64,000LY out and this happened:

Screenshot_0386_zpscsbl3rvc.png

I passed through the one on the right... got the "fuel scooping" as I hit the system and had a face full of yellow (and pants full of brown but we'll not mention that) then stopped directly in front of the A class star with the K class behind me.

Temp started climbing almost as quickly as my blood pressure and pulse, but I was able hightail it out of the coronas with the temp peaking only in the high 80s.

Remember not to get complacent folks, the close binaries can strike at any time.

I'm planning to make another Buckyball run to Sag A* with some of the other crazy Buckyballers on the weekend of the 28th. Ever since I chatted to CMDR Marlon Blake while he was 65K out and I was merely at Sadge, I've always planned to continue from Sag A* onto the meridian at some point, so I'm hoping to join the club before Christmas 3301.

There's a few things that I need to take care of closer to the bubble first, so my departure date might slip, but I'm certain that my next trip to Sag A* will just be the beginning of a longer expedition. As I'm a galactic tourist and casual explorer this is probably a bad sign for the neighbourhood, sorry! ;)

RULES
1: Go 65000 LY from Sol or more.
2: Distance is always calculated from Sol, not your starting point.
3: Making it back alive is not a requirement to join the Club.

Just another 1000LY and then you can play with binaries as much as you like.

First rule when getting wedged in the inferno..

Rule #1 - Drop out of supercruise ASAP.

Followed by off-lining the Fuel Scoop :)

But this technique is only needed if you come out REALLY close to a corona (its only happened twice to me in over 50,000 jumps so will probably never be needed)...

Sounds like you just grazed one of the stars

Heh, the Buckyball Run approach works great! It's like teleporting into the center, and then you only have to trudge the remaining 40K north.

Looking forward to seeing you at the top of my map :D

If you're still out there in the New Year, you could join up with the Distant Worlds expedition.

Many thanks for this! Happened to me a few days ago, and I got 3rd degree burns getting out of there...

Earth-like 64,748LY from Sol... not quite a record breaker but nice to find all the same :)

I really ought to stop trawling around here and pop over 252LY West and join the club, but I keep finding shinies :D

Hey Commanders! A week ago, I started my journey to the other end of the galaxy on a spur-of-the-moment decision to follow my friend, CMDR Nip Nip. Just a few minutes ago, I finally passed the 65k mark!

My ship is a little roughed up, bit of canopy damage, but all in all not too bad for my first serious exploratory mission. Not quite done yet though, still have to go out and meet up with Nip Nip, board her ship, and sabo-

...erm, take selfies. Yes. Gratuitous selfies.
Anyway, I should be reporting back soon with my max distance submission. Safe flying, commanders!

I appear to be attempting to be the most Easterly member of the club... I'm obsessed with trying to find the first star right on the edge that gets me over the 65KLY mark. I found another littler spur of stars a bit further West than before, just over the 64,340LY line. Stopped at that point and will look again this evening :)

Hey, it's something to aim for!

I think I was around 1k ly east of the meridian when I found a star that was 65k away, so they're definitely out there, just tougher to find.

Please traveller, do that 3 jumps that make you a club a member. I'm dreaming of smelted anaconda a jump away... After you can survey all the east and north and even south and west! :)

I'm gonna call this my max distance unless I find something farther on my way back.
Here's some more selfies, including some Asp-to-Asp shots (How l-lewd!):

Another update on my trip!

I have arrived at Sagittarius A*, after 966 jumps and one week of travel carrying me more than 25,000 lightyears. There I met briefly with CMDR KitsuneThe Fluff, who had impressively traveled all the way to the core... in a Fer-De-Lance!

I am now 25,900 lightyears from Sol, with 39,100 more ahead of me. Please update my progress in the original post!

Still determined to be the most Easterly joiner of the club, and while I am at it: find the most Easterly point that is >65KLY from Sol. I'm bouncing around the 64,300LY line while 6,900LY East of the meridian. I may be out of luck as I think going further West will in fact get me closer, so I could be on a complete hiding to nothing.

But it's fun finding out! :D
