bonds being turned in elsewhere. I don't see anyone trying that experiment, though! As I hunt Marauders within a few light-seconds of a suitable outpost, I tend to turn in my combat bonds whenever I repair/resupply so I can be sure they are counting towards the defence effort.

My guess on turning in combat bonds is it probably works like the BGS:

Transaction based with an unknown threshhold and possibly a per-player / per-tick cap.

Some Cmdrs here got the impression that the Thargoids may have developed new tactis? Compared to combats with them during the past weeks they think that the Thargoids became much stronger and are adapted to human attack tactics. Pilots reported that in Level 7 and 8 it was impossible to harm the Medusas with their Gauss cannons because of their strong and immediate hostility after jumping in, they couldn't make use of any of their AX-weapons. The pilots who reported this were experienced Thargoid hunters.

Is it just an impression or are the Thargoids somewhat different now in their combat behaviour?

Destroyed 105 scouts in Argestes so far. Since yesterday, NHSSs have become noticeably scarcer for me, particularly lvl 3/4 ones. Anyway, I think I will go to 63 G. Capricorni now.

Had my first Thargoid encounter a couple of days ago. Decided to do some sightseeing when I landed at the barnacle forrest. Then my relationship with the Thargoids went south.
During a short final my Python hit some organic structures that were placed on the runway. Came to an emergency stop and had to discover that a lot more organic spikes were placed on the runway. Even worse, skimmers were happily committing runway incursions...
I have gotten used to federal flight control, which is a mess - but Thargoid flight control? Total disaster.

I then used my stimulated light amplifiers, mounted on my Python to indicate the path I was planning to take. The skimmers, however, decided to commit suicide when running through the indicator beams.

When I finally landed somewhere and got to my SRV, a committee of three skimmers came and vomited at my SRV which decreased hull integrity by 5%... Weird welcome ritual. Well I returned the favor and let my SRV 'vomit' onto the skimmers. They didn't like it...

Now, what to do with all the Thargoid material, I collected?

Rest assured, reports that the Thargoids are encroaching upon the core systems en masse are grossly overstated. This is not a full-scale invasion :D

Courageous independent pilots, armed with Aegis technology, are doing a superb job at halting the Thargoids’ progress, Tanner acknowledges.

Either he's clueless, has an evil agenda, or is trying to cover up in the most laughably inept way....

If that's the case, and it seems reasonable that it is, then I'm using the wrong tactics to help out. Two nights ago I was chuffed at getting 450k credit bonds in a never-ending NHSS4 site, but obviously I can only cash that in once. I would have got better results for the BGS by killing one marauder, cashing that in then repeating for a second one. That would be two transactions so worth twice as much for the defence effort despite being less than 1/20th the amount of money.

We have zero proof that is how it works - even the OP said 'guess'. Main thing is that any kills > no kills, so pat yrself on the back as you did your bit.

Oh not to worry I'm still killing them.

Worked out tonight that it takes 16 marauders to get 1% more deadly so must have killed over 200 at Argestes this week, what fun :)

Only 784 to go and I'll be elite [haha]

I have been in Argestes too the last couple of days but i have a feeling that it's going to fall anyway. 63 G. Capricorni will be safe though...
I hope i'm wrong, it would be cool if we could save both systems this week!

I killed about 70 Scouts this week in Argestes, none in 63 G. Capricorni. It would be interesting to see if both stations were spared by the effort.
