The Asp Explorer - The Pilot

I must say, I was amazed how well it handles in combat, not a bad ship at all that ASP.... whatever ASP stands for... no idea...

and? You like that booster sound?... It triggered me to suggest a mixer application for cmdr's to create their own engine sound that bad I think it is in the....

teyrelaş...
hmmm... ;)

The quality of footage in this video was outstanding, keep up the good work . Can’t wait for the next one.
Now to try out the asp x, couldn’t stand the engine sound. Looking forward to hear the revised engine sound.

But for just a little over twice the price of the hull alone, you can have the de-facto best SMALL exploration ship available: https://s.orbis.zone/4oan
The Dolphin. In full Exploration configuration you have everything, and I do mean Everything you could possibly need, except a fighter bay.

And the advantages over the Asp X?

1. It sounds much better.
2. Supercruise maneuverability.
3. Fully unobstructed view.
4. Tiny profile enables it to land in places neither the AspX or DBX can fit.
5. The base hull price is 1.3m, the AspX weighs in at 6.6m

This makes the Dolphin easily the best-in-small-class Explorer. Add to that the right engineering, a Guardian Booster, and it can nearly match the Anaconda in jump range.

I'd say that the best small explorer is the Imperial Courier.
  • It sounds better and has a better view than Dolphin
  • Its significantly more agile and much MUCH faster than the Dolph
  • It has a little more amour and over twice the shields.
  • Three class 2 hard-points
  • Fully kitted out its almost 2.5 million credits cheaper.

The only real advantage that Dolphin has is about 6 more light years per jump. But, the Courier has excellent synergy between it scoop, FSD and, tank which means I can keep a faster sustained jump series which eats into that small lead.

My build (Armed Buckyball Racer): https://s.orbis.zone/4s_i

@IndigoWyrd help me out here
1. The dolphin has way more, bigger, slots
2. Sound is subjective, i hate the couriers "teeth rubbing on a seatbelt" sound effect
3. The couriers view is not better, you can barely see in front of yourself
4. Last i remeber the dolphin is very agile, pretty close to the courier
5. Wow a whole 2 milliom creidts, im broke now, how will i dig myself out of this hole

Let's compare...

Dolphin Internals: 4 Power Plant, 5 Thrusters, 4 FSD, 4 Life Support, 3 Distributor, 3 Sensor, 4 Fuel
Raw Armor: 198
iCourier Internals: 4 Power Plant, 3 Thrusters*, 3 FSD, 1 Life Support, 3 Distributor, 2 Sensors, 3 Fuel
Raw Armor: 144

Dolphin has larger thrusters, but *the iCourier can fit Enhanced Performance Thrusters, larger life support, larger sensor and a larger fuel tank. It also has slightly more raw armor.
In terms of raw speed, EPT's will outrun 5A's.

2 and 3 are both subjective, though the Dolphin does offer a fully unrestricted view out the front. The Dolphin's boost sound... it does remind me of the sound Flipper might have made if touched inappropriately. But this does not effect performance.

4. The Dolphin, like all Saud Kruger ships, is exceptionally agile for its size. However, there are some people who have experienced a bug that causes the Dolphin to super-heat under certain circumstances. This has not been reported to affect the iCourier.

5. The Dolphin hull is less expensive than the iCourier, though fully outfitted, due to the larger internals and core slots, will cost a bit more in the long run.

The iCourier does sport an impressive weapons array with 3 medium hard points - though this is usually meaningless for Exploration, as it's pretty rare to actually have to fight in deep space. As a small Bounty Hunting ship though, the iCourier is a blast! I made no small bit of credits hunting in one.
Compared to the Dolphin's 2 small hardpoints, the head-to-head tactical advantage goes to the iCourier.

As for which is the "better" Exploration ship...

I've got to give it to the Dolphin - More Fuel, Larger Internals (bigger fuel scoop), and one curious advantage that gets overlooked frequently - the Dolphin has a very narrow, very small landing footprint. You can land a Dolphin in places other ships, including the Diamondbacks simply will not fit. There's also room for a SRV bay, something Explorers tend to like to take with them.

@baudelier : I suppose I could do this...build: https://s.orbis.zone/4t1h compare: https://s.orbis.zone/4t1j

You get a speed advantage, and a little bit more shields, but firepower is way outmatched.

Final Verdict: They both very good ships, but push come to shove, the Dolphin will pull ahead as an exploration craft.

This was my early uber rare trader. It sat in retirement until I had a need for a long range engineer mats gatherer, at which it EXCELS. I love this thing.
I've had a few years out and just got back into this and my Asp was a great rare runner back then, good jump range, decent cargo and enough hardpoints and agility to hold its own in a fight - great early game ship.. I still have it but i've re-configured it as a miner now since mining has changed totally and seems a decent money spinner.

You guys keep sh*t-talking my beloved asp, you'll have to deal with this angry space-italian!:cool:
I farted my way around the galaxy on my trusty "Parsifal" and i wouldn't trade it for a fleet of panther-clippers!

Infact, i mantain Delacy are the Alfa Romeo of the 34th century: both produce amaizingly flawed masterpieces.

Oh and btw, dolphins may not fart as much as asps, but they burp really loudly.... not cool!

In any case, great video as always, The Pilot. Absolutely love your content.... keep it up!!(y)

Aren't all "content providers" evil, according to the forum? :)

All these years later I have a spare Cutter or two, so that's my miner. I mean, the Asp is a fine miner, but for me mining is like fishing (even if I don't fish). Just sit back on a Saturday evening and fish for painite, and a few hours later I have another 435M CR. So, yeah, mining is a wee bit better these days for farming CR. :D

Asp is still my "get out and do fun things" ship--in fact, it was the taxi I took to Enceladus so I could do my first planetary (ok, moon) circumference run. Tho in that case, I'm spending way more time in my SRV than in my Asp.

Not according to this space italian!
Infact, i resent anyone pretending to snub elite dangerous content creators on behalf of the "community" , as i am part of this community and yet enjoy watching Obsidian, Down to earth astronomy, Exigeous, Scott Manley, The Pilot and above all..... the great Isinona! :)
