The "average players" piloting skills = ROTFL!

I'm having enough of those threads all over the forum about 2.1 AI being so hard (and that the OP will leave the game - as dozens of his friends ofcourse - if Frontier wont "fix" this!).

Watching many of the YouTube gameplay vids I see only very few showing what does it mean to pilot an Elite's realm spaceships like a pro. I might not have the 200 mils worth baby under my sticks, but after almost 1,5 year of my gameplay think I know thing or two about DOGFIGHTING by now. Even so I'm not even "Dangerous" rank yet!!

Because of above I'd like to show some of those "average players" what does it mean to MOVE & POSITION YOUR SHIP AGAINST YOUR ENEMIES in the void. There are few very nice videos about it out there (Vindicator Jones' ones are my favorite*), so I'm not aiming for such a detailed great explanations, I just plan to show off few minutes of my very own casual combat gameplay showing how AWARE PILOTING SKILLS differs from what I believe "average players" thinks of.

With this maybe just few of them will think twice before posting their point of view about "the game being too hard for casual players" and realize how amazingly the game is designed and how well it respects and rewards your piloting skills (if you have any!!!). **

Though, if any one of you Commanders would be so kind to point me out an efficient (the less CPU demanding the better) software to record a gameplay video, I'd be much appreciated. I can ofcourse buy the software for its full prize.

...and ofcourse if you'd like to share your very own fights you're being proud of, please share a vid in this threaf as well!:)

In meantime -- fly dangerously out there Commanders!!! :D

I thought you were going to post a few videos but turns out you didn't manage to record some yet. Well.

What kind of graphics card do you have? Shadowplay for the nvidia cards (it comes with the bundle when you buy the card) is pretty neat in recording videos without degrading performance too much. High quality videos take up quite some place on the harddrive though.

Unfortunately OP, you're making some assumptions that people are not trying to improve or adapt. I really held off passing judgement on the new AI, and for a while, i thought I was getting the hang of it. Yeah, died a few times, but i think those were due to the OP weapons some of the NPCs got.

I can fly FA Off, i do pip management, but i'm afraid, i'm at my max skill level after playing since launch. There is no further git gud available to me. I'm as git gid as i'm going to get. We all have our skill limits, and the AI has surpassed mine.

Will be giving the NPCs a try out tonight after the patch. Hopefully its now on average at a level where I can go 10 minutes without dying.

I must add that with the improved AI you are "forced" to use some of the more advanced maneuver-tricks in the book.
This alone will improve your piloting. Something the 2.0 AI never could.

One thing is quite sure - I need a new flightstick. I spilled some soda over it yesterday and had to land FAoff at an outpost, because the button for toggling it fizzled.

Now, I know that a new (and maybe better stick) won't make me Master Race instantly - still, the utility of a good stick can take away a lot of workload. I don't know what the "average" people use, but I bet the average hardware is in general not a HOTAS setup.

You should consider doing a live twitch broadcast in Open mode telling us in advance what system you will be in. I am sure you would get loads of viewers if you did this. I for one would get out the popcorn and enjoy watching it.

X52 Pro is the best bang for your buck. And the flight stick in game is designed after it.

Build quality is cheaper compared to more expensive HOTAS setups, but I still really like it.

This forum has really gone down hill lately. derision, abuse, personal attacks are now common place. With all due respect Ian as a moderator I would have thought you would discourage such behaviour.

Ah well.

That's strange bc I suck at both and have only died 3 times since 2.1 hit. Not trying to have a dig on you just trying to understand where the totally different experience comes from.

Calling names like "whinning" "Lazy" and being derisive is making this forum an ugly and unpleasant place to be. I shall not be following this thread.

I personally abhor the fanboy accusations towards anyone who likes the AI better now - and it is true that there has been some* whining going on on these forums.

*meaning a whole lot

, personal attacks are now common place.

Where has OP personally attacked anyone? Not to say that his overgeneralizing 'git good' attitude should be defended but lets stay with what is true.

In fairness to the OP (who may have come across a little "direct") unlike most Sim's I've played (and believe me I've played them all from Janes Longbow up to the new Mirage 2000 for DCS with a scary amount of IL2 thrown in!)
Elite Dangerous doesn't seem to have much of a culture of "self-improvement"
The game set-up itself doesn't seem to encourage it with limited Training Missions...CQC having obstacle maps and ship choices that don't reflect real world tactical choices, no quick mission generator to practice flight/fight scenarios and no in game track recording...so no means of analysing your fights to ID your mistakes and weaknesses...
Then looking at home the game is supported there is very little tactical talk and discussion little online help available and few true training videos" (people like VJ etc being honourable exceptions) coming new into the game you'd struggle to find information about basic FAOF manoeuvres...dogfighting techniques...how to improve shooting accuracy etc etc...
When you look at discussion around being more competitive in PVP or more confident engaging the original 2.1 AI it frequently centred around getting a better build, choosing the right ship or getting engineer upgrades - rather than pilot skill...
Maybe it's because a lot of people have come into Elite from a levelling/ MMO style of gameplay rather than flight sim I don't know...but it would be nice if ED could encourage more focus on skills not kit by throwing in a quick mission generator and some kind of track recorder...and if people want kudo - perhaps look at sharing knowledge with the community - just like the OP is discussing!

I'll just ignore the rest of your rant - if you have a NVidia card, Shadowplay should fulfill all your needs. It is extremely light on the CPU indeed.
