The Bounty Hunting & Bounties tips, and general discussion thread

Lately I have been bounty hunting at resource extraction sites. It is a great way to make space cash but there is one thing that really bugs me....

If you accidentally shoot a security vessel, or shoot a hostile before they show up as wanted (even if they are shooting at you), you become wanted. This sends all the nearby security vessels after you forcing you to either flee and pay your bounty, or destroy a bunch of security ships thus making your bounty much higher!

My thought is there should be a minimum bounty (say 1000-2000) you must have against you before you show up as wanted....

It is a little silly that you can get attacked for a 300 CR bounty......

Easy solution: Dont shoot at security vessels.

If you do get a bounty, just fly to the nearest outpost allied with the faction you got the bounty from and pay it off (or forget you have one and dock with a station and hope you survive the local sec ships shooting at you like I did last night :))

Yeah, I quite like having to be a little cautious and exercise fire control but accidents do happen and having an instant death penalty is a bit silly. Especially when you have been fighting alongside the security forces and helping poor innocent miners all day long..

Don't get me wrong, I love the wild west and brutal attitude but it has to make sense too. Fines and warnings should be the first step on a gradient towards instant kill warrant

I feel your pain, it's indeed annoying and needs to be changed. But thankfully we have people providing us with amazing solutions.

Collecting Bounty

Hello

I've been flying around Anali for a while and I've been interdicted twice. Both times I was able to kill the enemy ship and I was awarded credits for both kills. I've visited both stations in the system and neither of them have any bounty vouchers available to collect. How do I collect the rewards?

Thanks

Oh, you...

Sorry, couldn't resist ;)

I'll try to be more helpful:
First, that security ships lose target on a criminal with a much higher bounty and go after you is not intended. However it takes much work to change this behaviour, so no ETA.

Your point is reasonable, however I see no way to make this work. You get a small bounty for attacking a ship and a much higher when you destroy it. If the small bounty would not lead to a wanted status, you could get no help from security ships when getting interdicted by a pirate. Your wingmates would not be allowed to help you either, because the criminal would get the wanted status only after he destroyed you. That would be much worse than the current mechanic.

So I think we should focus on two things:
1. Don't attack clear/unscanned ships.
2. Further tweaks to FF mechanic.

I personally think we don't need a FF mechanic at all - everyone handling a weapon with multiple MW power of destruction should do this with caution. However I understand that the more casual player does not like this and I can live with it as long as it is done in a reasonable manner.

I thought they implemented something to prevent accidental bounties like 1 hit doesn't count?:S

This comes up lots. Ive only reached master but had one instance of ff. I was careless. If any ship comes into field of view you should assume worse and pause for a sec.

Its only a game but im sure some people try to get as many credits as quick as poss in res. It does feel like a mindless shoot em up at moment. The game has just been so dumbed down. There is little thought about the mechanics and positions just scan and bam.

Only trouble with this idea is how does this work if you're attacked and need to defend yourself? If the target doesn't get a bounty unless they have over 1k worth, they can attack you freely and you can't attack back. Because they have only a 400cr bounty.

The bottom line is you need to be careful. Really careful. I've not got one of these bounties for a very, very long time. It's all about practice.

Depends how powerful your weapons are, whether you went ahead and let the "accidental" target feel some sustained "accidental" fire, and whether they have active shields. There is some FF forgiveness, but it's quite limited. Unfortunately you can't message the AI to say "Whoopsie!"

Just today I had a bounty slapped on me, even though I am sure the target was shown as wanted before I opened fire. There seems to be a delay between scanning and confirming as wanted, and you being allowed to attack, and it seems to be more common when attacking the larger ships

I hope this gets sorted before the next update, as we will not be able to clear our bounties straight away.

Careful is not so easy some times. Last night I was all over an NPC Anaconda, got fired upon so boosted past. When I turned back around there was the Anaconda in front off me, fired everything I had at it then realised another Anaconda was sitting directly behind it? And guess what? The one I fired on was a passing Authority ship!!! How typical is that, just my luck!

Basically when you see the red "WANTED" thing appear, run! I've done that three or four times in 4 months. It's easier to avoid FF with LASERs only for obvious reasons, but even overheating Burst LASERs can fire off a volley once they cool a bit without fire being pressed. Be careful, remember it really is your fault, and run for the nearest station immediately.

I can't believe this topic is STILL showing up in new threads...

The current system can stay if an "apology mechanic" were added. Select an authority vessel like you would a station for docking permission. The authorites turn your bounty into a fine, if its below - say 1.000 cr. The mechanic has a limit of 3 apologies within 10 minutes so you cannot easily exploit it.

This. Especially when the AI does some really, really dumb things sometimes. I was firin' mah lazors at a criminal when a System Authority Eagle decided to fly right across my line of fire with its shields down. Eagle goes kaboom the instant my lasers hit it and I get a 10k cr bounty for murdering a System Authority Vessel.
