The Bounty Hunting & Bounties tips, and general discussion thread

yeah . more epic fail.
fact is i did get a bounty for doin nothing wrong.
fact is im now wanted for doin nothing wrong, wasting creditz but even more i will have a creditz loss in millions this week and cannot continue preparing this system i already did invest 1 million.
fact is hte new bounty system is unbalanced. you may not notice that if you r pirate or trader or miner. but as bounty hunter its a mess. because u cannot control the amount of stupidity of NPCs the only ppl who can are the DEVs who did produce this new-bounty-system-fail.

as said: if they AT LEAST would detect better if a HIT was acutally an attack OR accident. but they dont do that. every single hit MUST be intentional and a crime. even if the "victim" did intentionally jump into the fireline and the gunner had no chance to stop in time. SURE. m)

Trigger control, dude, trigger control

And step way from the computer and go get some fresh air.

I actually do practise 'trigger control' and it's finger off when it looks like someone else other than my target could get hit by either flying between me and the target or being directly behind the target but the time I unloaded on the Security he literally flew past at 90 degrees to me about 10 feet in front of me - and I couldn't get my finger off the trigger fast enough.
.
I didn't have the same amount of time and effort invested in the system as the OP does so for me it was not a problem to just pack up my tent and move to another system until it all cooled down.

You insist you did nothing wrong, but in your previous post, you admit you don't know exactly what happened or why.

Somewhere, somehow, you killed a clean ship, which generally speaking is not something that happens by mistake with one stray shot.

With regards your wanted status, be aware that the bounty is from a minor faction in that system. Some stations in that system will probably not see you as wanted, you can check in the system map. And while flying in that system, turn off 'Report Crimes Against Me' so that if you are interdicted you don't get the police turning up to help, then find you are wanted and kill you.

Unfortunately he doesn't seem to care. He feels cheated and can't be convinced otherwise.

Not logged on for ages and have just done all the updates .... quite excited to be fair.
Picked up a pirate mission and flew to the system (Diso) and saw a pirate (in a wing of 2) ... scanned him then opened fire, destroyed him and his wingman attacked me in a cargo ship ... I was grinning from ear to ear, he turned red and hit me so I fired back and was immediately fined for assault. I now have a 200CR bounty that I cannot shift for 7 days. Who is responsible for suggesting that at FD?
Even better was my mission pirate kill is still at 0 *facepalm* Will this game *EVER* work properly?
This game gets worse with each patch released not better.
Seriously annoyed.

Pretty sure ramming wanted NPCS and getting wanted is a bug.

And also pretty sure you can deal with being wanted in one system.

Its not the end of the world.

Honestly I don't quite get all the outrage. Yeah, criminalising friendly fire sucks BUT a) friendly fire should be a crime, b) trigger discipline rules and c) how does one recognise the friendly fire was accidental? I think Frontier have done just about the best they could to implement the damage threshold to an un-targeted ship.
_
Friendly fire aside, I've hundreds of thousands of credits on my head within a 30LY radius off my current 'base of operations' (my 'home' being elsewhere, far, far away) and happily continue to raid ships and smuggle stuff in and out of those systems. What's rather disappointing is the fact that I feel very little added suspense / danger. I am yet to come across a situation where a snappy decision to slaughter the cops or run needs to be made. Here's to hoping for a truly cut-throat galaxy down the line.

There's been times where it's been exciting for me as I try to kill a bigger ship or wing that I've interdicted before the cops show up and scan me. 4 cops joining in while you are trying to finish up is a big deal if they get the scan in first. I've actually had to retreat once or twice or be destroyed.

I'm actually having fun with the system... first time since I started that I'm actually keeping a bounty. Really increased the immersion factor.

The fact that my bounty was a conscious choice may have something to do with that.

Come... join us... don't be afraid...

Sorry, I don't understand how you can be so lazy and inattentive to accidentally kill another ship with your weapons. The only time this has happened to me was a plasma accelerator shot missing and hitting a stationary damaged Sidewinder... which I deserved.

Assault is only a 400 credit, 15 minute bounty before it becomes a fine, so don't commit murder and you'll be OK.

I read all these threads and I laugh to myself as well. It is only in that one system. You said you are trying to help your faction with this system. I am sure your faction has other systems with 50ly that need help also. the bounty is only in your current system.

Turn off report crimes against me and keep going. I have a bunch of bounties on me in about a dozen systems. It still doesn't stop me from docking in space stations in that area. There are res sites in many stations, conflict zones etc...

A bounty is not the end of the game for a week. Just ignore it and move on or fly safer. I have hit things with friendly fire and have gotten fines. If they have shields you get a fine. if you do damage to the hull you get a bounty. When I am in combat I always make sure I fly way over my target so I usually don't have a problem hitting someone. And if they are stupid enough to get shot by me than so be it.

It is easy to avoid the cops. if they start a scan boost away. If you are 2k away the scan won't complete. It is simple to avoid scans going into stations. I am a smuggler by trade and have no problems ever avoiding them going into a station.

Yep, this is the kind of thing I'm looking for. Weekend's coming though, the cops better sugar their doughnuts properly!

Wow. Raging about it simply isn't going to help.

Its unbalanced [in your opinion]... but in my opinion its a lot better than it was before; you only had to scratch a police ship and they'd all turn on you. Not it does take a solid hit, which apparently you scored and were awarded a Wanted status. Sarah's AI is doing better at keeping out of your firing line (better, still not great).

The onus is firmly on YOU, the pilot. How is the game supposed to tell if you're pulling the trigger by accident? A pulled trigger is a pulled trigger (yes he got in the way - but pay more attention and you'll see them coming!). The game simply totals up the damage - if its over the threshold, you're Wanted.

Get out of the system and enjoy a change of scenery :p

I really enjoy the new bounty system. Did an assassination mission in one and racked up a similar bounty and I thought it was pretty cool to not be able to immediately wipe it, having to keep an eye on where I'm going. Just go to another system, man. Chill out. It's not the end of the world.
