The Buckyball Racing Club presents: The Empire Hustle 8th - 16th April 3309 (Swift Sixteen Championship, Race 1)

Just for fun? Or is there more to this story?

And welcome to Buckyball Racing! .. and that goes to all the new faces we're seeing here this week.
I hope folks are planning to come back each month and take part in all 8 of the 3309 championship races.
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Initially we were trying to get the most of the courier with the materials I had while doing a live stream on twitch. One viewer suggested that I could save power by deactivating the life support. I loved the idea and since 7.5 minutes is enough between two stations I could save about 5% power which is a big deal. That and deactivating the cargo door.
My ship is not fully engineered so it was some last minute hack in the stands by the mechanics I would say. In the very end it wasn't needed anymore but I kept running like that because it was more Mad Max. "Witness me!"
Also I was running with the smallest fuel tank possible (1C) and I had many warnings about fuel, but it helped me reach 48.7 ly with what I had at the time.
I will for sure try the next races with a better engineered ship hopefully.

Thanks again!

Love it - that technique for saving power has BUCKYBALL written all over it!

P.S. another tip for saving power (don't know if folks know this or not) - once you've set your pips (4 to ENG obv's) you can turn off the power distributor too.

I striped parts my other ships and put a Courier build together. Threw it around the track last night, surprising no one it was a lot faster than the Cutter.
Looking forward to see where it ends up on the leader board 😁
If only I could engineer the Courier's canopy to remove the 2nd ring from the cockpit, it really does annoy me and put me off building one earlier.

I'm going to be so confused after this when I swap to ships I took bits from and wonder why I have random E rated modules installed 😂

Ok we have the new leader boards in and there has been some movements.
In regulation we had dean36963 come in with a superb 25.19 knocking our Mr Turner off the top spot only to get an immediate return from Alec to take back the lead. That is racing! Luckily for the rest of us humbles our positions are virtually unchanged except for the exceptional jump by Inga Stevenson into 5th place. Well done indeed!
Lower down we have some new commanders still learning the ropes but nevertheless are in there fighting. We welcome you all!

Now to unlimited where there has been a significant change at the top with our ever faithful Shaye Blackwood coming in with an astonishing 16.01 to take 1st place from Bruski. I think there will be some fist fights there. Lower down Epaphus has made a massive improvement by changing ships and jumping to 4th place. That was probably a good move there. Kyle Stryker has also got out of the 1 point club with their latest run.
It has been a busy couple of days with fantastic numbers still coming in. Keep it up folks

It is plain to see which is the fastest ship in the Empire now as well!

Wow! I'm so glad I decided to give the Cobra another spin this morning. I don't know what it was, something about the name of @dean36963's ship just made me uneasy about resting on my laurels. (bloody fantastic racing by the way, sorry to deprive you of your richly deserved moment at the top ... for now at least ... game on!).

As for Shaye's Unlimited time ... what can one say.

THAT'S COMPLETELY FLIPPIN' RIDICULOUS!!!

I had another couple of runs around the course tonight, the first run was a write off after the second station, but the next run was going really well. I got the pad I wanted quickly on the first two stations and stuck the landings too. Then Gottlob... You know when you see your boost fill up and you instinctively hit it and instantly regret it?

It must have cost me about 15 seconds or so, but overall the run was still an improvement. I thought I was going to close in on Mr. Turner but I see both he and dean36963 have pulled away even further. Now just to work out where they've saved that extra jump...

I have done this so... many... times. I just can't help it!

Yet more aborted attempts. 1/ Phone call (at 10.30pm!) 2/ Wireless mouse went dead whilst circumnavigating a station, sending me spinning hopelessly into space 3/ Forgot to start video recording 4/ Mucked up my first braking approach.......that's it for tonight. threats from family to ban Buckyball due to howls of anguish and foul language while they try and sleep.

Oof, sorry about all that, not that it's much consolation but we've all had days like those.

I haven't used a wireless mouse for about 20 years on my gaming PCs just because of it once running out in the middle of a heated Team Fortress Classic clan match :D It's not worth the risk.

I made it! I'm under the 20 min mark yeah! I shaved 2min13s from my previous submission :giggle:.
That will be my last attempt for this race.
Heck yeah, congratulations!

All entries placed overnight have been received thank you.

Todays board update will be the last until the final results on Monday/Tuesday. Any entries made before midnight (BST) tomorrow can still be entered by Monday morning until the official entry form is closed.

You therefore still have plenty of time to upset the boards or improve your times.

Fly Hard!

Todays Update
There will be no more until final results

In regulation there has been some movements in the higher middle of the board with our Ozric making a fairly large jump up the boards to take 4th place. Above him however comes our Bruski to hold a very cool 3rd place from nowhere. First and second place remain unchanged so Alec is still just holding his lead for now.
We also have some new names in the regulation board so welcome to Stobi-Wan, Mr Indigo and Draig Seren. Nice to have you aboard!

In unlimited it has been a bit quieter with some improved times and movements at the lower end. However, Shaye, Bruski and Alec are still holding their positions.

Will they all keep their places? Who knows?

Good Luck and fly hard!
