I'm 25K out of Sol now. Still haven't made up my mind if I'm gonna cross the void (my course on previous trip) or run up the length of the outer arm. I have been manually plotting my course, (only 16t fuel tank) and searching for ELW's, so not progressing very fast, only 15k in the last week, but I have found 15 ELW so far. Only found 28 the entire trip last time.

updated your incoming list!!!! Keep going!!!!

I personally saw CMDR Arrakaij over the 65K line and chatted with him, no need to post a screenshot when this happens.
So we have the 27th member, congratulations CMDR!!!!
There's also to be noted that CMDR Arrakaij is a fuel rat and brought fuel limpets that far from Sol, sacrificing his jumprange to be useufull to others.

55,522LY from Sol I came across this itinerant:

Necrotwilly passed me by just before I signed on. We were only 182LY apart when I did, so I had to turn back and meet up.

So very, very weird actually seeing another ship after so long and this far out.

When I logged we were 1300LY away, same Abyss route with different vector. I've tried to talk to you, but it wasn't possible then you disappeared. I try to re login, we might even be in the same system lol.
Also I'll update your incoming

I just posted some tips in your "admission" thread. Seriously, don't worry, the start of your first big exploration trip is where you make all your mistakes, I'd expect you to sustain a fair bit of damage whilst figuring out the tricks and the "smarter" ways of doing things.

Z...

This sure seems to be the case. I've done a bunch of short exploration trips, but my current one is my first long range one - currently dorking around in the Sagittarius arm. I'm trying to decide if I should go for it in my Cobra from here (with about 70% of my AFMU goo remaining and a lot of modules in the 80s, poor 55% cargo bay door excepted) or loop back for Horizons and see if I can get into an Asp. I'm leaning towards the latter, but one way or another I'll make it out there.

I do have high hopes for the Cobra Mk IV being a longer-legged Mk III. If that's the case, I think I'll grab one of those and see how far out I can get. :D

Dang, I wish this thread was a thing before I decided to head back. I got to around 58k. I even told myself when I reached Sag A that I might as well go to the other end of the galaxy just to say I did because I figured I would never come back out that far, but crossing the Abyss and the promise of Horizons made me turn around before 65k. But I will likely head out again after Horizons, and maybe planetary landings or some other updates will make multi-month exploring less tedious. Congratulations to all who join this list!

Thank you for the Cheese!
I just reached beagle point, so the important step for the journey is done.
FWIW, heres the proof:

Hello!Could U add me to the incoming list as I'm currently at 47260 ly from SOL.
So far the Great Journey was cost me a tooht and a Laptop(1 month off ) so 3 month over 2175 system scanned thru the core region including SAG A*
The biggest fight for me is beat myself to not push the self destruction button!:D
Oh I'm in a DBE and if I finally get thru I'd like to claim the first Hungarian player who reached the other end of the Milky Way.(if it's possible)
Pick me as a friend if u want to track my progress.

Daft question but do you have to go through the core to get to the rim? Is it possible to navigate east from Sol and then track north? Or am I oversimplifying it? I have read the description of the journey but just wondered.

The most direct route for a stripped down Anaconda is from Sol through Sag A* and straight on. For any ship with a lower single jump range you have to cross the gap to the final arm to the right of the Sol-Sag A* centre line, so the most direct route wouldn't take you through the absolute core.

For my second trip to the outer rim, my outward journey was about as far from the core as it was possible to get!
Limit trip north 2b.jpg
but that was obviously not an efficient route :D

Using maps like this is there any chance Cdrs could illustrate their routes? Apologies but I have difficulty reading and absorbing large bodies of textual information;)
Above map is amazing by the way

Probably but the problem is that map is only 2d and u can't illustrate if u just go up or down like me I just started go above Sol 975ly and then turn into the core and around 16000ly start descent slowly.if u listen to me avoid the core as route planning there is pain in the @'s.

CMDRs, we are organizing a trip to the Far Rim focused on planetary exploration via SRV. The route will touch several of the most interesting POIs of the Milky Way, a case wehre the journey is better than the destination. Departure time should be in the second half of January, details (provisory ones) are few pages ago in this very thread. Erimus will lead. So if you can't make it now very soon there will be an amazing experience!!!

Lol, I think we already separated. Say hello to beagle point for me!!!

Congratulationss!!!!!!! You are the 28th member of the club, updating list now. I get Archimbaust is also your ingame name

Hi Voorheez!!!!! In the OP there's a Map with Erimus Route, he used an ASP. Below the map there are system names were you can cross. Just point the Roncevaux Crossing (sys name in OP) and you really can't miss the Far Rim.

Post #139 has a route with maps all the way from Sol to Beagle Point. If you check the POIs marked on it in the Galactic Mapping thread, it'll give you the exact details of the procedural names to aim for.

Over the weekend I'll put together a more detailed route with more info, and hopefully Akira will add it to the OP to help aid explorers enroute to the far rim.
