Release The Colonia Census - history and geography resource for the Colonia region

The Colonia region is large enough to be interesting, but small enough to be comprehensively recorded and analysed. It also has many differences from the Sol region, and some less obvious points of interest. Unlike most of the galaxy, it is also actively being expanded and developed.

The Colonia Census - https://cdb.sotl.org.uk/ - aims to record the history and geography of the region and provide information useful to those resident or visiting, as well as providing a neutral BGS data resource for local factions.

The nature of the Colonia economy also allows more detailed study of certain aspects to be carried out - the tables on BGS effects, trade specialisations and regeneration rates contain a lot of data applicable to the Sol bubble economy.

The region being small enough to cover in detail - as well as being entirely self-contained in BGS terms - makes it practical to run a lot of detailed analysis and reporting with fairly good data quality. Please ask if there's anything else you would find useful - new features have been regularly added since the site was originally set up.

The majority of site data is collected automatically through the EDDN network - if you're on PC, you can contribute to this using tools such as EDDiscovery, ED Market Collector, or EDDI. It is currently not possible to collect the data on daily traffic, crimes or bounties this way, as it is not provided in the Journal or through the cAPI - this data is dependent on volunteers collecting it manually. Please get in touch if you're in the region and would like to help with this (or if you're able to add it to the Journal and would like to *massively* help :) )

Question please. Is this effort a one-off for Colonia only, or do these sites exist for all of the ED systems? Thx,
I only maintain it for the Colonia region.

For general summaries of all systems there is EDSM https://edsm.net/ and EDDB https://eddb.io/, of course. They have different aims and provide different sorts of data and analysis.

I know some of the bigger player groups have private tools with similar capabilities internally, to cover their regions of interest. I don't know the details.

I'm happy to advise on adapting it to other locations if someone wants to do the work ... it would be moderate effort (for a programmer) for other semi-isolated areas such as the Pleiades or California Nebula ... and rather more work (and some difficult decisions) for a section of the main bubble.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for putting together and maintaining your website, I found it very helpful with outfitting for the mining CG.

I can't find ship availability per station on your site, although I know this is available on inara.cz so not a problem. Are all ships +20% cost compared to the standard, or does it vary per station, or per ship?

Cheers :)

I could probably add it, though "if it has a shipyard and the outfitting sells the armour" is a reasonable guess. Though oddly some Federal armours are available despite the Fed ships (obviously) not being.

No, only certain stations are +20% costs (I *think* Colonia, Ratraii, Ogmar, Kojeara - but not Carcosa, strangely)

So it's only the systems containing "high quality outfitting" then, even if the station itself doesn't offer high quality outfitting.

Thanks :)

A few updates recently
- the map has been updated to have a mode showing factional control over multiple systems (e.g. https://cdb.sotl.org.uk/map#XZ~C:control~C:control~X~1~0~0 )
- there is now a page summarising major statistics and comparing with other inhabited regions - https://cdb.sotl.org.uk/regions
- commodity information now shows a bit more information and should be easier to use
- some other minor usability tweaks
- the "Colonia Exodus" outposts have been added

G'day Ian,

First of all I love your website! It'smade my Colonia trip a lot less frustrating haha.

I am currently in the Colonia system and have found a few errors in the outfitting section regarding available modules. I would like to report the changes as there are a few. Where can I do this to help out?

The outfitting pages intentionally show what can be produced, rather than what's currently in stock on a particular day.

I've added a separate view - https://cdb.sotl.org.uk/outfitting/current - of what's currently in stock now.
(And similar views - e.g. https://cdb.sotl.org.uk/stations/108/outfitting/current - for each station)

These will get updated automatically - and for the important stations, probably fairly quickly - as people dock with EDDN data collection tools running. The individual module pages will show stock levels - and, over time, also which modules are only sometimes available.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Greetings. I was just introduced to your site today, I love it. A lot of time and effort have gone into this site, and it is much appreciated. One thing I would like to see is an index explaining what each of the icon/symbols mean. I am totally perplexed by some of them, ie..the telephone and envelope icons.
Cheers, and enjoy your day. o7

The telephone means Service Economy or Communications Installation depending on context. The envelope means Missions Service at the station, and the other different-looking telephone means Contacts Service at the station.

Some of them are more obvious than others, but if you hover your mouse over them it'll tell you what they mean. Unless you don't have a mouse, of course ... I'll add a key to the to-do list.

Thanks for your response. I had not been on a PC while using this site, it was always on my iPad. (which of course has no mouse ). Your site is invaluable while " in game ", and I am a PC gamer.

A new feature - https://cdb.sotl.org.uk/visit - visit tracking. Enable it and you can keep track of which stations, systems, factions, and other points of interest you've seen, find out what's new since you last visited, or see your progress towards personal goals (e.g. Allied with every faction, or fully-scan every system)

All data is stored in your browser and doesn't go anywhere near the census servers.
