Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

That seems to fit the theme.

Now I noticed that on the galaxy map, all destroyed titans (0 systems) except for Taranis are zeroed out.
Why is that?

Now I noticed that on the galaxy map, all destroyed titans (0 systems) except for Taranis are zeroed out.
Why is that?

The direct reason is simply that Titan Taranis exploded while it still had some Control systems (seven, if I recall), of which four have yet to be completed. I imagine your question is more about the reason, though!

Immediately after update 18, Titan Taranis was already vulnerable enough to be able to destroy it without touching the Control systems it had recaptured since being fully depleted last November. This was fortunate, because it was recapturing systems which we had no more ability to win back, having used all of its Spire sites already to do so.

However, this was long before the update 18.06 which changed the extreme strength of inner Thargoid systems to be possible without Spire help. Most Commanders have long since moved on from the Taranis region; a few returned and reduced its systems down to four—as well as the Leigong and Hadad regions down to zero—but there are still a few remaining. Definitely said Commanders deserve special thanks for doing it, and doubtless the local squadrons such as Brazilian League of Pilots are thankful for it.

In the purely strategic context, there is not much need to recapture those systems immediately; they are not attacking anything and Thargoids are not reinforcing them, so they are strategically neutralised and therefore active forces are best deployed elsewhere. The individual choices of those Commanders to liberate those systems are more important, though!

I personally would’ve been curious to see if those remnant systems do anything after the last Titan falls, but I don’t expect that they will continue to be present for that long. Why they stayed where they are instead of going to another Titan is also questionable, but it’s not like we know Thargoid brains very well.

And it was actually 13 that Taranis got up to, mostly because it launched alerts on the Thursday tick preceding its destruction, and the update which stopped them from going through if the Titan was destroyed before they went into control (as it was a set of unpopulated alerts) only came a little later, before the Leigong assault.

At worst, the Titan’s turn would have come later when Frontier made the Thargoids actually re-enable their spires when recaptured, rather than converted into a standard control system, anyway.

I wonder if I should already move one of my alt's AX ships to Cocijo or just keep everything near Raijin for now in case of surprises (my Krait will remain nearby anyway as it finds its use during the meltdown period, with pod rescues and whatnot)... as I will not be one to participate in the direct Titan assault unless particular extreme circumstances arise. Which, to be quite honest, seems very unlikely* given the direction ever since the assaults became possible.

*In my subjective view as I have no particular reason to be invested in the defense of any superpower's capital.

If you're not participating in the bombing runs might as well head for Cocijo. I'm just doing one run for each account before shifting my carriers.
Come to think of it if I set one of the bombers up I can shift one of the carriers early.

I suppose there is not much of a point in keeping the FDL near the Titan when I'm unlikely to use it there. Might wait until Thursday in case anything pops up anywhere else, if not then the Titan keeping people busy means there likely won't be any one day invasion clears so having to move the ship won't be an issue.

Not using a carrier on the alt quite deliberately. Not so much a matter of funds (not with nearly 20 billion bonds that I haven't redeemed stacked up) as just personal choice.

Well done everyone maintaining resistance at M. Cocijo!

As a little note of which to be aware, the system Col 285 Sector YT-F b12-2 gained its first progress today since being cleared as a Spire site in week 48 and being attacked again in week 65. Systems becoming natural Control have not reinstated Spire sites in the past, although Frontier have converted them before and moved their previous progress onto other systems, so please mind this possibility if something unexpected happens!

Taranis remnants are being chipped away, consistent work over a few months by presumably dedicated player or players

Assuming no surprises, Raijin will become vulnerable on cycle beginning Thursday 17th and won't last the week

Cocijo bio-pods will have limited impact next cycle, so best kept until cycle beginning Thursday 24th? I've not collected many but aiming for more by then

Correct! Despite new Counterstrikes now appearing around the next Titan immediately after destroying a Titan, it remains better to wait for Thursday that everyone has a full week to complete those systems affected by your rescued Bio-storage capsules.

Maelstrom Raijin is depleted!

Quarter of a ring in the first morning. This one's looking fast.
Well, I guess they really don't want it to run out of hearts on Monday.

I expect the rate to slow down massively, either from this Thursday afternoon or more likely tomorrow Friday afternoon—both T. Indra and T. Thor showed the same phenomenon along with acceleration on Monday morning, and it suggests Frontier meddling with the Titan damage per core (or equivalently, the total Titan credits).

I posted previously here some pictures of the Titan heart progress from T. Indra and a partial T. Thor in progress:

indra-png.399652

thor-png.399653

In total opposition to typical Community Goal rates, T. Indra slowed on Friday afternoon–evening, remained slower for the weekend then hastened on Monday. With T. Thor it was even more obvious, already having slowed on Thursday afternoon–evening and remaining slow in the peak Friday time.

At some point I will get around to producing a full T. Thor view, hopefully also with the rate as opposed to the direct progress only, but either way it is inexplicable enough to suppose meddling is afoot.

Guess we can call this the "hundred weeks war" then?

That will be a little premature, for T. Cocijo is likely to need at least another six weeks! I do not imagine any hastening which would see the final attack sooner, although there are many reasons it could be much later, such as depleting all the Spire sites and the Titan refusing to trade systems for reoccupying them.

We also know not the effects of the new Powerplay, and there is always the possibility of special events delaying the attack.

Okay! Here are some updated views of Titans Oya, Hadad, Indra and Thor, noting that T. Oya started at half a heart following the Alerts week. For easy comparison I have made everything exactly the same size and axis scale:

Indra.png

Thor.png

Clearly at minimum the Titans having a higher total Combat bond credits available and so need more total attacks now; it cannot be that we gained SCO, the Python 2, resistant Shard cannons and many Commanders returning to Elite while somehow losing damage rate.

Moreover though, looking at T. Indra and T. Thor it is also beyond belief that the peak evening rate now gets lower on weekends, without meddling to moderate the rate. Obviously this is great for including everyone at different times they are able to fly over the week, but the point was to expect the rate to drop for the weekend!
