The Cassiopeia Project

they disappear when I drive off what is an easy way to shrink them to get them into the forums.

You'll want to convert them from .bmp to .png which is something you can do in Microsoft Paint. Just open the file with paint and then choose "File" and "Save As". Choose the option to save as .png and then drop them into the Discord chat. Once they are on Discord you can right click on the image and select "copy link" or "copy image address" (or something similar). Then you can post that link into the forums.

MISSION UPDATE - 13 NOV 3302

Week two of the Cassiopeia Project is now underway. I personally made it to Kappa Cassiopeia right before having to head into work. Steven Eisler is still catching up. I'd like to thank everyone who has participated so far. This week we will begin the sector search for Tycho G. I will try and get a video up on Tuesday demonstrating to search procedure.

Keep flying!

I'm visiting AR Cassiopeia today, so am a little behind schedule... will try and catch up later this week :)

Excellent work CMDR! I've started a spreadsheet with each of the coordinates. I've added your find as an example. If you can target Sol and get a pic, that would be a bonus! Hopefully the sheet is pretty self explanatory. I'll post an instructional video tomorrow

Keep flying!

hey um i think we will not find tycho as a hidden system Ed has permits to keep ppl out i mean look we got a bunch of systems out in the void that nobody can go to cause its permit. would be pointless for them to have a hidden system we can lock onto jump.

We know there's something out there that CAN be found though, and has been in-game since the beginning. That's what driving this whole Formidine Rift business.

I have fewer hopes on finding Tycho then I do Cassiopeia A, to be honest.

Class G stars are pretty common. We're lucky that we can narrow it down to G2s but that still leaves a lot of systems to catalog. So. Why bother? Tycho's SNR is a sufficiently studied stellar object. There is no explanation as to why, when creating the galaxy, Frontier "missed it". There are plenty of other real life stars that are lesser known that DID make it into the game. The fact that both Tycho's SNR and Cas A are missing has been bug reported. No definitive answer has ever been given. Are they missing by design? We have been teased and teased about a mystery near this area of space. There is no guarantee that these two objects are a part of that mystery but I think the search is worth it regardless. Here are the possible outcomes that I envision:

1. We finally crack the mystery of the Formidine Rift.
2. We find nothing. Frontier finally confirms that they simply don't exist in their galaxy. We can finally put this one to bed.
3. Frontier confirms they don't exist but uses our data to "declare" one of the systems discovered in our survey to be Tycho G and another one to be Cassiopeia A.
4. Frontier ignores our effort and I come back out here again next year.

There is value in the outcomes of 1, 2 or 3. I think that value is worth the risk of outcome 4.

I have no idea how to find co-ords properly in game, scrolling around the G map hoping to find them seems a bit.... shoddy.

It is kind of shoddy. No tools to just enter coordinates in the game though. :(

Whatever the outcome, we're all going to end up with fat stacks of exploration credits. Obviously it'll be awesome if we do find the target systems, but even if we don't it's not like we end up with nothing :p

On a related note, I just got my fat- T7 to the Bow-Tie Nebula. Had to dump a few limpets to make the longer jumps, so I might fast-track back to the bubble and catch up with you guys later in the week. Posted some screenies in Discord, and going to post my route here later on so I can get rid of all the bookmarks cluttering my galaxy map. I hope they introduce a system to filter bookmarks, the current system is very messy once you get more than 30 or so.

That. With the bookmarks now in game, what would be really nice is the ability to select two, set a radius and bam, display a
translucent cylinder centered on the line defined by the two points and the radius.

bonus 1 if it can act as a map filter.
bonus 2 if one can pick a single point to do a sphere.

Anyway, just as an extra aside : there is yet an other SNR in the RiftArea : SN 1181

Now you're just teasing me. Those kind of filters would be awesome.

Yeah, SN 1181 is another one. I've been thinking about what to do after the Cassiopeia Project. One idea is to launch an on-going project: SNRS - Supernova Remnant Survey to visit and catalog as many galactic SNRs as we can. That will be for a later date though.
