Community Event / Creation The Buckyball Racing Club presents: Once Upon a Time in Leesti (Triple Eight Championship, Race 7)

Shenanigan Run submitted! Took a while to key all those timestamps in...I KNOW I can shave a good few minutes off this one. Really really enjoying this race. Feeling good about this one!

Keying all those time stamps is why I first learned how to create, and then continually refine, my Buckyball Racing spreadsheet. Now it’s just a matter of entering my times into a particular race’s sheet, then cutting and pasting the timestamps it generates. As a bonus, after the third entry, I get to see exactly how well I’m doing on average, and can compare my best entry to it and my hypothetical “perfect” run.

I’ve noticed I tend to hit a wall at slightly below the midpoint between the two. I’ve also noticed my “perfect” run is usually competitive with the top five as the end of the race nears its end, which is usually a good sign that I didn’t miss something obvious, and it’s my frequency of mistakes and errors that’s keeping me from placing better. With storms in witchspace causing a large delay in the race today, Day 7 saw just one new run in Once Upon a Time Class, but it was a good one. Cmdr Darplata94 doesn't make it to as many BRC events as he'd like, but when he does he's normally around the top of the leaderboard. So it's surprise to see him surge ahead of the other Cobras in Flaming Frontier, with an excellent run of 26m41s.

The storms might have slowed down the racing in Shenanigan Class, but they didn't stop the race marshals causing more controversy. First was a blow for Cmdr Martinjameson, when his otherwise perfectly valid 36m36s run was disqualified when analysis of the V.A.R.S. evidence showed that Martin had clearly passed through the CQC Holo-gate before the third Lavian Brandy ad. Sorry, but not even a name like Jameson will let you get away with that.

More CQC Holo-gate controversy occured during Cmdr Sulu's latest run. Sulu boosted through as the gate flipped from its Core Dynamics state, but the all seeing eye of V.A.R.S. showed that it had flipped to a state displaying Alliance propaganda, rather than the normal CQC banner. This appears to be either a cheeky counter hack by Lave Radio's IT Crowd, or more likely sour grapes from Mohan that his latest PR campaign is being upstaged by an illicit space race. Either way, it didn't work, Cmdr Sulu avoided the Core Dynamics ad, so the run was good.

And it really was good, moving Sulu back into third place in Seagull - 26 seconds ahead of Cmdr Epaphus - despite the attentions of hackers, many Truckers Union pilots in their Type-9s and the automated weapon systems of the Lave Radio Signal Booster.

Earlier in the day BRC regulars Cmdr Inga Stevenson and Cmdr Leeya Geddy had both got decent first Shenanigan runs onto the board in 7th and 8th positions. Inga was the slower of the two with a run of 43m44s in her DBX Medusa's Gambit, but hopefully the temporal instability that disrupted her witchspace transits will clear up tomorrow. Leeya Geedy meanwhile joined the pod of Dolphins, taking Passage To Bangkok around the course in 39m51s. Leeya said that the less said about her flyving, the better, but while there's few few things Little Nuk loves watching more than an SRV spinning and cartwheeling helplessly (and then preferably exploding), even he had to admit that the flyving went pretty well once Leeya had cleared the bounder field she'd landed in.

Yet another important note: The CQC / Core Dynamics holo-banners at The Orange Sidewinder now look like they have three states, post-update: CQC, Core Dynamics and one Powerplay banner. I've opted to make it slightly easier, rather than slightly harder - so as long as you avoid the Core Dynamic banner and hit one of the other two states then your run is good.

I intended to do a run, but somehow, things didn't work out. At first, I couldn't find the Associated Pharmaceutical Services in my navigation list, whereas I was sure that on my last attempt, I could select it before taking off from George Lucas. I had to fly to Leest 4 and the installation would just appear in my navlist as I was almost on top of it.
And on the way back, I quite thoroughly fumbled the landing, bouncing off of walls and structures before I finally had my landing gear out and properly located my pad. Just to proceed landing sideways and having to do a 20-point-turn to convince the docking clamps to hook up. All that while listening to the voice of the controller changing from relaxed and friendly to very stern to strictly business...
I then decided to not push my luck and call it a night.

One of these days, I'll get a run in the books. One of these days...

I hope.

By the time the update finally finished last night, there wasn’t enough time to make a run before I had to deal with real-life obligations. Thankfully (for a given definition of the word) we’re so short handed in my department that our store manager chose me stocking the shelves early in the morning over me covering the mid afternoon shift.

Just one run to report so far today, in Once Upon a Time Class, Cmdr Tobias Von Brandt made an improvement of just over a minute in his regulation Mk.III Sag Wagon. That allowed jumped him from 9th place, all the way up to 5th - and only a single second behind Cmdr Sulu in 4th!

I'll post another update during the day tomorrow, hopefully around midday game-time, but real life might delay that by a couple of hours. After that, I won't update the leaderboards again until after the end at 12:00 UTC on Monday. I want to make a couple of runs in each class myself over the weekend, and so I won't be checking submissions in-between these final updates.

Have a great weekend of racing Cmdrs, hopefully there will be no storms or temporal instability in witchspace to disrupt the end of the race. Fly fast o7

Installations disappear from the nav panel if you relog on the stations sadly, need to take a short trip into supercruise to repopulate it before starting, or waste time looking for it when you should be speeding towards it.

New Shenannigans Class entry submitted. I got up early enough to make a run before I analyzed the few runs that would be eligable for entry, and it was doing well. Aside from the issues that continue to plague me on the approach to the Orange Sidewinder / Lave Station, I really felt I was in the zone. Then, at Lave Radio Beacon, one of the bolts attaching my joystick to my chair decided to come loose, making my joystick all wobbly. I decided to try to power through it, but after ruining my approach to Shifnalport, ended up fixing it.

Despite that problem, it is still my best entry so far... by about three seconds. :( More importantly, adjusting for my issues around Planet Lave, my hypothetical "perfect" run is still about four minutes slower than what I think it should be. Consulting the ever helpful Inara, I should be able to improve Medusa's Gambit speed a bit. If that isn't sufficient to at least close the gap, I do have a plan "B," that I'll use after I do some Once Upon a Time runs.
