The Console Is Not Your Enemy

Speaking of disposable, is it really in our best interest as a species to be upgrading to the "latest hardware" every year? We're not going to make it to 3303 at this rate. I kinda like to think that by sticking with one console for many years, I'm at least lessen my contribution to this:

Actually that looks like the contents of one of those tech recycling barges. We ship a bunch of this stuff to India which is then repurposed or recycled. That system is a driving factor behind India's emerging tech market too. Also the knowhow generated by technological progression trickles down to places like Africa, which is experiencing a huge uptake with tech consumer devices and services like mobile phones, wifi etc. So there are upsides to wealthy western countries never being satisfied with what they have.

On the ecological aspect, It's actually illegal in some countries to throw a phone/tablet into the garbage when it's broken because of the rare metals it contains, so recycling is encouraged and works in theory. Of course most of us are too lazy to drop our stuff at the recycling banks, or ignorant of the laws in the first place. So when there's a shortage of precious metals we can just say, invade North Korea which has the largest untapped precious metals reserve in the world right now. :/

On the note of recycling, the tech for sorting waste and extracting useful things from it is always improving. It's quite likely that landfill sites will be seen quite literally as gold mines, rich in both valuable metals as well as organic compounds which can be used as chemical feedstock for the organic chemical industries.

Eh? nVidia release a new chipset about twice a year. In the last few years we've seen colossal advances in GPU technology to the point now where 4K Ultra Settings @ 60FPS is a reality for PC owners, even in the most demanding games of the current generation. It will be a long long time before consoles achieve the same level of performance at the same level of visual fidelity. .

I'm not going to claim to be a technical specialist - but this is inaccurate.

The PS4 pro is 4K and has a frame rate of 60 fps.

I totally hear you. The ideal solution is to use our advanced technology to do some advanced automated recycling. I still question our need as individuals to chase after the latest gadget like a dog chases its tail.

LOL, I'm hijacking my own OP. Ok, back on topic now :)

This notion that console owners need to be able to do productivity work on their console is silliness. Email on a console? LOL, this isn't 1995. Most folks use their smartphones for email, along with video recording and editing and everything else listed. The reason a console is good at gaming is because it focuses on being good at gaming.

My PC is an older Macbook Pro (I had to go Mac for business reasons). It's terrific for all these productivity examples given. It's terrible for gaming. Hence, I own a PS4 for that. I would personally never mix productivity and gaming on the same machine, primarily because I don't trust all the DRM mechanisms used by game developers (Ubisoft, I'm looking at you). Then again, I don't trust Windows in general with my personal data. ;)

Email on a console.. HAHAHAHA!

consoles arent good at gaming they are just "user friendly" since the hardwar eis equal and it is easier for the devs to make their games run as well as the users havign less to struggle with things like a PC and their very individual problems. But 30fps is on a shooter based level not even "game worthy"

Int he end a console is simply just a PC nwodays where you have a preset Os on it. Which makes it hardwarewise less flexible they aren't even real cosnoles anymore when they were using discs and had to install games locally..

Consoles become more and more powerful. The world of video games can not do without consoles, it is a reality. Too much money is at stake

Ok, I lied. Consoles ARE the enemy. Muhahahahaha!!!! The PC has left the building! I just pulled a Harry Potter on all you people!

Too soon?

This terrible attempt at humor brought to you by the fashionably late arrival of ED on PS4 (I'd rather be playing the game).
