The Bounty Hunting & Bounties tips, and general discussion thread

Bounty hunting issue?

Ok, So i'm in a system, doesn't really matter which, but I'm in a system and the target has a bounty on him, so I KWS scan him and get the scaned. I actually scan him twice just to be sure

So I take him out, and I got a bounty/wanted for like 5 days for murder...of a criminal...who was wanted.

WTH??

He was clean in this system, but wanted elsewhere in the alliance. I don't get it, I thought the purpose of the KWS scanner was so you can legally open fire on targets who are clean in the system your in but wanted elsewhere.

What gives?

And that post probably got removed for discussing moderator action openly on the thread... oh dear.

What other post got removed?

Anyway, the problem of unjust bounties is still here and it's still ing me off. It'd be better if shooting at a pirate wouldn't get you a bounty at all, scanned or not scanned.

It doesn't encourage rondomly shooting ships since shooting innocent once will still get out a bounty on your head.

And btw "How dare you get in the way of that hound?"
How dare that pirate viper come between me and my prey in a way I couldn't even see him.

So I was doing my daily business of bounty hunting at an RES and all was well. That is, until I was speeding towards some far away combat, a pirate ship turned up at my blind spot (top right, heading towards me), started scanning me and before I could react I rammed the poor pirate viper. It didn't end well for the poor man.

But since I didn't scan the poor thing (never got a chance) I got a bounty on my head which, thanks to your awesome "update", I can't pay off! So thanks a lot, can't show my face in that lovely system for a week without being shot at by security services!

Why did you not see this coming? Accidentaly shooting an already wanted person without having scanned him/her was already a problem. Wanted is wanted! But now I can't even pay off a bounty (which should've been a fine) that wasn't my mistake in the first place!? Awesome job.

I just... Just why and how!? I enjoy Elite: Dangerous a lot, but it hasn't got much better. I completely understand you lot want to make being a pirate more dangerous, but this is just ridiculous.

Yeah I've encountered this problem too. My Solution?

I bought a bone-stock Eagle as my Bounty-Wiper hull. I just leave it parked until I need to clear Wanted Status, then I hop in, cruise outside the station and park. Then I wait for the Police to come kill me. The under 3000cr rebuy is cheaper than paying off a Bounty anyway.

New bounty system is a pain

BOUNTY 5000CR caused by a suicidal <snip> NPC which did fly into my fireline? Flag WANTED? Cannot pay it off and wipe out the WANTED flag?

GREAT!!!!!! NOT!!!!!!!!

THIS means i cannot play for 4 1/2 days, because the second the security scans me i get attacked by feds.

is it really SO HARD to diff between ship hit while targetted and ship hit while not? or at least checking if it was repeatly hit?

this should been fixed since months but instead you rly made it worse. now we cannot pay them off and continue our job. now we got to wait almost a week to clear the bounty because if i would continue bountyhunting at that RES ut gets worse and worse.

fix that!

Wanted for being rammed.

This has to be a bug. Flying around a HIRES when I engage a wanted ship in a wing of 2. I open fire on one NPC ship, when the second ship in the wing rams me. Seconds later it explodes and now I’m wanted for 6000cr and 5 days before I can do anything about it. I don’t have a problem being wanted, for I already am in another system. Also I occasionally misfire on a ship, but not this ship. He wasn’t even close to being within my firing line. Also there was no flash on my screen indicating a firing on un-scanned/unwanted ship, just crash and a few seconds later BOOM he’s dead and 6000cr bounty for me. What gives?

Just go to a different system? Its only the subfaction that wants you dead...
In any case did you destroy the ship or do significant hull damage, I thought accidental friendly fire had been turned into a fine only and been made more lenient since 1.3. Not tested myself but I found it easy to avoid bounties in 1.2 just by stopping firing whenever another ship entered the screen until I was sure I was safe to carry on. Never know what those crazy allies are gonna do, its almost as if they are flying like players.

Also you may want to remove a certain word in the first sentence that could cause offence. Im not sure on the official forum rules regarding this but It's not really worth the trouble.

well
(1) try to avoid hitting a suicidal NPC which pass in 90° in 10m of ur front.
(2) i didnt attack anything that was NOT scanned as WANTED
(3) i didnt attack BEFORE scanning was completed and showed WANTED

whart u think im not using turrets? to avoid such a mess.
i dont give a damn if he blows up if he flys into my fireline with 1% or whatever. the point is: I DIDNT ATTACK THAT DAMN NPC!!!! thats why it should be ALWAYS a fine and NEVER a bounty.

this whole bounty system is since 1.3 a complete big ...

offending a NPC?!?!? serious?! call the us troops and the UN.... the "word" is absolutely correct because what the NPC did was completely stupid. to cross a already FIRING ship in front of it barels. especially if its almost destroyed. ;)

anyhow, that has to be fixed. the devs have enough ways to differ between attack and accident. if a soldier jumps suddenly in front of a firing mg in a combat situation, noone would send the mg gunner to the jail. here we get the bounty stuff for something we didnt do. i already did hate to pay a single dime for a suicidal NPC but since 1.3 it did get even worse. NOW i got to pay AND cannot play almost a week?! pffffff

I have in a system over 2 million Cr . Bounty. I have no problems . I can without any problems docking in the local stations and attempts by the NPC to draw me out of the Super Cruise are mostly unsuccessful.

Also, I must say that I have no problems with it cease fire when a non-target crosses my line of fire .
Because of such reasons , I got a long time no more bounty .

Sorry i use Google-Translator.

I am in a Power Play Hostile control system destroying fed ships with a big bounty on my head. So it's two fold, I am labeled as Hostile AND Wanted. I am Allied with the Federation so I am allowed to dock and have no problem doing so. It's rather easy to avoid scans.

I must have met his brother because I had an NPC Security ship fly in front of me as I was unleashing my 4 small cannon and two Medium Beams. I didn't kill him and I didn't get a 5,000 Cr bounty either but I was wanted and it wasn't for 7 days either. It was time for me to move on anyway. So what did you do to earn 5,000 Cr and 7 days, did you kill him?
.
Just move on to the next system for a couple of days and let things cool down in BD-05.

not if u usually are in an area where the feds are same as close as the enemy. i get scanned almost after every fight by them. and the risk is there.
this whole 1.3-bounty-change-ed-up-situation is a complete mess. because its unbalanced. if they increase the punishment (what they really did with 1.3) they have to differ better between accident and attack. just a hit is NOT always an attack. second, they have to real increase ANY kill missions outcome for allied, because they cause 7d bountys and trouble.

they cannot change the system on one side and keep the other one untouched... its unbalanced now. workarounds may help. but a downgrade or differ between accident and attack is neccessary.

It's not a complete mess. Maybe it can use a tweak, I don't know because I'm not having a problem. I think if it was a complete mess, everyone would have an issue, not just people here and there that can't seem to avoid being scanned. Perhaps you are clinging on to one system too much. Bounties are no longer based on the Major faction so you could go to the next system over and not be wanted there.

dont know. as said he wasnt my target. i suddenly saw only WANTED and the first i did was go to hyperspace and heading next station. i didnt want to spent much more time waiting for the dozen feds in 1km distance to attack me. imagine THAT bounty if i had to fight my way out. ;) the only one who was destroyed was the one i did target. that was WAS wanted and red. maybe its a new bug of their damn new bountysystem? so if im wanted and my target which was already in combat with me while i became wanted myself counts suddenly as illegal kill? although it was wanted?!

dont know. rly. ;)

Just move on to the next system for a couple of days and let things cool down in BD-05.
RES are not everywhere. also its a system im preparing... so im rly about the new bounty system... rly. :/

Currently got Kill Warrants in 3 Systems from doing Assassination missions, been flying around one of those Systems for 2 days while Wanted, just turn "Report Crimes Against Me" Off in Functions and you can still chase pirates down while avoiding the local Feds. I've eaned between 200-600K for each of the kill targets (Mission pay and Bounty), so I'm not going to moan about 6K in fines, even if I have to wait a week to pay them off.

If it bothers you move on to another System and you're golden, or you could always wear it as a badge of pride...either way it just makes the gameplay more epic.

Move to another Federal system with a RES, save the bounties or if you are lucky hand them in in the original system, just at a station that isn't Federal
