The "Can I Run Planet Coaster" thread

Hi All

Thinking of building a new PC as my current one is going to struggle running this.

Am currently between i5 6600K and i7 6700K.

There is about £100 difference in the cost, which unfortunately is a factor.

Will the i7 make a difference? In your opinion would it be worth it?

I want the PC to last and would rather spend more money now then have to upgrade again in a year or so. My current PC runs games really well with high quality graphics but the old i7 920 CPU is not going to cut it for this game.

Grateful for any/all opinions.

Thanks

Definitely go with i7 build, it's much better for the long run.

Hi I am looking to by a laptop to play this game. After much research this is the best one I can afford with my budget. I know that a desktop would have much better performance but I only need a laptop at the moment. Do you Think it will be able to run it well on lower graphics. How does this affect the game. And does anyone have a laptop with similar specs playing this game many thanks. Helomanders :)

Hey

I use a similar set up, with a 970m... Planet Coaster in its current state is very playable [happy] (Dell, can be quite overpriced for what they are tbh. I would suggest shopping around)

Hi, I'm also looking to buy a new laptop to run Planet Coaster. I'm looking at about $1000 budget. I've narrowed it down, but I need some opinions on some of my options. The two PCs are:
Asus Rog GL552VWDH71 - intel i7 6700hq, 16gb ddr4 ram, gtx 960m 2gb - priced at $1100
or
Dell 15 gaming - intel i7 6700hq, 16gb ddr3l ram, gtx 960 4gb - priced at $950
My big question is what's more important?... the ddr4 ram with the 2gb vid card or the ddr3l ram with the 4 gb vid card? thanks for your help

I think you can get some better laptops than that for your price range check out http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk I've used them before and they are really good

More VRAM is normally better. However, I've had so many problems with Dell laptops and Dell support in the past that I would advise you to steer clear of them. Inspiron machines have zero quality control. Its specs are better than the Asus, but if there's a problem you're screwed. There must be an Asus 9-series GPU laptop with the same specs.

I am surprised an Nvidia 10-series GPU doesn't fit your budget. I just did a search and found Clevo starting at $1300 and Asus starting at $1400 which is definitely over budget. They should come down if you can wait until November.

Hey guys!
I've been following PC since it's announcement and I'm in serious need of a PC upgrade.
Now I might get some flak for this, but is there any gaming desktop that you all can recommend that is off the shelf?
I'm not a builder and I'm just looking for something I can purchase that can run PC decently.

Thanks in advance! [happy]

I think the i5 6600K has only 6MB cache where as the i7 6700k has an 8MB cache. The 6700k also has a higher base and turbo clock frequency too.

And you can overclock that 6700k to 5.0ghz and feel like a true master race while playing Planet Coaster

Or maybe Intel could create a chip which runs the maximum amount of cores that Planet Coaster will permit, and aim for 6Ghz, and perhaps put like a 30mb cache in it. I read the 6700k can be overclocked to near 5Ghz. [wink]

Yeah I think around 4.7/ 4.8 is the normal maximum before voltages get too high for continual use. I think someone here did a test on core usage on one of the x99/2011 socket versions?

Maybe intel aren't aware they could so easily create a 20 core 6ghz chip? Someone should write in and tell them.

I know how annoying it must be to have 29 pages of people checking their specs, but I would be hugely grateful if someone could give me any sort of clue as to how my machine would run this game!

Windows 10 (x64bit)
Intel Core i7-4790 @ 3.6ghz
8.0gb ram
NVIDIA geforce gt720 (i think 2GB if this is video memory??)

Thanks for any help!

Your processor is good however your GFX card is going to really struggle to run the game :(. The GT720 is only really designed for multi monitor setups, not really for games.

^ I guess he could still play it on 720p LOW settings with ok frame rate until he hits like 3k or 4k people in the park. It probably won't be able to manage more larger detailed populated parks.

I also have an HP 15-ab222tx white laptop which has a weak 6th gen i5-6200u and intel HD 520 and AMD R7 M360, and I was able to play on 720p LOW settings and get like 14-24fps until I hit 2,500+ people about. I got my laptop last year and it was the first laptop selling in retail stores here in New Zealand, which had a 6th gen intel CPU and Windows 10 installed on it. Most laptops selling last year still had Windows 8, and I don't like Windows 8. Even all my Xbox friends who are 12 and up, said they hated the Windows 8 like UI on Xbox One. But Microsoft now has more like a Windows 10 like UI on Xbox One, and I love it.

It's possible that you will be able to run the game with that setup, but it's not officially supported.

Good morning, looking at ordering a PC today in preperation for the release. Looking at this below, would the game run well on good settings? Thank you :)

Processor: Intel Core i5-6400
Memory: 8GB DDR4 2133MHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
Storage: 250GB SSD / 1TB HDD
Operating System: Windows 10 Home

System memory is on the minimum side but should be fine especially DDR4 memory which is newer tech to DDR3. You also have a good GPU too. And SSD too. And Microsoft's Windows 10.

That processor though, is pretty weak. 2.7Ghz with max turbo 3.3Ghz. 4 cores 4 threads. And has no hyperthreading. I would suggest at least an i5-6600k which, although it doesn't have hyperthreading too (4 cores 4 threads), it has a higher clock speed. But the 6th gen Intel Core i7-6700k which I have would be a better option. It has an 8MB cache instead of a 6 or 3MB cache, a high 4Ghz base speed with turbo boost to 4.2Ghz, and it has hyperthreading, 4 cores, 8 threads. According to MSI Afterburner results, this game and The Sims 4 utilize hyperthreading. So if your CPU for example has 4 cores 8 threads, the game will utilize those 8 threads.

This game is very CPU intensive. Even people with high end rigs are running into like 10-15fps on larger detailed more heavily populated parks (5,000+ people). AI and scenery and rides in this game tend to weigh down your system. I suggest an i7-6700k or at the very least, an i5-6600k to help future proof your PC investment.

Thanks for the reply! I'm buying through Chillblast, there is an option to upgrade to i5-6600k, but no i7 options. Has anyone bought through Chillblast before, if not can anyone recommend any UK sellers?

^If you're going with a K series CPU, be sure to get a z170 motherboard and an aftermarket CPU cooler. Otherwise, you won't be overclocking much.

I'm not sure about UK sellers, but as always I'd recommend you building the PC yourself. It saves money, isn't that hard, and the required research will really help down the road when you need to troubleshoot system components and upgrade, because you'll know what each thing is and what it does.
