Thargoid Data Gathering Effort: We need your help!

Now that I know the special sauce for google sheets I could probably allow cmdrs to create their own sheets and save the url to EDMC

The only issue is that the spreadsheets can be challenging to create as you need system names and xyz coordinates. i'm not keen on hammering EDSM to get them for you

Already got those! :)

Just dropped into another NHSS with no green cloud with masslock, Thargoid was there, she exited through the edge of the star & made some pwetty effects! ;)

[edit] Weird things happening, being dropped out some way from the arrival star, 20-25 Ls, they were binaries, but not close binaries, 3 times in row!

That happened to me as soon as 2.4 dropped, since then jumping behaved as usual

Yep, back to normal now! Weird! ;)

Btw folks, seeing as we don't have a 3d map to see where our NHSSs are being found, maybe we should at least report which areas we have been/are searching? That would at least expose any gapping holes! ;)

I'll start, I've searched a small patch (30-40 LYs across I think) on the edge of the NHSS bubble going directly out horizontally from Merope to the bubble, & now I'm searching around the edge of the bubble directly down from Merope. I explore outwards until I get no more NHSSs (about 145 LYs) & then I weave in & out of that zone.

LCU - Do we need normal USSs in your report sheet? Could they be filtered out? Or is that too difficult?

I figured it would be useful to have. It also shows us systems where we have found USS but no NHSS

In the OP there is a link to a tool with a 3D map, but I haven't worked out how to use it. M. Volgrand knows how to use it but its a time consumimg process.

When I get time I'm going to see if we can get the NHSS integrated into the Canonn Map of Everything
I've asked if someone could help with that but no volunteers so far.

In the meantime I'm working on a massive re-write of the plugin which will fall under the Canonn brand

I'm doing a context sensitive form as a front end to the Google forms which will allow you to identify the Thargoids by clicking on the components. The form is almost ready. It will always be available so if you discover a trashed megaship you will be able to report it even without a USS or Hyperdiction.

Oooh! Looks like the Thargoid Map tool has been updated and now works for me

I downloaded the latest manually entered data and took a screenshot. Earth is North. I think we should try and get all the patrol zone covered as that will give us 145-155ly around the shell oriented towards earth. I should probably extend it to 140ly from Merope so we don't get bored :)

Big picture behind the spoiler.

Yeah 140 LYs will be good as at 145 LYs you will almost never get NHSSs, & beyond that none at all, unless someone discoverers an irregularity in the bubble.

Re USSs, ah yea good point, although I kinda mess that up as I don't drop into USSs atm

Ooo new 3d map!

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I have figured out how to get the USS into the Cannon 3D Map.

The bad news is that there is another bug in the code with respect to capturing coordinates. Its not a huge deal but it does kind of ruin the automation. When the new version of the software is ready it will be using a different set of sheets which I will merge with good data from the current set.

After correcting the coordinates I was able to see from the map that we have reasonably good coverage skewed towards earth which is what we want. If anything I think we are spending too much time in the centre near Merope and need to patrol more in the shell border zone between the edge of the shell and Sol. In fact when you add in the other USS you can see where we have been patrolling the border area.

I'm going to hold off on delivering the map until I can get new version of the software out.

I did some analysis of the Thargoid Glyphs and there doesn't seem to be a pattern there at all. Probably not worth putting on a map.

I couldn't get the current version of that map to work properly, if you select GR it doesn't zoom in, but it did with TS (using Firefox, didn't work at all with IE 11).

Re patrolling areas, I thought that might be the case, hence I moved to directly below Merope around the border zone, which reminds me I found something odd last night, I went to 3-4 systems which had no NHSSs (hung around at least 10 mins), yet they were 135-140 LYs from Merope. Only the last system I visited broke that empty run (as per log, HIP 14843).
Re time spent around the ctr, I know I've inadvertently added to that, when my hold is nearly full of (mostly) escape pods &/or my hull has taken significant damage, I've sometimes headed back to Merope (or near to) for repairs, or the last time was to buy a shutdown field neutraliser (which I promptly stored as it would've taken a precious utility slot! :p). Other times I've headed out to 1 of the line of stations between Merope & the bubble.
Anyway, on route there & on the way out I encounter a lot of NHSSs, which I can't ignore as I'm rescuing people from the Thargoids :). I shall be going to whichever station is nearest next time, so it probably won't be in the ctr.
I would think cmdrs visiting stations is generally why their are more NHSS encounters around the ctr of the Merope bubble.

Forgot to say earlier, looking forwards to the re-written plug in :)

Well this a 1st, for me at least, a Thargoid has just taken a can of Tactical data! I didn't think they picked up anything beyond pods, other human cargo, MAs, or Thargoid sens/probes.
Wished I'd screenshoted it now! This took place in Mel 22 Sector NX-U d2-32 C, btw it took 8 mins to turn up!

Did you mean 'Military Plans' with 'Tactical data'? I've seen one of them scooping 'Military Plans' some weeks ago. According to my reporting at that time, it's variant was 4G-3.

A few moments ago, I had a (at first) very usual encounter. I xenoscanned the Tharg, then kept my usual distance to watch (about 1.5km). Without warning, there was a high toned, shrieking noise (about 2 seconds long, couldn't tell if this came from the Tharg or from other sources), and the Tharg went from "unlit" to "attacking red with swarm" in a very fast manner and went on to attack me. I boosted away with 87% hull in my Asp Explorer.
Other than that it was business as usual, green cloud, two wrecks, some containers ... my rack was retracted, no containers were damaged by me or something...

You waited 8 minutes and a Thargoid jumped in? Cool.

BtW has anyone noticed that the patrol zone is informing that an upgrade is coming?

I'ts a minor patch to fix coordinates the major patch is still in dev. I'll change the message when the release is ready

Someone is still using the very first version

That's very weird!

Ah no you're mis-understanding me, it took 8 mins for the NHSS to show up :).
And yea I saw the update message only after I quit ED, going to grab it in a sec.

Awesome on the 3D map! I see me striking out downwards was a worthwhile move :), no one had surveyed NHSSs around there before. Interesting to see I'm near an active TS.

Ok, plugin update installed & works, good work :), though as before I have to the plugin extract files into the plugin folder, putting them inside the survey data folder within the plugin in 1 stops it working (as in, it's not visible).

Welcome to the search :), I don't know if you've been into NHSSs before, but unless you can either weather any damage, or you're 100% sure you won't aggro the Thargoids you'll want a ship that can boost to at least 500 m/s.

The Canon 3D map has been updated with the USS data. This should be kept up to date now.

Please could you make sure you download the latest version of the EDMC-USS-Survey plugin as older versions will cause some issues.

Just thought, probably worth putting a link to Cannon's 3D map in your plugins page under 'Survey Results'?

Ehm... yeah, I've been involved in that XD. Check the OP :D

Oh yeah! Lmao, I'd not been up long! ;)

LCU
I've finally remembered to find out what was causing my EDMC processes to not shut off, it turns out that it only does it when your plugin is running with it. Scrnshot below.

YJrYIn0.jpg

As you can see from the scrnshot EDMC isn't running, yet there are 7 processes still running! lol, I've just discovered that each time I run it & close it, it creates & leaves another process.
Any ideas? :) Running Win 7 64bit, rig spec in sig.
And just to re-iterate, to get your plugin to work I have to put your plugin files directly into the plugin folder, otherwise it doesn't work. I don't know if the location of these files is related to the problem, but I thought I'd better mention it again, as I'm not sure if you noticed my previous posts about it.
Btw, do you want to carry on this conversation here or in github?
