Thargoid Data Gathering Effort: We need your help!

I don't suppose we have any sort of 3D map we can look at to see which areas have been patrolled for NHSSs?

Btw, their hasn't been a single NHSS reported to the USS survey beyond 146 LYs (although their are a stack of systems with no distances to them, I don't suppose you can setup some sort of script to shows distances for those?).
Arkadi Kreven has the furthest one at 145.41 LYs, I want to beat that ;).

I don't think the patrol zone thing we have now would work and I wouldn't want to log all visited systems. We could do a useful map if we made the plugin more interactive. For instance we could have a button that the commander can press to say that they have patrolled the system they are currently in. Then we could log the system and cross reference the systems. Anything that has a USS or Hyperdiction is counted as patrolled by default, then we add in systems that commanders have said they have patrolled, then we could have a 3D map that shows systems with NHSS in red and systems without in green.

I've updated my USS response sheet to include all the missing coords and distances :)

My newest version of the EDMC plugin has the patrol zone working but the hyperdiction detector is now broken. So I am now undergoing a major re-write to eliminate sphagetti.
I'm also working on integrating the thargoid glyph tool with a google form to make it easier to ID the Thargoids

The tally so far

500 NHSS Logged
409 Systems logged
18 Commanders contributing
8 Hyperdictions

Furthest system from Merope: Aries Dark Region AG-N b7-1 (145.41ly)
Nearest System to Sol: Arietis Sector ZO-A b0 (238.27ly)

Fun with metaalloys

I picked up a thargoid in Pleiades Sector ER-M b7-3 fed it 5 tones of meta alloys and it called a friend. One of them got stuck beaming some goods. So I got to have a good look at it and take screenshots and video

Lol, nice :)

Re 3d map, I wasn't talking about all systems patrolled, just one's with NHSSs.

I had 1 weird NHSS earlier, there was no Thargoid, no green cloud (& no mass lock), the ships were all destroyed not damaged, no corrosive damage. I could recognise some Imperial ships, & at 1st I thought the others were Fed's, but I don't recognise any of those, & to me the hulls looked an odd colour/pattern, kind of a cross between mottled & crystalline pattern, & brown. Is this anything new? I've got screenshots & a video which I'll post tomorrow if anyone's interested.

I've updated my USS response sheet to include all the missing coords and distances
Wicked! thanks :)

Btw, I don't suppose you know why I have 4(!) EDMC processes running after I've shut it off?

Evidence is always welcome! Sounds interesting if there's new damage type involved.
...insider trading? :D

Some plugins and the application itself fire off a background process to avoid locking the main thread when slow operations are performed.

My Highway-N plugin does then when it getting a sphere of systems from EDSM. If you are running that plugin then I'd suspect that is the culprit as I'm new to multi threading.

If you aren't using that plugin then it might be another but not one of mine.

If there are no suspect plugins then it may be something EDMC is doing in which case you could raise an issue on the EDMC githib

The only plugin I'm using is your USS survey 1.
I'm not so worried about what is starting those extra threads, but more by the fact that they don't shut off after EDMC is.

I know what insider trader is in relation to the stock market, but you've lost me as far as ED goes ;)

I hadn't meant to imply that there was a new damage type, but that the entire surfaces of these non-imperial ships are made with an unfamiliar material, they don't look like fed ships. But maybe I just haven't looked closely enough before? I'll post the video & then you guys can judge for yourselves, & lmk what you think :). Link upcoming........
[edit] Ok there was a Thargoid there afterall, but no green cloud etc. NHSS video , sorry for its length, feel free to skip through it!

Btw, has it been noticed before theirs some sort of green/yellow flash just before they send out their 'tendrils' before jumping?

Excuse the white border, IDK how that got in!
I've got a video for that too, if anyone wants to see more.

Not shure if this is of any importance, but I have noticed, that the spawn rates of USS are quite different between the star systems. Therefor, I had set up a test in a small number of systems with the following rules:
1. When I entered the system and the star was scoop-able, I fully refulled my ship.
2. I headed out of the corona for less heat, slowed down and exited supercruise.
3. I took a look on my watch to get a good time stamp to remember for reentering supercruise.
4. I reentered supercruise and headed to an arbitrary direction with minimum speed.
5. I waited until 5 USS had spawned and noted the time from the start.

Results:
- In some systems, I gave up, because I never reached 5 USS, not even a single one after 10 minutes.
- In others it took roughly half an hour.
- In some systems I was done after 8 to 9 minutes.

My first guess was, that a high spawn rate means, that there is something of interest in that system, but some consists only of stars or have no landable planetes. Not shure how to continue with these results.

And another observation I have made, regards the New Dawn Station in Ceos:
I have been there to farm reputation with the Sirius Corporation shortly after patch 2.4 was released. The station suffered from a "Thargoid Sensor Disruption" (Universal Cartographics was not accessible). Some one mentioned it on this thread a week later as well. I have visited the Station a few times since then and this state has not changed. I compared it with other stations that suffered from a "Thargoid Sensor Disruption" and there are some differencies:
- Other stations are mentioned in a call for help on Galnet, but New Dawn station isn't.
- I visited one of the other stations and checked the price for Meta-Alloy. I got good money there (89K). At New Dawn station the price was bad (just 60K). I can't exactly remember it any more but I think I saw a demand of "0" at New Dawn station.

This could be just a bug, but I find it somehow suspicious ... [alien]

Are you 100% sure that was a NHSS you dropped into? I've seen that wreck cloud before but it's just a normal USS like a Degraded Emissions.

You said in your edit there was a Thargoid, but I can't see one in your video? Did I skip past it?

If you're 100% positive that was a NHSS then yes, that's definitely extremely strange.

I wouldn't read anything into the wreckage parts though, that's just the standard "wreckage" models they use everywhere.

In your testing did you also note how far from Merope you were when doing each?

I've found that the further from Merope you are the less frequently the NHSS spawn, when you're on the edge of the shell it's often very infrequently. I've not recorded the data though, just from my time confirming the 150ly-ish edge.

It's not in the video, but if you look in the type chat at the beginning you will see I mentioned it.
And yeah I'm sure it's NHSS, if you look in LCUs USS log file you see it. There was only 1 none NHSS I dropped into, and that wasn't it. You should be able to match times, even if the system name isn't in the video.

That's really interesting. We need to keep an eye out for more like this then!

Chat log reference at 41s in the video, 02.09 (chat log time), 01.09 game time.

Looking at the NHSS log I'd say it's this 1 - Line 811 - 22/10/2017 02:05:47 - Pleiades Sector IR-W d1-73 1, confirms NHSS.

Here's the list of the systems I checked (INF stands for infinity: I gave up, when none spawned within the first 5 minutes and waited for up to 10 minutes after the first spawn):

SystemTime for 5 USS in mm:ssDistance to Merope in LJ
HIP 1766408:5245,85
HIP 1805009:5747,1
PLEIADES SECTOR FG-X B1-0INF63,09

HIP 1843109:4576,24
PLEIADES SECTOR BA-Z B019:3087,27

Especially if there was option to set up Cmdr's own patrol set of systems, would widen the utility a lot.

Now that I know the special sauce for google sheets I could probably allow cmdrs to create their own sheets and save the url to EDMC

The only issue is that the spreadsheets can be challenging to create as you need system names and xyz coordinates. i'm not keen on hammering EDSM to get them for you
