Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

Haven't been to any of the sites for a few days but last time we saw 2 medusa at a settlement combat zone. Normally just see cyclops and basilisk. Wondering if they were just random (probably) or if things are stepping up.

We should take into account how much weeks an invasion system takes to be under thargoid control, prioritizing the systems with less than a week to become thargoid controlled (although it depends of the number of stations).

Honestly, still hard for me to fight where there is not a station to fully resupply myself (so, thargoid controlled systems)

Have we know if are the controlled systems the ones that provoke expansions?, Or it depends only from the maelstrom?

What I am telling is... I'm unable to help with thargoid controlled systems, at least, not in pure solo. I have the possibility to kill some Cyclops, but not harder enemies.
Added with the Odyssey difficulty to find synthesis materials to not dock and repair where we can't do it...

I would vote for publish our game time play hours to be able to make wings and try to attack in a thargoid controlled system, learn, repeat.
Honestly, if people that "knows" lasts 3 hours to solo kill an hydra... Don't know about you, but I can't use three hours at day to do it even i would be able to do it.

Nothing completely certain, but their number of controlled systems went up significantly this cycle as it does every cycle, but the number of new Alerts - assuming there aren't 50 invisible ones at Leigong or something weird like that - went down a lot.

They're certainly getting frisky. Well, annoyingly frisky, actually. Just been interdicted four times in a row in a 50Ls journey from CZ to outpost... :cautious:
Pretty standard for me to.
Wanted to try Python or Conda, but am sticking to Krait Chieftain as its got 532 boost and escape (sometimes with wounds) every time so far.
Made mistake of turning to scan or fight after interdiction, and was cut to pieces in 2 secs - no idea of type - sod that, I'm only doing scouts and evac the wounded - running the gauntlet out of attacked station.

So I would support HIP 19198 but can't get evac wounded missions with 0 ports IIRC, so will goto Gliese.

HIP 19198 is up to 42%, the more defensible 70 Tauri is up to 24%, and Huile (16%) looks like it should complete by Wednesday. Chanyaya, Chnemine and HIP 13179 rejoin from the previous cycle, and HIP 18075 enters the fight anew. We also have some more surreptitious destruction occurring in Hyades Sector GW-M b7-5, another unpopulated Controlled system!

Top targets at 10:10 30th December 3308:

Huile Alert – 16%
Bi Dhorora Invasion + 1 port – 14%
Kaurukat Invasion + 1 port – 12%
Gliese 9035 Invasion + 3 ports – 10%

I was wondering the same thing, then forgot about it. It is clear that an attacked port functions like an port under emergency protocol plus a conflict zone merged together, though there is little indication which grade of conflict zone it is, other than watching how many kills are needed to complete it or what types of Interceptors arrive. Two differing demonstrations within one cycle where an attacked port behaves clearly like two different grades of conflict would be enough for me to accept the hypothesis of "random".

Yes and no. Definitely it is easier to defend a zero-port Invasion system than to capture a Controlled system, however please note that it is easier still to defend an Invasion system which has ports remaining. If Commanders only chase those zero-port Invasions, they will be squandering a lot of combat capability when they could be dropping into conflict zones in systems with ports.

I have not heard anything specific; I suggest watching whether (and if so, how) the number of existing Controlled systems affects the rate of change in Controlled systems. For example, any linear relation there implies exponential growth or decay depending on the linear constant. Alternatively, if the number of new systems appears not to change, that limits the hypotheses either to "The Maelstroms are causing Alerts" or "Alerts are constant".

Remember that you can use Groups, Squadrons, and Factions!

Plenty of "evacuate the critically wounded" missions available in HIP 19198. "Active ports" refers to undamaged/under attack ports, not damaged.

That is a quite important clarification I think I missed earlier; thank you!

HIP 26688 (Alert, Taranis) is at 14%, Gabia (Alert, Indra) is at 12%.
Looks like more of a focus on Inhabited Alerts this week.

Thank you! The only problem with keeping a list is ensuring it gets a full update at the start of a cycle; I now have those, and in that process I also saw some new Alert effort in Nihal and HIP 20719. That puts the total progress projection at 12 systems, bordering 13—though this really now needs separating into Alert, Invasion and Controlled.

I'd probably ignore the controlled systems until AXI or similar actually make some decent progress against one.

No completions yet, though progress among the top 11–12 systems is on-course for all of them completing. Segregating these by system type, I get 8–9 Invasions and 2–3 Alerts, so the total could slip down to 10 if some of those efforts are not transferable between the types. HIP 8825 has reappeared, and we have Vaipacnali and Pegasi Sector MN-S b4-5 joining the fight!

Understood, though once Invasion and Alert are separate it is very little extra to do the same for Controlled. Alternatively, consider it an investment!

This is very impressive to watch. Even without any complete yet, everything is still steady for 11–12 systems, as if Commanders are becoming familiar with the available capacity. The overwhelming majority of the effort is spread across exactly the number of systems it will be able to defend. Very nicely done, to everyone involved!

The targets are the same order for now, just with higher present numbers updated at the top of the thread. In addition to those above, we should be able to complete Gliese 9035, Kaurukat, Nihal, HIP 22524, Mapon and HIP 7338.

Victory in HIP 19198! Progress is going well and still on-course for around 8 Invasion and 4 Alert systems, though we could use a little Invasion effort moved over to Alert targets below, if Commanders are able. Chinas, Dhang Tzela and Fotlandjera rejoin the fight from the previous cycle, and we have a third sneaky assault occurring in the Controlled system Hyades Sector PN-T c3-8!

Unfortunately the combat opportunities are fewer in Alert systems, though please note that some signal sources result in an Interceptor fight, such as the AX ship repairs scenario. @CMDR Vulkarius has also been out there with a simple anti-Orthrus Imperial Cutter which some may enjoy trying, or a variation thereof. All it needs is a good amount of shield, hull and speed with little-if-any engineering, a Shutdown neutraliser, and the Enhanced AX Missiles.

Top targets at 15:00 31st December 3308:
70 Tauri Invasion + 2 ports – 50%

Gabia Alert – 34%

Found great system for my preferences - HIP 7338 - with 20 limpets, can do scout kills for 1/2 to 2 hours, then get to Kirchoff station (under attack and so can do more combat before docking if you like) and take evac wounded missions to T Tor rescue ship, just to mix up the play, instead of all combat or all missions, etc.
Tried some other systems, but didn't get chance to do 2 styles in same session - had to find different systems for each style.

Also getting tons of materials and huge Rep in all factions, with the wounded missions.

Progress is going well generally with 70 Tauri (76%) ahead and good surges in HIP 26688 (66%) and Bi Dhorora (62%), but it is starting to divide a bit, when instead it needs to consider turning the strong investments into results. A very strong Invasion effort just brought Marindhs (26%) into the fight in its final week, bypassing several other systems which already had a decent start and dropping the systems projection down from 12 to 11. New Alert progress occurred in Namayu and Yemaki, and joining the fight are HIP 113535 and HIP 38235!

With the new Gimballed E.A.X. Multi-cannons around, I imagine one of the best things to do is exactly this, and to coax other Commanders into doing similar with their evacuation vessels! You should be able to deploy both actions in systems with an attacked port, which should be any Invasion system with at least one "active" port (active means operational or attacked and inactive means damaged or abandoned).

Regarding HIP 7338 specifically, please mind that the surge in Marindhs above has just put HIP 7338 into twelfth place, which is now on the cusp of failling to complete this cycle. A bit more general activity across the other top targets would bring HIP 7338 back into scope, keeping in mind that a progress deficit by Wednesday can be self-defeating.

Shame no parts were collected from that orthrus.

I think V is even more averse to cargo than I am. Speaking for myself though, I could use a little help here—what should Orthrus-hunters seek to collect before leaving?

I will get V to document that particular one, though he said there is not much special about it. You may need a bit of boost speed because the general idea is to collide as a means of removing the Orthrus shield quickly. Obviously you need a Shutdown neutraliser and some means of removing Caustic, along with enough hull to survive said Caustic and enough shield to spend on stabbing it. The lack of Guardian weapons is because the Orthus damages them; at one stage this dealt a single large hit but left Gauss cannons working, however I believe it now functions the same as with taking them to HIP 22460.

The one week list on DCoH is hardly progressing, as the user experience for evacuating injured really sucks, I question myself after a few runs everytime :D

That, but with EAX from the rescue ships rather than standard AX.
As Aleksandra says, even if you block the shutdown it will still ruin any guardian modules, so EAX it must be.
Remember to put the class 2 missiles in the middle slots, not the outer wing slots.

The engineering was thrown together from whatever pins and materials I had, hence no experimental effects.
Most of it isn't needed, maybe just grade 3 dirty thrusters from Felicity should do it.
Cells and sinks are the anti-caustic - do that after the fight though, I tried during the fight and 200+ heat didn't remove it but 125 seems to work afterwards.
Repairs and good sensors are optional, power is overdone unless you want more shield, and the beam was just for popping the occasional scout.
I would suggest the 7A distributor because you will be boosting on 2 pips to ENG, and it has better support for a beam.
For the Orthrus you could make it work with 7D though, no WEP needed because launcher weapons do not cost WEP to use.

Keep 4 to SYS and 2 to ENG, and don't stop firing missiles unless they'll miss.
Wait for the energy surge before your first boost at it - I didn't in that video, and the disappearing frame shift anomaly still pushed me back.
Counter the shutdown, roll to free yourself and back away for a second boost, which should bring down the shield if you were hitting it with missiles as well.
After that, just free yourself again and use the missiles until it dies.

A Krait MK2 will probably also perform well enough.
Anything with at least 4 medium hardpoints will do for weapons, because missiles all have the same damage and piercing.
Smaller ships will need some shield and hull engineering though.

@xylaki, see above!

A strong burst of progress has pushed the top 12 systems back up to a projected 1284%, well over the completion threshold to include HIP 7338. Technically the top 13 systems have a projected 1314% to include Mapon, however this is both quite slim and also split unfavourably between 874% Invasion and 441% Alert, so I consider the course set for 12 systems.

70 Tauri (90%) is to finish tonight, the Alerts at HIP 26688 and Huile have heavy effort pushing both to around 80%, and Scythia rejoins the fight! Several systems should soon complete in quick succession, so it will be of extra importance that Commanders know their next targets throughout.
