The battle for HIP 87621

Commanders,

Your Superpower needs you!

The mystery surrounding HIP 87621 has gripped the Galaxy since August, when Terri Tora's trail of beacons led Commanders to the system. Where there had been whispers of a secret hidden here for decades by the October Consortium.

Speculation has grown in recent months, and the Powers have been building an enclave of systems around HIP 87621, signaling high interest in something. However, no direct moves had been made… until now!

With the recent discovery of the Radicoida unica Exobiological and rumours of it’s biological applications, rival powers are clashing in open combat across the enclave surround HIP 87621. Each Superpower is determined to ensure that one of its loyal Powers emerges victorious. Campaigns have begun to take control of the enclave surrounding the system, and in doing so, controlling access to this valuable resource and being the first to benefit from it.

Each superpower has opened with a community goal for the initial 2 weeks of the campaign which will reward a pre-engineered multi-cannon. However, the true and longer term objective for each power is to take control of the 49 system enclave, with each power offering a specially engineered version of a relevant powerplay module if they emerge victorious. How this plays out is entirely up to you, Commanders.

As part of this event we have made the following adjustments.
  • Powerplay:
    • Markers will now be placed on the galaxy map over rival systems, indicating targets for undermining efforts

  • A maximum of 5 markers will be placed per Power
    • The system targets of these markers is determined entirely by player undermining efforts - the top 5 undermined system by players in a power will have a marker placed over them
    • Marker placement will update once per day
  • Within these marked systems, Power Conflict Zones will generate, fully enabling combat as a viable means of undermining
    • In the event two powers are undermining the same system, the CZ will take place between the occupying power and the undermining power with the most control score at the time of the daily update.
  • An additional +25% merit bonus will be awarded for all undermining actions taken within a marked system
  • Merit Bonuses will now be awarded for undermining and subsequently occupying another power's system
    • A system must be undermined to unoccupied, and then acquired within 1 cycle for the bonus to be issued
    • Only the agents within power that acquires the system will be issued bonuses, and that power must have actively taken part in undermining the system to the unoccupied state
    • Merit bonuses will be issued on a tier system, so agents with a higher undermining contribution will receive a higher bonus:
      • 25th Percentile - 20,000 Merits
      • 50th Percentile - 10,000 Merits
      • 75th Percentile - 5,000 Merits
    • Bonuses will be issued on a weekly basis over the maintenance period
  • Initially, both of these new mechanics will only be active for the Powerplay systems surrounding HIP 87621.
  • Within the enclave, exploited systems do not require a fortified system in range.
Additionally, we have deployed further fixes to the fleet carrier cargo transfer and sale issues. We can also confirm that the recent reduction in trade merits was unintentional, and a fix has been also been deployed to resolve this - trade merits should now be restored whilst the 1t trading exploit remains closed off.

Uh Oh!
Last thing I wanted, but was hinted at by a few players - a darn PP 12 way CG.

No PP pledge, no interest in, what is it, Reinforcing or Undermining.
I lost my 12 sided dice from D&D some years ago! Ah - google Roll a 12 Sided Die!!!!!!

<checking, Vodka and beer whilst logging in>

Ooooooh - and a message from Frank Raddix awaits!

EDIT got rewards and G5 suit in ship - don't need to go to station.

Cool. PPs are happy, but I not. I don't see this CG enticing, since I think that even in PP 2.0, the bar is set too high, especially that we still don't have a pvp-oriented hi-cap shield available for everyone since day one.

Surely this just favours the power(s) with the largest player base? And won't results be skewed by the out-of-game alliances that dominate the PP landscape (the largest containing 5 powers including the largest one).
The confused superpower / power theming makes it very unclear whether ZYADA (or at least ZADA) is supposed to be thematically taking over the region together or at each other's throats as well because There Can Be Only One (And It's Not You, Patreus).

Could someone translate the instructions from Chinese, please? :giggle:

This is the core gameplay. Think of it as chessboard with 49 squares with each square representing a system near HIP 87621 and belonging to a PP superpower.

I'm with Mahon for example.

Markers will appear for me on the square belonging to a hostile PP power that I can undermine. The top 5 undermined systems by Mahon commanders will be marked by another symbol at the end of the day - and in these 5 systems Power Conflict Zones will appear.

If any of the top 5 systems are successfully undermined (determined by the outcome of the Power Conflict Zones) then they can become unoccupied then be taken over by my Power (Mahon) in a PP acquisition process.

Whoever controls the most squares among the 49 wins 😁

(Simplified it greatly fyi)

Ok? So, since in10 years I've never done any PP at all and know nothing about it... what does it mean? Do I have to pledge to a power to participate?
