The dangers of contributing in the "Discussion" thread

Welcome to the Explorers forum CMDR. Pull up a scatter cushion grab a bong and inhale. We are a very chilled out bunch here and can discuss often inflammatory topics in a measured controlled manner. In contrast to the vitriol seen on DD.
You are always welcome here.

Agreed. The exploration forum is the only one I follow. I used to read Canonn's for a while but no longer. Just you guys and our insatiable desire to be in the cockpit exploring.

I guess it's down to venting anger / disappointment / frustration or giving up. Which would the devs prefer? Do my EDD stats look like something FDev want to see?

The garden is looking good though :D

Well, if you don't feel like playing having those stats, I certainly understand. You maxed out the current content of the game. :)

My garden on the other hand looks awful, although I spent a couple of hours today clearing the jungle. :)

Like the Chief, I'd like to thank you all for this thread. It's a breath of fresh air. I've tried to stay out of the Dangerous discussion because I almost always end up depressed. I've tried to make positive contributions there, but usually end up succumbing to an outburst of snark. Learning that there's a way to hide that sub-forum is great (I had no idea) so rep to DR for that.

OP just do what I did, go to dangerous discussions, click on forum tools and select "ignore forum". That wretched hive of scum and villainy should be nuked from orbit as far as I'm concerned [big grin]

Unbelievable that i never thought of that one:) Have just nuked that dark place off the forum. Thank you.

I've had plenty of calm discussion in Dangerous Discussions. Don't damn a whole sub-forum over a few. It just happens to be a section where you can talk about anything related to Elite so of course it's going to attract all kinds. There's no 'danger' to contributing to any sub-forum, you can very easily ignore those who don't discuss things in a way that fits your sensibilities.

As for me, I welcome the different views, aggressive or not so aggressive. Being able to voice concerns a bit more... passionately, is welcome to me. A more sterile environment where everyone 'holds hands' can get quite boring. Different strokes. :)

People are welcome to their opinions on the forums, so long as it is constructive and doesn't violate the forum rules.

Dear Brett C.

Of course you have to be open for everyone. I really hope that all the people at FD have a thick skin and dont get demotivated by all the negativity that is written on the forum. I really, really love your game.
I hope that you guys are still excited about what you are creating. I want to thank you for all your hard work.

And as a dear friend of mine (69th_fab48) once said to me: don't let it go to your head

most sincerely

I've always given Dangerous Discussion a wide birth. I like to find smaller places like this here sub-forum. I like it calm, friendlier and have a hope of getting to know the other posters.

Good point and one which i agree with. The 'danger' I'm referring to isn't open constructive discussion though, it is negative attack at positive input, which is seriously messed up and appears to be being generated more frequently every day on DD and worryingly it appears to be being unmoderated.
But yes it's not "dangerous" perse just really bloody rude. And to be honest CMDR i only hold hands with people i like:)

It's generally the same 10 people or day old accounts that were only made to disparage. It is being moderated for sure as I've even had to ask about the banned title I've been seeing of more recently. I thought people found a way to troll due to how it is formatted. [haha] Although, due to the volume of posts, I imagine it's easy for unreported posts to slip through. I've been reported for less, so it is a bit surprising that some things do get to stay, but it's not our decision. I can say for sure though, that things are getting moderated and reporting works. If all else fails the ignore button works just as well, as you've just found. So worry not. :)

A single white pip for Jackie Silver? What? Here, have some rep.

Have I gone against the grain and done something positive? Sorry. :D

Jackie's rep went platinum. :p

As for any vitriol... meh. I have my concerns, but I've got better things (in game) to do right now.

EDIT: in parentheses.

I do post there a lot, and have a request for the forum administrators.

Since posting in DD has so much more risk of running into vitriolic hyperbolic nonsense, I'd like 20% more rep please.
Sneaky, Ziggy, very sneaky. Is that considered "rep bait"? :p
.
OP, I also used to avoid DD but now simply ignore people that consistently cause issues. It does provide for some strange reading when 3-4 of the ugly posts are missing and it looks like CMDRs are responding to themselves quite aggressively. You will still find some useful information in DD such as True_silvers tips on FA off, PVP, etc. Just have to shift through the biowaste.

Indeed ... as repugnant or toxic as some of these threads are I like to keep an open mind to all sides of the game. And whether I agree or not isn't really important to me as knowing what's out there. Sort of like the game itself. Natural and human dangers.

I guess in some of the threads my problem is sitting on my hands not responding when I really have nothing constructive, other than an opinion, to offer. So I read on shaking my head at some of the comments. I'll say this and shut up ... there seems to be quite a few that span all the flight/space sims by wanting the instant, an often aggressive, arcade experience that E D only offers in small perportions.

Well again, enough rambling.
