The Bounty Hunting & Bounties tips, and general discussion thread

PP bounty bonues and PVP hunting

Simple enough question (relatively). Player bounties when claimed, are capped at 1mil. If I'm aligned to arissa, and the bounty is an empire one, and I hand it in at one of her controlled systems (+20%) while I'm rank 5 (100%) and she's in the top 3 (30%), do I gain all those bonuses or is it still capped at 1mil?

If it's still capped then it kinda ruins the whole point. PVP hunting is barely supported as is, RES grinding gets all the support and glory because it's easier for FD to ducttape. Given how long/difficult the hunt for a 1mil bounty player can be, I don't think being able to boost that reward to 2.5 mil with some hard work for Arissa is unfair...

Bounty for ramming a pirate

So I was doing my daily business of bounty hunting at an RES and all was well. That is, until I was speeding towards some far away combat, a pirate ship turned up at my blind spot (top right, heading towards me), started scanning me and before I could react I rammed the poor pirate viper. It didn't end well for the poor man.

But since I didn't scan the poor thing (never got a chance) I got a bounty on my head which, thanks to your awesome "update", I can't pay off! So thanks a lot, can't show my face in that lovely system for a week without being shot at by security services!

Why did you not see this coming? Accidentaly shooting an already wanted person without having scanned him/her was already a problem. Wanted is wanted! But now I can't even pay off a bounty (which should've been a fine) that wasn't my mistake in the first place!? Awesome job.

I just... Just why and how!? I enjoy Elite: Dangerous a lot, but it hasn't got much better. I completely understand you lot want to make being a pirate more dangerous, but this is just ridiculous.

I've had exactly the same problem.

I was speeding towards a bunch of fighting ships and all of a sudden a pirate ship started scanning me (approached me from the top right so I didn't see it). The Viper had no shields and my Clipper was going at 390 m/s. Needless to say, before I could react he slammed into me and exploded.

Now I've got a bounty on me head of 5000 credits, which I can't pay off but it was not my fault! Can't move about in that system for a week. I think I'm just not going to play the game for a week with this going on. A bounty for killing an unscanned pirate? Come on...

:(

Poor little viper! Probably thought you had some gold on you....

I think the accidental thing should be looked at in depth.. Frontier does need to concentrate on fixing the game instead of bringing out things like powerplay. A lot of folk have asked to have the game fixed and working before anymore content is delivered, even though its still devoid of content. Powerplay seems to be a poor attempt at making the player base create the content... So much for solo players.

You're not the only one this has happened to Ghosty (or a close variant of it). I was equally irritated and made the mistake of writing about it at length.
I also wrote that I was disturned to only find Harmless ships wherever I went. (still mostly true).
Those two topics are being reported by others now ... go figure.

In Systems with higher Security this is as good as a ban. This Sucks! The scan-happy-system-security can't wait i show up.
I know how you feel I have to scrap a ship in order to get rid of a fine so I can still play not being able to pay off the fine is extremely stupid.

It sucks hard. And always happens when your a doing a mission to kill a target from the bulletin board. It's a mission!!!Why should we get a bounty for a week if it's a mission? This really equals to a system ban for a week!! I only take target missions to systems I don't usually go. But again this should not be. It'a freaking mission. If we want a rank progression we also get a bounty for a week. Major setback in the game play.

This is almost exactly what happened to me just now. A pirate in an Imperial Courier was speeding toward me, and before I could get out of the way, we rammed one another. I misjudged his distance from me due to his small size, and voila. He was, however, a pirate scanning me for goods.

Honestly -- it shouldn't be possible to accrue a bounty by killing a pirate, irrespective of whether he's been scanned.

As bender from futurama would say "Thank you and goodnight". No need to get angry.

On topic and without attacking people: I think the code may need tweaking so that enemy ships do not always try to fly right in front of you to scan you. I mean seriously real players would not fly into your main weapon line of fire and line of sight, they'd sneak up on you in a blindspot and try to scan you before you could turn around. This may make the NPC's very very dangerous though if an Anaconda sneaks up to your engine trail and starts scanning...

You can blame everyone who was going around ramming clean targets for the lulz for this change i'm afraid.

It is a bit silly though that NPCs come under the aegis of this change though. I think this is one area they could have the game differentiate.

Still, its just 7 days... and plenty of systems out there. Just go play in another system for a week. Its not a show stopper.

SJA has made improvements to the avoidance code of NPCs, i'm sure she will keep making improvements as time goes on.

LameoveR:
I am trying to deal with it by making this post about it. Many others have aswell.
When people made billions by abusing the game mechanics the developers were pretty quick (relatively) to respond by taking those billions away. Same with any other so called exploit. But when the game mechanics get in our way we're supposed to "deal with it"?

I suggest you stop trying to troll.

Agony_Aunt: the problem isn't finding a new system, the problem is that it has to be done in the first place due to faulty mechanics. If this happens in other systems aswell I'll just have to keep jumping from system to system. It's very annoying.

You know what we really need? A utility mount module that hides us from being detected by name (that hides our licence plate^^). Only for NPCs. Toggled via funtions panel or hotkey.
It would hide us but also we wouldn't get the bounties on our targets heads. Would toggle when opening cargo bay, etc...

Dear moderators, why do you remove Romes' post (probably for that nasty name he called LameoveR), but not the troll himself? It's quite biased.

Mods generally don't comment on their actions, but directly insulting someone is against forum rules. They probably got a warning for it, and if they continue, it can lead to suspension.

Also, i should advise you, that labelling someone a troll, can also be considered to be insulting... you might want to tone down on that since you have done it several times already.

I don't think what they posted can be considered trolling... not productive or helpful... but not trolling.

This evening I got a bounty of 11k on my head in an independent system for killing the wingman of my assassination target.
He just came between my vulture and the target python.
But I also received a 12k bounty reward for the wingman in the same jurisdiction - which seems odd. I don't use KWS.

Presumably, if I survive the 1 week cool down, I can go back and use my reward to pay off the resulting legacy fine?

And that post probably got removed for discussing moderator action openly on the thread... oh dear.
