The Bounty Hunting & Bounties tips, and general discussion thread

Show bounties on Galaxy map

While we await being able to search for factions from within the game (assuming FD consider that to be a worthwhile addition), perhaps in the short term they could add a `Show Bounties` option to the galaxy map, much like the `Show Mission Markers` option we have now, placing a $ sign on systems where we you have uncollected bounties. When planning routes it might just pay to have a little diversion should one of those systems be more or less on your way. I'm guessing it should not be to big a task to add.

I'd dearly love to trim the ever growing list from my ship.

They have plans in motion to help with this at some point. It will be a broker we can cash in all our bounties.

Yeah, I saw some discussion on that and agree it's a good idea to offload at a reduced price to a broker, but if we could have a toggle on the galaxy map, we could sell them directly and be able to do it far more efficiently than we can now.

Can't pay off my criminal bounty

I'm currently in Carnoeck system, because of the community goal which is get bounty payoffs for Bacon City. I was fighting in RES and hit my enemy with missile. The area effect seems like damaged a system security force so i got a 200 credits bounty on my head. went back to Bacon City to pay it but it says no bounty to pay off. Now i'm in Mitchell Ring it also says no bounty so i cannot pay it. But getting interdicted and attacked by security forces. So i'm stuck in the station with 200 credits bounty and a wanted title on my head.

And btw, the bounty is for Mikir Free faction, both Bacon city and Mitchell Ring are belong to Mikir Free.

What the hell am i supposed to do now?

ps: my local reputation is Allied. I think maybe the faction thinks "200 credits bounty is not important for an ally of us, he doesnt have to pay it." yet they keep attacking me lol.

Your bounty will only be for that system. It has a cooldown timer. Sit it out. For a 200 credit bounty it will be something like ten minutes. You can check it on your transactions tab on the left screen. Once that time has expired, jump to the system you are wanted in, go to a station and pay off the "fine" it has now turned into.

PS. The Carnoeck, Bacon City (Bounty Vouchers) CG ended a day or so ago.

Bounty Hunting Question

Hi all,

Been reading these forums for quite some time, after playing many MMOs and trawling through the forums in those communities its nice to see a community which for the most part is both understanding and pleasant to be involved in, so thanks for that. After much reading I decided to register, and after having to use a calculator to fill in the registration security Math sum (doh), to join the forum!

So to begin my forum career I've decided to ask a question which I've been meaning to ask for a while but always forgotten:

When at a NAV Beacon, and you see a WANTED chap, you can go all 5th freedom on him without having to worry about the 5 police pythons floating about, alpha'ing my Viper, this we all know :).

If however, I decide to use my Kill Warrant Scanner, and find he has a bounty in another area (obviously not rendering him a WANTED felon in this area), is he free game? Or will the local police decide I'm as bad as he is and reduce me to scrap metal? Probably an easy one for you folks but I do appreciate the responses :).

Thanks guys and hello! From me,

Noctover. Hope to see you in space.

Never tried it, but I'll assume you'll become Wanted by the Police in that system pretty quick. Local security isn't bothered by the wider picture.

If he shows as wanted in the targeting and normal scan, he's wanted where you are and he's fair game. You can blast away.
If he doesn't show as wanted but you use your kill warrant scanner, that will show you he has bounties in other systems but still does not mean he is wanted in the current system, if you attack him you will get a bounty on your head and the police will turn on you.

Bounty Hunting and "Friendly Fire"

So, in the past few days I've ground up some 60 million to start out and get my Python. However, i'm already unable to afford to die again... why? Because The turrets on my ship when gunning down enemies, sometimes clip the Federal security as i'm maneuvering to fight something, and in turn, I become wanted and quickly gunned down. So now i'm out 9 million or so in under 30 mins. Sorry, but that's bulls*** and the mechanics for that need to change. Why should I be penalized for subpar AI that decides to fly in between me and my opponent?

OP,

"Sometimes clip" will get you a fine. FEDSEC won't try and kill you for that.

Destruction of a FEDSEC ship will count as murder. You will get killed for that.

Are you sure the fault lies with your turrets or FEDSEC?

Most definitely. The place i'm farming in has alot of big ships on both FEDSEC and wanted enemies, and the last time (which made me rage-quit) i'm in the middle of dueling a Clipper and a FEDSEC Anaconda goes directly in front of me, eats a salvo of my 3 Large Burst turrets, and then gets over it and every single FEDSEC s me instantly. So yes... Thankfully Power play will give me 5 mill soon so i'll not be too afraid of trying to BH more in the mining area I go to.

As long as you're pretty well respected in the area you're farming, you can afford to clip friendlies without repercussions. But turrets in an area where the factions are unfamiliar with you is a definite nono, always go for gimballed while building rep.

When I accidentally hit the feds nowdays I get messages like "Watch your fire!" which is very cool.

I've been BH for a bit and doing Powerplay for Zachary, and it tells me i'm "Allied" with the federation, so about that... either way, this mechanic is still stupid and not justified.

Is there a way to hold down the button to let turrets auto-fire but let go and they'll stop even if they're in range, kinda like gimbals but with better firing arcs? Honestly, everyone who's died and lost money to the incompetence of the AI should be refunded plus interest for their trouble. Its like stepping out to a gun range, walking in front of people doing live-fire exercises, then trying to call the cops on the person who shot you while you purposely got in the way to practice firing on the same target and then having the person just trying to do their own thing get penalized. Seriously, this game is grindy enough as it is. I don't need more bull to hold me back.

No. It's like being out on a gun range, having someone step out in-front of you and you pulling the trigger anyway...

Improving your situational awareness or using gimballed weapons seems a much easier alternative to changing the entire game to suit how you want to play.

Yeah, funny. Maybe if there was a way to stop firing instead of just letting them go auto by pulling the trigger again or something should be in. I know, I know. I'm a visionary and dreamer of such an advanced feature. And PS, no, i'm not going to switch weapon groups just to make myself disengage firing or retract my weapons to reset. Bad game design is bad. Either way, I should've expected just some troll responses instead of actual discussion.

Asking for an easy to way to STOP firing or manually fire a turret shouldn't be such a insane request. I'm done wasting my time here.

Clipping them will get you a small bounty lasting a few minutes forcing you to hyperspace out of the system and back.

OP, it's a dumb mechanic, I agree. Apparently people on the forums like completely disproportionate consequences that do nothing to actually convey a coherent legal system that punishes criminals rather than allies that had a 0.5 second mis aim....
