The Bounty Hunting & Bounties tips, and general discussion thread

Hey bros,

I don't get this bounty system. At extraction plants, I experienced two strange cases: 1.Shooting a wanted ship for just one or two times grants to receive the bounty after kill
2.Fighting a big wanted ship almost alone and dealing around 80% damage gives no bounty after kill?

What is the secret? Which combattant gains the bounty, is it probably randomized?

If you cause damage within 10 seconds of the ship exploding you get the bounty - doesnt matter if you took 99% of its health, or you come in at the last second and push it for 1 to 0%, if its in the last 10 seconds you get the bounty.

This is pretty ridicoulus, isn't it?

It works like this because there was a lot of complaining on here about kill stealing - a player would spend time bringing a ships hull down to next to nothing, and a system defence ship would come in, take the last 1% off and leave the player with nothing because it gave the bounty to the one who made the kill.

There is also a bug with not receiving Bounties, i think it applies to Annacondas - its happened to me a few times (no Police, just me doing the shooting).

Its funny that you say that - When I was Conda hunting in my viper with all multicannons (its fun lol) I ran outta ammo with the conda at 3% health - I wasnt very knowledgeable so I wasnt targeting powerplants at that time. Anyways I rammed and rammed that conda till he exploded. Did NOT get the bounty from KWS, and I did NOT get the mission completion either. This was one of my first conda assassin missions. To say I was sad and upset would be an understatement.

That's because of the 10-second-rule. You must have hit the ship with your weapons within the last 10 seconds before its death, or you are not credited the kill, but if you did hit within that window, you get the kill credit even if the ship receives the killing blow by smashing into an asteroid, being rammed, or simply being shot at by an NPC.

This information will prevent missing higher bounties for Clippers, Dropships and Condas, thank you anyways

This 10 seconds rule isn't safe though? I can remember shooting enemies from 100% until destruction (means also in last 10 seconds) and didn't get the bounty

Life's not fair. Spend 100 hours working on a deal and a new boss starts the company and takes the credit for it after a 5 minute meeting with the client.

You can't prevent it, all you can do is make note of the player's name for next time. Can't win every fight, but if somebody kill steals like that, then wait for them to then spend time working on their own anaconda, then swoop into their line of fire and get them a Wanted rating. Karma. :)

Have you tried going to an independent? any time I have had Fed bounties I high tail it to the nearest independent, hopefully an outpost when my ship was medium pad, so I could pay it off without getting blatted.

Probably an unpopular stance but I kinda like this when it comes to bounties. Bounty hunters ought to be competitive. Where I don't like it is with Combat bonds, as in combat zones we're supposed to be co-operative if on the same faction. There ought to be another combat bond for kill assists so the guys packing beam lasers don't most of the credits and most of the community goal handins.

Bounty hunters Kill for money with the emphasis on kill, if you get a target down to 10% hull and they escape you don't get anything if someone else catches up with them and finishes them off you should not get anything because you did not kill them. In my book it is just the kill that counts or what is to stop a bunch sidewinders waiting for you to engage a high value target that they cannot take on, and as soon as the shields are down there will be a feeding frenzy as they all dive in to do 5-10% damage and you are left with maybe 30% of the bounty. No the bounty is for the kill and that is as it should be.

Bounty Collecting

Hey everyone, me again! I'm basically just looking for experienced players to check my build again... Sorry ha.

I've posted an early trading build and an early exploring build, now for combat. I have a Viper build here which is about half a mil. I don't really want to spend any more than half a mil, so can anyone suggest any improvements without bumping the cost up too much? Viper

Thanks!

Reduce the FSD - you aren't going too far - and blow the cash on multi cannons/ better thrusters to improve manouverabilty or firepower as you chose.

Cargo hold and fuel scoop (they really are cheap) for 'finding' stuff and the occasional longer journey to find RES's would set you back oooooo, about 10k.

Now stop being a cheapskate and go shoot stuff; you'll make 250k plus on your first hour in a RES! :D

No, not yet since I found that to not be the logical solution. Will try it later though.

Edit:
Oh wait, yes I did. My home base is independent and I couldn't pay it there either (while dormant).

300 CR Bounty Ridiculous!

Lately I have been bounty hunting at resource extraction sites. It is a great way to make space cash but there is one thing that really bugs me....

If you accidentally shoot a security vessel, or shoot a hostile before they show up as wanted (even if they are shooting at you), you become wanted. This sends all the nearby security vessels after you forcing you to either flee and pay your bounty, or destroy a bunch of security ships thus making your bounty much higher!

My thought is there should be a minimum bounty (say 1000-2000) you must have against you before you show up as wanted....

It is a little silly that you can get attacked for a 300 CR bounty......

Would like to hear feedback!
