Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

They've only been placed on thin atmospheric worlds below .1 atmospheres (which might have to do with Odyssey's features but if I were to guess from a realistic/lore standpoint it's using the thin air for cooling purposes), and while there might be one such body (Pluto? if seasonally, but it doesn't seem to be a landable even with Odyssey) in Sol I didn't see anything out of the ordinary in any of the obvious spots.

If cooling was a concern, doing it in a vacuum via radiation would probably be the least efficient way to do it. It would have probably served them better to park themselves on an appropriate ammonia world, and it would naturally keep prying commanders away as well, but then I guess we wouldn’t have a game.

It's not a full vacuum where the spires are placed, but a thin atmosphere. So no, it wouldn't just be radiating it out into vacuum for the spires.

Thanks again; it's the running cold part I had difficulty with if I recall correctly; everything Thargy just melted me, they never seemed to stop seeing me and destroying my hull even when I sat perfectly still, and like you mentioned I struggled with anything stronger than a scout, which is one reason why I quit playing... I came back to find all my cockpits still had Xmas trees in, so it's been at least a year!

I'm not sure I fancy trying passengers to be honest, respeccing entire ships yet again just puts me off, and the Orca and FAS I have are spec. So combat it is. Maybe. Im thinking 2x AX in the large, replace the heat sinks with the Thargy modules you have? Leaving 2 small Gauss canon, do they still have use?
The secret to running cold is engineering your power plant for efficiency and/or a beam laser with the thermal vent experimental effect. If you can keep the TV beam trained on an enemy, you can keep your ship at 0% heat just by firing your laser.

The caustic sink module helps when you get hit by a corrosive missile or a toxic cloud. It just absorbs corrosive damage so that it does no damage to your hull, and you just eject it like a heat sink once the bar fills up. It's much nicer than boiling off the caustic or dorking around with decontamination limpets. The xeno scanner probably isn't strictly necessary, you could probably leave that out for another heat sink or caustic sink if you wanted.

The gauss do still have use, just that if a Glaive shows up they suddenly won't have any use because they'll melt.

This whole thing is somewhat reminding me of history. Sorry Brits, but it's American history I will speak of.
The Colonial Army had a problem with its volunteers running out their volunteer time and those volunteers also weren't well trained. You can't totally blame them, they had families and farms to take care of. The issue is that they were less than reliable after too long.

Colonel Morgan of the southern colonies realized this and had them only given 1 order. When the fighting starts, take your two shots, then you are free after that.

It was enough of a punch at the beginning of a battle to let the regulars take care of the rest.

I've seen a similar thing with this invasion. Many are immediately hyped to step up, but then when the invasions aren't clearing up as fast as they imagined, they become disheartened and want to abandon the field.

That's ok, to some degree. Take your two shots and you are free. It thins things a bit for the regulars to finish up after.

There’s that, and then there’s the fact that most people can only repeat the same gameplay so many times before it’s time to do something else.. 🙂

Hey, I was there. Had to leave as someone decided it was fun to park on the only large pad and go to bed I guess.
Oh, a pad hog, what a pain. I was in my PG so not guilty but I'd qtd anyway if I was calling it a night. From doing rescues where the rescue megaships have only one L pad we are painfully aware of that problem.
Was it in the previous games?
No, there's nothing in the previous games that could be connected to it as such.

Unless... (to self - No. Stop Phill stop, you've not even had your second cup of tea yet, let your brain rest a bit before letting it run riot.)

Thanks for the tips so far;

Regarding combat, I have two ships I can probably use, my normal combat Corvette, and a shieldless AX build Chieftan I was never able to get working. I've probably some AX fighters somewhere to swap in. Which would be the best to fight bugs with, bearing in mind I've never really seen them before?

Regarding rescuing passengers, I can use my Beluga (with a sheild presumably) or swap passenger cabins to my trade Cutter, if that would be better? Are you able to just dive in and then out without fighting, or will I need guns there too?
You don't need any guns for rescues, you either fight or rescue but not both at once because it's counterproductive. You'll compromise a fighting ship to try and do rescues with it as well, and compromise a rescue ship by trying to make it fight as well. Engineer ships for both activities and swap between them as needed and for bit of variety. Getting bored with rescues, do some combat for a bit, and vice versa.

Both the Beluga and Cutter are fine. All my rescues last night were in either the Beluga or Conda.

Very useful post for those going Thargoid hunting but don't want to be in over their heads:

Meanwhile, I'm for some reason torturing myself with trying to deal with a triple Hydra around the Orunmilla in solo with an FDL.

I'm not exactly sure where my masochism limits lie, but this is starting to feel pretty close to it. The moment I leave this hangar hell is waiting to be unleashed on me and those poor NPCs barely even last a minute.
Was there an actual CZ or is it just rando spawns?
I was there yesterday too, but it took me a while to realise there wasn't actually a CZ bar...

The bars get broken from time to time but the event continues anyway. At the end of Procyon the bars stopped moving yet we did get to the hydra phase each time. It is just a surprise when it happens is all.

so 8 of 12 controls taken care of in a few days. Here I thought it would be close. Still a lot of invasions that will turn into controls, though, if not taken care of.

Despite humanity's impressive advancements in energy projection technology by 3310, mastery over plasma, a unique state of matter, continues to be an elusive goal. The result is a chaotic, scattered trajectory akin to futuristic birdshot, though less impactful.

In a bizarre turn of events, 1,399 Thargoids have been greeted in a manner that defies logic and reason. This unorthodox welcome was made possible by technology so absurdly comical and seemingly impractical that its very use served as a stark reminder to both the inexperienced weapons creators and the extraterrestrial visitors themselves.

The unconventional method of greeting not only showcased the sheer absurdity of the technology employed but also emphasized a fundamental truth: regardless of the obstacles or challenges presented, there are individuals who possess the ingenuity and resourcefulness to make even the most improbable solutions work.

Something funny not about current assault : since the start of Thargoid war, they have been able to capture humans but no human was able to capture any Thargoid.
