Newcomer / Intro The 1001newbie tips thread

84. take note of all anarchy/independent stations and outposts so you know where to go to pay off your fines/bountys

I have temporarily left this one out due to lack of understanding. Are you saying that ONLY Anarchy/Independent stations can be used to pay off fines and bounties? Doesn't seem to be right.

It seems there has been somewhat of a failure by some here to understand linear integer progression, so I have attempted to compensate in the accompanying document where possible, but the numbering might seem strange or miss a few entries where it's more important to be that way (in my opinion)!

Never sell any commodities, until you checked hte bulletin board. They might be looking for the same stuffs for increased price;-)

Combat tips:

Careful who you shoot. Things can get messy in dogfighting. Stray shots hitting authority vessels will get you a bounty and a security dogpile.

Check the factions of ships in the area. Shooting a wanted faction member can arouse hostility from their buddies.

Chaff launchers negate gimball and turret tracking. Great for taking down larger ships.

Shield cells are a lifesaver in combat and helps keep repair bills to a minimum.

If you get a mission to kill ships, you can do this at the system Nav Beacon (which is near the sun) or in Unidentified Signal Sources (USSs). USSs pop up as you fly in cruise through the system, but aren't fixed. You can easily find them by reducing your cruise speed to minimum and just wait for them to pop up. It's easiest to see this by watching your navigation panel, as sometimes they pop up to the side of or below your ship where you won't spot them.

Don't accept any mission to Hutton space station.

It's 22 ly - that's twenty two light *years* - from the main sun. You'll die of boredom before you get there, and your mission will time out leaving you with a fine and stolen goods.

Isn't it 0.22 ly? Still a very long way though, about 7m ls, so your advice still stands!

- ONLY FLY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE!

Sorry for caps.

- Find out what is fun for you and do it. There is no "right" to play the game.

Always turn your silent running off before landing. Many a new commander has fallen victim to taking off and not realising it is still running, then exploding randomly outside the station ;)
