The Bounty Hunting & Bounties tips, and general discussion thread

During a skirmish at an extraction side I accidently hit a security force guy and got a 200 credit bounty for the Federals and was wanted.

I attempted to pay it by flying to a federally controlled station (as I had done in the past in my sidewinder without problems) but was blasted out of the sky in my Viper that I just bought.

How am I supposed to pay off bounties if they kill me when I go to pay them?

You need to pay them at a station NOT owned by the faction you are wanted by. Utilize your system map and click on the stations on that map. If it says "Wanted", don't go to that one. Find one that doesn't say it, dock there and pay your fine under contacts in station services. Once paid, you can then utilize that other factions stations and there will be no bounty reward for your head.

Best Bounty Hunter Systems???

Which systems have you guys found to be the best for bounty hunters? I'm looking for a system preferably with a Nav Beacon and a station with a short jump. I found a really active Nav Beacon in GD 215 but the only station in the system is over 300,000Ls away. It's a painful commute. My search continues.

now..before you ask where you can find them.
Basicly EVERY gas giant WITH rings has em. Dahan 3 in the DAHAN system. Lp-132 98(or so) has em. Beta-1 Tucanae has some. i could go on for a long time.
There is something special about the anarchy systems though. You need a Kill warant scanner due to the fact that there is no law enforcement in such systems and everybody is clean. Scan them, look at the target details while in the contact list.

How do you maximize profit for bounty hunting? I killed 1 guy for 1400cr and used up all my dumber missles which cost 6000cr to refill. What are the most efficient weapons to use? I'm also interested in where the best bounty spots are? for instance are the resource extraction sites more lucrative then Nav Beacons usually?

I use beam lasers on a gimble, no cost for ammo, fights just take a little bit longer. Having a lot of success at extraction site now. About to cash in 60k in bounties.

Then how does the KW scanner work?

Your ship database is updated every time you dock. Also, Bluetooth.

Right now I have 2x 160 000cr bounty vouchers sitting in my transactions tab, they've been there for a week. I also failed to explode even once since that damn police viper rammed me in Gamma 1.0, despite taking on fat bounty targets in my Cobra, doing warzones and getting shot at by other Commanders.

The trick is to actually get a solid combat ship. And learn to fly it. If you're exploding while bounty hunting, you're doing it wrong. It should be the other way around.

I collided with a wanted ship yesterday.

The ship exploded and I exploded. I was then pleasantly surprised to be able to collect the ~40k bounty that had been on the guy's head immediately on re-surfacing at the station.

Just to add to the confusion :)

One reason bountys are lost at death is to stop a default sidewinder going into conflict zones znd farming credits (Ok - they got to be good).

Go out into conflict zones and kill stuff 'till you die, racking up bountys.

Get a new free ship & repeat.

Credits for no risk.

But that is so easily solved - the game can count how many times you have blown up your free sidewinder in direct succession. If you have done it, say 5 times in a row, and your credit balance has gone up each time, then each subsequent sidewinder is not longer free, but gets progressively more expensive.

If your credit balance has not been going up on each death, the sidewinder remains free.

I had this exact same issue, I had grouped both my K-Warrant Scanner and Cargo Scanner onto the same trigger to scan with both at the same time. This was causing a conflict that I had no idea about. I, too, was being notified of bounties that I wasn't receiving. However, by moving the cargo scanner to another trigger and leaving a gap between scans with K-Warrant and Cargo I now get every bounty. I don't know if you have a similar set up, but if you do give this a try.

Hello Commanders!

Hey, hey, hey, let's keep things civil, please, or you'll get less interaction from me, for a start, and more interaction from moderators.

Having bounty claim vouchers be removed on death was a design decision to introduce some additional risk/reward management. Put simply, the more bounty claims your ship is carrying, the greater risk you take by not seeking to claim them.

We've got faith in this concept, so it's staying for the time being, though I accept it might not be to everyone's taste.

Please don't change it, the system is very good the way it is. People not turning in their vouchers should run the risk to lose them when killed, similarly to loosing cargo when being killed.

I assume you just made a very wild speculation, here. But I'm game. If your ship database is updated, why do you need to scan ships with a dedicated scanner then? Once your ship database updated, the ID and infos provided by the normal scanner should be more than enough to give you those infos.

Furthermore, the KW scanner returns a status that is foreign to the the current system. The regular scanner handles the in-system status. Without having to dock prior to that.

Honnestly, I don't mind that much losing my vouchers if I'm destroyed at some point. But please, don't try to give any rational explanation for that feature anymore, that's just *not* rational at all. If you murder someone (thus preventing him/her to report the crime in a station) you still get a bounty on your head. In the void of space. That killcam thingy, and as a matter of fact any other explanation desperatly trying to justify that situation is bound to be flawed.

What I say is, I accept the game mechanics, but I'm a bit baffled everytime I read an attempt at making it legit. Not the end of the world, though.

This is happening to me as well, mostly when I use the kill warrant scanner. I estimate I have now missed out on over 300k in the last few days. The only way bounties are working for me is if I kill an wanted ship in front of a fed security ship. I have filed a ticket with no response yet. Hoping for a fix soon as this really is killing my income and fun right now.

Kill/Bounty Hunter Mission, what to do?

Hello, i wanted to try some kill Missions now (These one with over 100k worth each) where i Need to find and kill someone. The only thing i could figured out myself so far is that there are 3 possible System and it looks like there is a nav Signal (not sure if its from the Mission or something else).
So i jumped now to the 3 Systems scant a few things while flying to the nav Point and looked a bit around after i reached it. But nada nothing only a few friendly shieps here and there and a very few wanted noobis but not the one i should search for.
So to be honest i have no idea what to do or where to find my target, i have wasted an hour know just with trying to find my target. Why cant These Kill Mission not be so Player friendly like in every other game or mmo, take this -> go there -> Kill that -> come back -> get a fat reward, hurrai.
Its realy frustrating and no fun after all, no matter what you do in this game it feels like hard work. -_-

Okay here's what you need to do:

- Go to one of the systems mentioned in the mission
- Search for and enter "unidentified signal source" (the easiest way to do this is to drop to lowest speed in supercruise and just wait for one to appear)
- Within the first few of these you should encounter an NPC ship who will tell you which system your target is in via comm message
- Go to that system and search for USS in the same way
- Kill your target
- ???
- Profit!

- Cry!

As it was for me first time i take ona them, and probs for many new players XD

Well i tried one Mission a while and did what you sayd but i couldnt finish is, the com info just didnt apeared, i tried 5 or 6 USS in one Region before giving it up. I realy have better things to do then waiting for a stupid com Chat that god knows when and where apears.

I have that exact same setup - maybe that's the issue. Thanks, I'll try that.
