The Bounty Hunting & Bounties tips, and general discussion thread

I need help with missions and bounties please. (Where to find Transport ships, Black Boxes)

Hello fellow pilots,

I am having some trouble and need answers to three questions please.

1. I have a mission to kill traders in certain systems. I am used to going to the 'Nav Beacon' to find pirates to kill...but no traders. Is there a place I should be looking?

2. I am supposed to go find 'Black Boxes' for an illegal cargo mission. Where to find these?

3. Under transactions I have a 15K credit bounty to collect for the Federation. I can't select this bounty though to see how to collect. What is the procedure for this?

Thanks for any replies!

1) Try the unknown signal sources. They are random encounters. They spawn all kinds of encounters and random items.

2) Same as above.

3) You will have to go to station that belongs to the proper faction to collect you bounties.

Hi, your going to have to just kill haulers, type 6's etc these ships generally are not wanted so your going to be getting yourself wanted unless you do this in an anarchy zone.

Black boxes no idea sorry, generally any mission that involves you looking for thins, just stop at unidentified signal sources.

To collect bounties you have to dock at the same place the bounties are for, so if its just plain old federation, any federeation dock, if its the golden dragons associates you have to find where it was you were when you got the bounties. in the dock under contacts there will be a security contact to collect bounties.

Need some help, not receiving bounties

I have been hanging out in the pootriti system in my eagle running missions from tuan outpost for the social pootriti something or other.

Anyway when flying back through the system I stop at quite a few USS and encounter 1 or 2 wanted ships mostly. Destroying them gives me a blue alert in the top right of the screen saying how much bounty has been awarded. However they arent showing up in the station contacts menu to claim the bounty. I collected a few earlier (was possibly in a different system when I killed them and landed to collect.) so why not now? Or is the money being credited automatically to my account and I havent noticed?

ps I also noticed that I have an ever increasing fine on my own head (in my left ship menu, its up to around 18k at the moment) but dont know where I can pay it or why it is increasing. I havent seen any alerts like you get when caught smuggling illegal goods or crashing into docking bays :/

You have to check your transactions tab on the right panel.
There is a list of bounties you've earned as well as an information WHO will pay you for them. (a.k.a Federation, Empire or Alliance) You have to visit their station to be able to cash the bounties in.

Meaning, if that ship was wanted by Federation, you have to find a Fed station or outpost and there will be the option under contacts. :)

Do you mean left panel? Under transactions I have a title "Claims" and underneath "21 162 CR bounty in federation"

So I just go to a fed system to cash it in? If so thanks I thought this was a big fine/bounty on MY head.

eh, sorry, yes, left panel.
And yes, that's what it means. If You had a bounty on your head, it would be in your statistics in the right panel.

Also be aware, in a "Federation" system, there may be stations run by small, independent factions. You need to dock at a station in the jurisdiction of a Federation aligned faction.

You can see all the aligned/indepentent faction info in the System Map - just mouse-over each station.

Pretty sure it's also shown in the main Station Services screen, top left. You've obviously docked by then, though, so... probably a bit late! :)

[HELP] Killed bounties, but says I have 0 to cash in on local station

Hello everyone,

I killed some bounties in a system above LHS 3447, if I remember correctly. Went to the NAV beacon, blapped a few baddies, and went to the nearby station to dock up and cash in. However, when I went to the "Contacts" tab it said I had zero bounties to cash in. The next station next to it reported the exact same thing.

Am I doing anything wrong? Am I supposed to be in a different system to cash them in? I'd report the system name but I'm not at my home PC right now to give an accurate breakdown to the system name, apologies. If anyone can help me out on this I'd really appreciate it, as one of them was a 10K hit and that's enough to buy new weapons on my Sidewinder.

Go to your transactions tab in left panel. It will tell you if you have bounties and who will pay them. You can get bounties for Federation, Empire or Alliance, but you have to be in a station affiliated with whoever will pay the bounty to claim it.
In other words, you may have got a bounty claim with the Empire, but are in Federation space and so can't claim it until you land in an Empire controlled station. This is usually the cause.

When you scan a ship and it's showing as WANTED, it's only for the current jurisdiction you're in. When you destroy a ship that is wanted, you can only cash the reward at a station of that jurisdiction. Check on the System Map - it will tell you which jurisdiction the station belongs to. You may be in Federal jurisdiction sector, but the station you landed on may be controlled by an Independent or Empire faction - you won't be able to cash rewards for ships wanted in Federal jurisdiction there.

You can check which jurisdictions you have rewards to cash up in the left panel on the Contracts tab, it will divide your bounty rewards between Federal, Alliance, Empire and specific Independent jurisditctions.

By default your normal ship scanner will only tell you if the ship is wanted in the current jurisdiction. Before you attack a wanted ship you can also scan it will Kill Warrant Scanner - this will reveal all the bounties for that ship in any other jurisdictions too.

Hope this helps :)

It could have been a different jurisdiction starport than the system jurisdiction. The latter is always the same as the most influential faction, but a minor faction of a different jurisdiction can control other starports in the system.

So, the whole system jur may be Federal, but that particular station you've landed on may be a different jur, depending on the controlling faction. You can check that in detail on the System Map.
