Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

I normally fly in Open, but still drop down to Solo for doing popular community-oriented stuff like this. But this time I figured there's a high chance Thargoids kill me anyway, so I'm already in the mindset of seeing some rebuys... so why not see how it goes in Open?

I haven't had any issues so far, and it's really cool and awe inspiring to see hollow triangle heroes fighting thargoids as I request emergency landing at a smoldering orbital to usher panicked refugees onto my ship. Lasers and bullets flying everywhere, the sound of stray rounds bouncing off the hull as I line up for a squeeze into the toast rack.

It's a lot of fun to see the game be this alive.

Sadly, once I make it to Hutner I have to switch to solo so I can put my should-have-been-a-medium-size Orca down on the pad. Why did Frontier give rescue ships only one Large pad??? Why is Orca large????
I've been doing planetary colonies, and have had no problems. Granted, they are the big ones.

I'd be more optimistic if I didn't feel that Cocijo had moved to Sol, and the Earth specifically, just to die. It knows it's going to and I feel we need to ask ourselves why? The Thargoids aren't dumb, and the best method of defense is often to use your opponents strength against them. So, knowing that it's going down, is there a "surprise" within the vessel waiting on its demise? Will the shattered fragments of Cocijo rain down upon the Earth; fragments filled with a biological weapon designed to do to us what we once did to them?

I've heard it helps to stay cold around them so I prefer to run shieldless. I also consider the simplicity of that a bonus; there's a lot going on and I like not having to bounce pips around to keep shield and weapon caps topped off. In light of that, I use:

This FAS for combat. I am not good enough to solo much of anything besides scouts. If I'm in an AX situation with other people I relegate myself to scout cleanup duty, and attempting to help tickle the interceptor if there are no scouts.
Run Cold and Fast - Sheildless sounds counterproductive but it heats you up when it is regenerating and some (most?) Thargoid weapons do absolute damage to ship or hull, and shields don't stop that - use HRP's and/or MRP's.

As I keep saying, I'm no AX expert and so AXMC's Turrets are great fun.

Plus a little combat helps - try one drop in each Invasion (until you die if you have plenty Cr's for rebuys, or jump out when very low), you then get min 18 mats when systems are eventually cleared.

AND ALSO (IMHO) everyone should contribute a little to Barnard's Star (Control) as we need 3 or less controls left after Thursday to make the Titan Vulnerable.

Unfortunately i missed helping with 'Procyon' ( spelling? ) invasion system , but i should have time to login today & tomorrow so which system should semi AX newbs like me try going to first for station defense? 'Barnard's Star' system? Or just check the GalMap ingame and see which remaining 3 status bars?

or wait i guess this other thread from Alex has the scoop? --> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...-that-sol-cannot-be-defended-directly.631323/

Given all present invasions list as 'Thargoid Control in 4 days' on the secondary bar at the bottom,

would advise that even one invasion falling through will counteract that effort.
Odds are very low that we can hit the titan next week I'm afraid, but we take out everything we can and work from there.

I am assuming all Invasions will be stopped, but spreading effort over all 4 Controls and not clearing 1 will allow more Alerts or Invasions or Controls to come after Thursday.

4 Controls = Invulnerable Titan, 3 Controls = Vulnerable - so why not concentrate on 1 (currently Bernards Star has the most progress)

EDIT Just want to avoid fight like a 6 year olds football match with no coach - whole team running after the ball!

We stopped Procyon and I think Sirius, Dumata will be later this evening I hope.
But if any of the invasions go through the effort for taking out a control will be largely wasted.
Deal with the invasions first, then we look at a control, as it's been for months...

We've cleared 30-ish before - can't do 12?????? + 1
We move at the speed frontier sets.
'Progress went from 7% per hour to 3% per hour with over four hundred people active in the system' was not a 'people stopped trying', its the game of, trying to balance around the extreme influx... we do not know what the target was for all this. If the invasions are cleared early - control systems only lose 33% at week's end where the invasions would lose Everything on switching to the Controlled state.

Ok, so a friend and I tried Thargoid fighting today; we managed to defeat a single Interceptor, but we're struggling with the basics. Namely;

We're getting the absolute poop kicked out of us constantly, so much so we need full repairs from being near death after each fight. There must be something we're not understanding? I'm using a heat transfer beam, but are we supposed to be firing heat sinks all the time too? Do I need to buff caustic resistance? Or do you have to fight with flight assist off and fly differently to normal combat?

We defeated one type of interceptor, but couldnt scratch a Marauder at all. Do they all have different mechanics? I know you have to shoot at the heart from the rear, but I'm pretty sure i did for the Marauder and its heart remained untickled...

The Shutdown Field Neutraliser? When exactly should it be triggered to stop being left disabled?

We were both in the Mobius group, but couldnt even wing up until we went to our private friends group; bug? Network issues? Something else?

I thought I saw somewhere there was a decal for fighting here; what are the unlock conditions please?

Gawd, this is soooo newb unfriendly. Any more help you can offer would be appreciated.

Quick recipe for this weekend: Go to Tau Ceti and make it to Poincare Legacy somehow. Bring an AX combat capable ship, ofc.

Land there first to make sure you respawn there in case things go south.

And then find out what suits you best. There are waves of enemies, from Scouts to Hydras, but you'll never be alone. Plus, this spot has additional benefits that come with ground sites in general:

1. The Thargoid interceptors can't send their deadly swarms, and
2. You can always land and refuel/restock at the base.
3. There will be numerous CMDRs trying to clear the place, you can just add some contribution and see how it turns out.
4. If you need a break, just fly a little away or land at the base.

Even though the setting is dramatic (and very much enjoyable, try VR!), it's comparatively easy still. Soloing an Interceptor, as required for that bobblehead, is way harder! ;)

Time to watch or fight the mighty Hydras, hit them or run away, have fun! Guess Ground Bases are about the best intro to AX combat there is. And they are quite lucrative, even me made 300m in just about 2 hours today ;)

O7,
🙃
