The Bounty Hunting & Bounties tips, and general discussion thread

The bounty vouchers are stored in your ship log.
When you go to hand them in, the station will pull the data from your ship for confirmed kills.

If your ship is destroyed then so is the data and anything you were carrying with it.

It works the opposite for bounties on your head. As you are the pilot, you are responsible for the actions. So if you become wanted, the signal is sent out to everyone in the system to say CMDR X is wanted. Not CMDR X's ship is wanted.
So that's why your bounty doesn't disappear when your ship is destroyed

I remember a build where you kept bounty vouchers after death, was some gamma thingy.
Since it is electronical proof uploaded to your pilot federation or local authority profile,
i totally support the vouchers staying after ship loss.

Nope, it's always been this way.

So according to responses:

It's a bug + 'be careful don't die'. These two don't go particularly well together. I really don't get the many responses I see on this forum trying to defend any criticism by saying 'it's supposed to be hard!' The bit that should be hard is winning the fight to earn the bounties. Making me travel miles to collect it isn't hard, so I'm not saying make it easy.

How about this then - if the principal is that it's stored on your ship and dies with you, make it part of the warrant scanner or a new upgrade. The KWS 'talks' to some bounty system to find out who has warrants, so why not let it also report and claim my bounties too? That way I can invest money and use up a slot for something that removes having to go to a station to get my bounty.

In gamma you kept those vouchers really.

As for persistent bounty - now thats weird, since if I destroy the wanted cmdr's ship I do recieve a voucher for the said bounty. And the bouny is still there? I mean, really?

It must have been a system authority vessel (even cops can be wanted).

The last two are the faction affiliations.

On a side-note killing ANY wanted ship will reduce your rep with that faction but at present you don't get any positive rep with the faction that issued the bounty either so avoid killing ships of any factions you want to get friendly with.

The thing is, when you kept your vouchers, people just went to conflict zones in the free sidewinder and fought till they blew up, then got another free sidewinder plus loads of bounty money and went again.

Risk free combat in other words, since your character can't die in the game there has to be a penalty, in order to create a self preservation instinct.

Mission Timers and bounties couple of questions.

Hi there, are mission timers real time or logged in time?

Also if I get the warrant scanner does that just pay me immediately or does it let me know if someone has a bounty outstanding on them?

Thank you

Have a rep, commander. Great post. The excitement for bounty hunting is just not there. It's pray for high value target and spray em down. Or endless Supercruise looking for that one USS.

Like mentioned: ship blows up = voucher data goes missing as its stored in your ships computer. You upload it as you come to a station from your ship and get paid. The stations doesnt know you have taken out a bad guy somewhere. Until we get super internet with upload/download in the ships i dont see it working any other way. Our money is another thing. Thats in the bank network and thus always stays.

I dont get it though. I still have my Empire vouchers since... Gamma something and i bounty hunt everyday. I pick my targets though. I dont just attack pilots above my skill or ship level. I stay vigilant when im out flying always checking my radar and keep my distance from possible hostiles. I keep my distance and scan ships from a far so im sure i wont suddenly get my teeth kicked in. And if im attacked by a stronger ship/pilot - i run!

Just, why not ??
Just because it's logic, you die, your ship explod, you loose your data and had no proufs you have kill any wanted ship :D

Missions are real time. They count down even if you quit the game; it seems everything in this game is completely server-side.

However, I had two missions so far time out before completing them, and in both cases I didn't get fined. Instead, the mission got updated with a message that says something like: "I was counting on you for this, but you disappointed me. However, I will give you one more chance." The mission timer got updated, this time with way more time that before (initially it was like 2 hours, and then when I'm given a second chance the timer was more like 10 hours.)

Not sure though if this happens with all missions. In my case these were cargo hauling missions.

I don't know the answer to your second question though (I'm also still new to this game.)
