Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

If they're "looking for something" and they're looking for it in Sol, that's the only thing I can think of.
One possibility which occurs to me:
- Sol is the distraction. It'd be hard, indeed, to think of a better one, especially if...
- Seo is the target (and may already be on a Scythe heading out of the bubble at high speed, given the state of Duamta and Aegis' noted lack of preparation for "what if the Thargoids attack more than one system?")

There actually is. Elite Dangerous lore says a nonhuman relic was found on Mars in the late 23rd century, shortly after which the first terraformation attempt of Mars succeeded. Which could be an entirely unrelated fact, but as there are no specifics provided about the relic except that (I think) it was roughly thumb-sized, it's hard to really get anything from it.

Wouldn't surprise my tinfoil-y part of the brain if it was revealed that there's a bunch of Guardian ruins under the surface of Mars and the Titan came there looking for that or, perhaps more likely, its presence somehow triggers them to be active. But dunno, then you have to end up questioning why they were not affected by the Guardian melter field (or not enough to be rendered non-functional, because apparently the funny nanobots are only in the relics used to activate the data terminal).
Ok, found the relevant lore. Wow, that dates back to when the Thargoid Probes and Sensors were labeled as Unknown Artifacts (or something similar).
Here is the link.

You would think that confirming Seo is not in any immediate danger or risk of falling into the Thargoids' hands would be one of the things Aegis would be inclined to mention in this situation, but apparently not (or I'd have been one of the few over there to think of it). This is certainly not the kind of thing which falls under the category of "medical secret/personal information"...

... though I suspect Duamta will be defended and not fall to the Thargoids. Some 3-6 other systems, however, might not be so lucky.

Was it in the previous games?
The link indicates that the information came from the early days of Galnet in Elite Dangerous. Beyond that, I don't know anything about this relic.

I never played any of the other Elite games. Sadly I got the Elite series mixed up with another hardcore sci-fi game from the 80s (Universe or something like that) that was just a total pain. So I avoided all the Elite games and resisted prompting by my cousin to back ED in Kickstarter because of that. I'm still kicking myself for that because he did back it in KS, and never plays while I've been playing solidly since jumping in during December 2015 (first month of Horizons, so I did get the Cobra Mk IV). All those midnight black paint jobs he got for free (and doesn't play), plus Odyssey.... sigh

I normally fly in Open, but still drop down to Solo for doing popular community-oriented stuff like this. But this time I figured there's a high chance Thargoids kill me anyway, so I'm already in the mindset of seeing some rebuys... so why not see how it goes in Open?

I haven't had any issues so far, and it's really cool and awe inspiring to see hollow triangle heroes fighting thargoids as I request emergency landing at a smoldering orbital to usher panicked refugees onto my ship. Lasers and bullets flying everywhere, the sound of stray rounds bouncing off the hull as I line up for a squeeze into the toast rack.

It's a lot of fun to see the game be this alive.

Sadly, once I make it to Hutner I have to switch to solo so I can put my should-have-been-a-medium-size Orca down on the pad. Why did Frontier give rescue ships only one Large pad??? Why is Orca large????

Abstract beer induced passing thought…..given the age of the Guardians and Thargoids, and past events, are we actually the Guardians who were blasted back to the stone age eons ago? Are the Thargoids just keeping us under the thumb so we don’t become a real threat down the line? I’ll stop drinking beer now and go to bed!

Has someone been playing beer induced Halo?

Meanwhile, I'm for some reason torturing myself with trying to deal with a triple Hydra around the Orunmilla in solo with an FDL.

I'm not exactly sure where my masochism limits lie, but this is starting to feel pretty close to it. The moment I leave this hangar hell is waiting to be unleashed on me and those poor NPCs barely even last a minute.

I thought about helping Sol. I read the first post and my eyes glazed over. I have no idea what I am supposed to do within any sort of reasonable time frame to help. I own almost every possible ship (not the Arx only ones) and have an old AX build lying around I only ever used once... Simple Help?

Simplest thing is to land on a rescue ship and buy some Enhanced AX Multicannons if you don't already have the enhanced version. They're slight upgrade from old stuff.

From there, look at the galaxy map and click on the "Thargoid War" map filter on the left side. In the info box that pops up, scroll down to "Top Systems" and pick one of those to either evacuate passengers from, or fight bugs in.

Thanks for the tips so far;

Regarding combat, I have two ships I can probably use, my normal combat Corvette, and a shieldless AX build Chieftan I was never able to get working. I've probably some AX fighters somewhere to swap in. Which would be the best to fight bugs with, bearing in mind I've never really seen them before?

Regarding rescuing passengers, I can use my Beluga (with a sheild presumably) or swap passenger cabins to my trade Cutter, if that would be better? Are you able to just dive in and then out without fighting, or will I need guns there too?

It looks like you're pretty set already having unlocked some guardian weapons. But be warned there are Thargoids now that can destroy Guardian modules -- the Glaives. Also, entering Sol will slowly melt them just from being there. I'm not sure why you weren't able to work with the Chieftain, it looks alright to me.

I wouldn't really suggest either of your proposed passenger craft. Even if you ran shields you will want to upgrade those thrusters. They are very slow and you will get pummeled during a hyperdiction because you won't be fast enough to escape.

But I'm not a pro at Thargoid stuff. I've heard it helps to stay cold around them so I prefer to run shieldless. I also consider the simplicity of that a bonus; there's a lot going on and I like not having to bounce pips around to keep shield and weapon caps topped off. In light of that, I use:

This FAS for combat. I am not good enough to solo much of anything besides scouts. If I'm in an AX situation with other people I relegate myself to scout cleanup duty, and attempting to help tickle the interceptor if there are no scouts.

This Orca for passenger missions. Again shieldless because you will be hyperdicted 100% of the time trying to leave, so hitting silent running on the drop so the bugs can't target you means that shields are dead weight. Bulk up the hull instead. Orca because it's fast AF... >500 m/s cruising and like 630 boosting. Outruns FSD shutdown missiles every time. Ignore the guns on that, because they aren't used for fighting. This ship only runs.

Thanks again; it's the running cold part I had difficulty with if I recall correctly; everything Thargy just melted me, they never seemed to stop seeing me and destroying my hull even when I sat perfectly still, and like you mentioned I struggled with anything stronger than a scout, which is one reason why I quit playing... I came back to find all my cockpits still had Xmas trees in, so it's been at least a year!

I'm not sure I fancy trying passengers to be honest, respeccing entire ships yet again just puts me off, and the Orca and FAS I have are spec. So combat it is. Maybe. Im thinking 2x AX in the large, replace the heat sinks with the Thargy modules you have? Leaving 2 small Gauss canon, do they still have use?
