I'm a lucky £80 all updates free KS backer. I assume when they merge the PC base my option to select 'EDH' will be replaced with 'Odyssey' only and as a all updates backer that is what i get, FPS face stabbing and all (plus worse GUI and performance)? I don't think i will still be able to play EDH will I?

Yes, you will be able to select Horizons, as you now can. All that will happen (if / when it does) is that the EDO UIs and planetary tech will replace the current Horizons ones. Plus, if you are a social type (like me) you will once again be able to fly with friends / enemies / others who are playing the version you are not.

ETA: The same restrictions that apply in Horizons will still be there: No disembarking onto a planet surface (from ship or SRV) and not able to land on bodies with a tenuous atmosphere, nor able to use on-foot facilities.

I could maybe buy a console to ensure i can still play EDH (which i might prefer as an Elite game).

That was the point of my post, to help the console players step outside their current angst and understand the wider issues involved here

I imagine it will be similar to pre-EDO, when we had a "vanilla" client and "horizon" client in the launcher. It was effectively the same game in all aspect but the Horizon landing part.
It was/is used mostly to fix ground based issue.

Be aware, however, that you will need to restart from scratch. Also, all future updates will not be on console. No new ships, content, game mode, fixes to old content (as it would happen^^)... or whatever else Fdev adds.
Possibly future CG and other kind of community content.

Really when i think about it, i would have to conclude the console players may end up with the best version of ED, they should be happy.

As a console player with no use case for a PC I’m honestly not that surprised or disappointed, I had many years of enjoyment in ED but it was always a compromised product compared to the PC version.
odyssey wasn’t at all the future I hoped for when it was announced ‘space legs’ were coming so i genuinely don’t feel like I’ve lost anything, Frontier shouldn’t have given console players false hope for so long but they are not the first game developer to do that and they won’t be the last.
To add to what a few other people have said it’s been a blast but nothing good lasts forever, I hope ED goes on to bigger and better things but sadly given everything that’s happened over the past year I’m not confident it will.

Imagine seeing the news on the forum of a game you play about, on how the company behind it stop developing the game on a platform. And instead of offering some moral support to the people who are affected, or at least ignore the problem since it doesn't concern you, you decide to go out of your way to troll said players.

I mean, that would be rude, right ?

But then the same people were trolling VR players when they were told they wouldn't be able to play Odyssey in VR.



Empathy, google it, it's a concept. Something our world would need a bit more nowadays.

empathy (noun) - "the ability to understand and share the feelings of another"

There's a difference between showing empathy for legitimate feelings versus enabling bad behavior.

While I absolutely understand the disappointment of console players and know I would be equally as disappointed if I, as a PC player, were impacted in this way, I do not share the feelings of the players who express an immature sense of entitlement in a whiney, melodramatic fashion. That kind of bullchit deserves to be mocked.

You will not be forced to play Odyssey (as in, the DLC). Just like you are not forced to play Horizon (the DLC, again). You can play "vanilla" ED on PC, and you will not be able to land on any planet at all, if you do so. If you are already on a planet when you switch through the launcher, you'll get kicked in orbit.

This used to be the case. But horizons was rolled into vanilla elite so the option is no longer available. (I believe)

The fact that the first reaction some of you trolls had to this clearly upsetting turn of events was to mock people and tell them no one cares really does exemplefy just how self centred some of you are, and how much empathy you lack.

I've never played Elite on consoles and the news still gutted me. I'm here for all my console brothers and sisters.
