The Bounty Hunting & Bounties tips, and general discussion thread

Hmm I'm sure I've got a 274k screenshot at home I haven't uploaded yet, but this is my previous record:

It seemed really high cause i had read somewhere the bounties only went up to 250.000 cr, it made wonder if there are some truly big fish/ bad dude NPC's to be found out there in the black.

I had a 299, 000 one but that was a mission target. Got another 155, 000 for the mission. Almost account for me being ganked by a wing of four cmdr twenty mins previous.

An assassination target (Elite Anaconda with wingmen) two days ago was around 358k bounties (after KWS, multiple faction bounties) plus the ~190k for the mission which summed up to ~550k in total.

What is this thread and why am I here?

I certainly did not and would never subscribe to a 243 page thread.

Am I now expected to read every post to find my answer, or indeed find the post I made that got me here?

I am supportive of amalgamating common threads but this is, quite frankly, ridiculous.

Get a grip.

If I have a new question I'll post a new thread.

So are all suggestions going to be moved into this ridiculous mega thread now?

I know, it's a pain!

I posted a link about a specific issue to one of the staff and in that I said that I had serious concerns as did other people. Before he read his mail someone had merged the thread into this one (which made no sense at all) and so I got a reply saying "What are you concerned about?" and then couldn't find the original thread!

Didnt someone take down Itchynipples recently for a ~50mill reward? Ive seen pilots with 5-10mill fairly often. It doesnt seem to hard to get a reasonable sized reward, I built up to 100k in a half hour last night. I admire those with the real high bounties though, that takes dedication.

They've made a massive difference to bounties. I've made nearly 7 million in about 8 hours whilst giving bounty hunting a blast and now at 520 kills for 7.7M Cr from 190 kills at 900K (Still competent despite getting numerous well ranked Pythons, Drop ships and Anacondas in that lot!)

Wide range in bounties

I recently started with ED and really enjoy it. Last night I was loitering a nav beacon and had several opportunities to collect bounties flying the Sidewinder. I fought some higher class ships with expert pilots (AI pilots in Solo) and was surprised that I only collected 160 credits for my effort after taking some damage in pretty long dogfights. There were some other ships attacking the target off and on as well. Is a bounty rewarded proportionally by target hits or are some targets just hardly worth effort?

On the other hand I fought some ships which were fairly easy to kill and collected 20,000 credits or more. Just trying to get a grasp on which targets deliver the bang for the buck. I did search for this info but had little luck answering these questions.

Thanks, Ron

edit: Forgot to mention - I don't think I received the total credits indicated following the kill.

Bounties already accrued by NPCs before they spawn are higher than those gained afterwards. It sounds like your 160 cr ship had only just clipped someone with stray fire, and not killed anyone.

You can check bounties on the contacts panel of your HUD before you engage.

How are you finding the minor factions to claim your bounties?

If you've kill warrant scanned enemies before terminating them you'll have built up a few bounties in the transactions list that are with minor factions. But if you forget where the minor faction's base is how do you claim the bounty?

Do you just leave it in the transactions list and hope one day you'll come across the correct system to claim it? Or is there some way to find out?

Hi Feldspar - thanks for taking the time to reply. In order to see the bounty (don't recall seeing it before fight) do I need a warrant scanner?

Thanks again, Ron

No, once you have identified if a target is wanted or not, on the contacts tab it will tell you how much the bounties in this jurisdiction are. If you scan it with a warrant scanner it will add bounties in other jurisdictions.

If you're going to actually spend time bounty hunting, do get the kill warrant scanner. The additional bounties do add up. And yeah, if a ship looks tough, e.g. Expert in a fighting crate, then you might want to check bounty in your left HUD screen. I typically just waste everything that's Wanted, with a warrant scan before I open up - only rarely are they small rewards.

Also, remember to only attack the ships that appear as Wanted BEFORE you use your KWS on them. Don't attack someone who isn't Wanted in the system you're in, as a general rule, lest you accrue bounties of your own. Unless of course it's Anarchic, but that's not usually where you bounty-hunt anyway.

Definitely broken. Abandoned mission and took another with much quicker and more positive result. So if you get alternate offer right off the bat better save yourselves some time and abandon .

Thanks. I think I'm in the same position -- 2nd night of hunting with no luck. In my case the mission description was corrupted after the offer, a variable indicator seems to be displayed instead of the text, leaving me unsure of what the alt mission was even if I wanted to take it.
