The Circumnavigation of Mercury

Breaking news from Earth: the council is tarmacing the road outside my house there; I might ask them to do Mercury next - a two-lane blacktop around the equator would suit me nicely.

The next milestones are some way off still: (0,130) will be two-thirds distance; (0,160) is three-quarters distance; and (0,180) is the place I change the chart to +/-180 range with just 70 degrees to do after that.

Really getting the hang of mid-flight course correction, although still having some spectacularly bumpy landings. Thanks to VoiceAttack, I can now repair the SRV quickly before landing if I need to.

Ten degrees covered today, which is 426km. That'll do, pig.

I'm wondering which of these bright bodies in the sky are the other planets of the Sol system; I don't suppose there's any way of knowing. According to this orrery view, I should be looking in the western sky for Earth.

If you target bodies like Earth from your ship won't that highlight the appropriate bright dot in the sky and allow you to figure it out that way?

Sounds like that would work; it's a pity you can't target it from the SRV. The next time I accidentally recall the ship when button 5 on the TWCS does its thing, I'll try that.

That last degree was like driving through Mordor with the weight of the One ring around my neck. If I had the upcoming space legs it would have been quicker to walk.

I did as you suggested, after inadvertently recalling the ship, and Earth is just below the horizon on a heading of 084. I might see an Earthrise shortly, as I'm heading in that direction.
