The Buckyball Racing Club presents: Thargoid Structure Scramble 2 (Swift-16 Championship, Race 2)

I've been investigating sites closer to their stars but still within a couple of jumps for Unlimited. Not sure about race times but I've got a very impressive-looking spreadsheet out of it. That counts, right?
Looking forward to it.
Update 15 in middle of race could be very interesting. Highly unlikely but could an interesting challenge if we have to suddenly dodge Thargs on foot while getting the scan and link :)
Treat them like Belugas coming through the mail-slot and set ramming speed!
Thank you guys for all the info... lol, it's probably best that I don't try content creation till I learn how to race anyway.
Except for blooper reels - and you have the makings of an excellent blooper reel there! 😁 Does ringing the doorbell count as a reverse blooper?

Today I learned that if you recce in one ship with a DSS, and then switch to the Reg Cobra, none of the Thargoid stuff shows up. And then when you fit a DSS, pirates like to interdict you as you try and home in on the Unknown Structure Scan. So, are we allowed to pick up more than one Thargoid Sensor and let any pirates get their ships melted from the inside out?

After all that, I think There Goes Me Whippet and her trusty sidekick Young Whippetsnapper are ready for the race! (and Thargoids, and pirates.)

I keep having a bit of trouble with that on and off. I've been trying the Delphi system 5A... Been a bit more consistant. Only problem is it's 3,000 l/s and that's in an human inhabited system... while carrying cargo, so you are likely to get interdicted if you're in the shipping lane.... I've been doing a big arc to avoid the shipping lane. The other option you can do is 'loop of shame' on purpose. Only problem then is that the Thargoid site is on the sunny side, so you would have to wrap back into the planet very tight and get into orbital cruise area to not get interdicted. (maybe it will be on the dark side during the race... I forgot to check all the planets 'day cycles')

I hope 'trying to help other racers' is not against any rules... If I figure out things that may help, I'm sharing.

HIP 17403 A4A has 31 day cycle, so that will likely still be on the nite side during the race...
Pleiades OD-S B4-1 is 1.4 day cycle, but it's tidally locked to the Gas Giant and I don't remember if the Goid site faces the planet or away from it.
And Delphi is 3 day cycle
Actually I think they may all be Tidally locked... Trying to get Mercenary rank in the bubble for new suit, I could back tomorrow and check....

(EDIT) Hmmm... I wonder if most Thargoid sites are on Tidally locked planets... if they are, then that's not accident... that would mean they are not crashed ships!

If people want to grab both sensors that's fine. It was originally suggested that people might wish to do this so they can jettison one during an interdiction to distract Thargoids from using their shutdown field. I tried this several times myself during testing but just couldn’t get it to work.

I think they do the shutdown regardless.
However if I'm remembering correctly, if you don't get away and they scan you then you can drop it and run away, that will distract them so they don't attack you for having their stuff in your cargo.

Ok! Will be undertaking my first scouting run tonight. I have never, ever been anywhere near a thargoid structure before. Was a little tied up until this point but the rest of the working week will be spent practicing and refining.

Wish we could use an SLF instead of an SRV (it’s been done before) for the structure part in unlimited though. Will try that once the race is done I think.

Most important SRV thing is to remember to take one with you. Mere driving issues pale into insignificance beside that one. ;)

Delphi 5A is one of the alternatives I've been investigating for Unlimited, but as you point out it's a long way from the star. The pirate was more a laugh than anything else though: she interdicted me as I was spiraling towards the planet, I submitted and boosted away. Then she wildly overshot on the second attempt, and finally got me again as I was dropping into Orbital cruise. I actually managed to get her to drop out of supercruise, all while frantically searching for the Unknown Structure to target. Dropping a spare Sensor so that she could boil herself up would have been the icing on the cake :D

While I can vouch for the fact that getting an SLF inside a Thargoid Structure is definitely a laugh, you can't scan or scoop anything while you're in there so it's one for screenshots and bragging rights only. Also, careful not to get locked in! Having to call a Fuel Rat to come and let you out is pretty embarrassing!
Ok, that thread was the funniest thing I've read in a long time. Watching the sensor roll off down the slope and the door slam shut was wonderful! :ROFLMAO:

Well, managed my first successful gravity breaking attempt returning to Artemis Lodge (after messing up all the others this week). Was a bit flukey if I'm to be honest. But pleased nonetheless. It does follow my SRV getting destroyed by scavengers after shooting the thargoid device by mistake, however.

Did you do it with the planet gravity or that helical rotation trick? I'm still having problems with both..
(edit) that was a dumb question, you did say gravity... lol.

Switched to the Courier, remembered the SRV, but forgot cargo racks! Couldn't board the ship with my freshly acquired sensors
After returning to Artemis and trying again, when diving down to the second structure, the cargo hatch gave way and everything fell out. So you can scoop a sensor when you're both about 10km above the surface, but I don't know that I'd recommend it unless you're desperate; and I was!

So I present Imperial Courier Me Whippet's On Fire! (with cargo rack) and SRV A Whippet Costs How Much???
