The Deep Space Support Array (DSSA) | A FleetComm Initiative

I am already out in the black with my carrier and heard about this long after I left. I know there are currently no signups/slots available but I would just like to throw my hat in the ring and take part should a slot become available.

Carriers name is Melchetts Rest, I provide Repair, Armoury, Refuel (just as an option) Shipyard and UC. Melchetts Rest also has a full hold of tritium to buy and donate if you wish. I am currently near the Traikeou Nebula en route to the Perseus Arm where I had planned to sit in DS for over a year. I am more than happy to offer support services for other carriers in this sector if your roster is full.

See you out there :)

When I head out that way, I'll be sure to pay you a visit!

This thread needs a sticky (e. g. in the missing Features - FC subforum :))

Question:
Does anybody have installed the "mining utility" package and therefore has Pulse Wave Analysers in stock? Should be 50 units...

Will do shortly.

Thanks to the awesome dedication of the community, there are already 39 operational carriers!
Congrats Qohen, given the number of carriers already on their way or about to leave or guaranteed to leave in the coming months, that's already one heck of a completion percentage for any expedition/initiative. I was very much expecting worse fleet attrition.

Flying from the Galactic Unity carrier to Dssa Enigma ATM, returning from the Aphelion expedition at Beagle point.

Between carriers and visiting some nebulas on the way, you always seem to have a target planned every 50 jumps or so. It really makes a difference in immersion and spicing up the monotony of exploring, let alone making sure your most valuable first discoveries get tagged. And of course safety in case of a ship emergency.

So a big thanks to the Dssa Initiative and those involved for providing all this excellent gameplay!

I am also pretty keen to sign up.

Perhaps you could join or create another initiative. There is definitely room for more FCs out there, especially if you are ready to go. I'm looking at the section of the galaxy below, and see many opportunities to carve out an interstellar highway to the Errant Marches, for example. Vulcan's Gate stands out as an area of opportunity.

If you pick a spot anywhere below, even termporarily, you'll generate traffic.

Hi Mersozz

This is great advice thanks,

You're right, looking at the map through that lens there are indeed plenty of opportunities - to both explore and position it where it is useful. To date I have been happy to simply meander through the stars and explore; a sort of perpetual interstellar flaneur you could say. So parking up in a spot, being useful to grander scheme and still enjoying all the exploring I can cram in suits me fine!

Keep up the good work.

Once again thanks for the advice and see you out there Cmdrs 07

If picking carrier locations, you'll probably want to consider not just the DSSA, but other carriers as well. Some useful tools include the carrier-related maps (and now, video!) on EDAstro, and the beta FleetCarrier.space from the Fuel Rats. It certainly seems like the West is more popular with carriers than it was with the DSSA. But on the far side of the Core, pretty much any region has plenty of "carrier-free" space, except the popular Abyss regin.

It's quite interesting, by the way: the carriers that are out in the galaxy (in my definition: 1000 ly away from both Sol and Colonia) are roughly a tenth of the total carriers, and the deployed DSSA carriers are also roughly a tenth of the galaxy carriers. Bear in mind that these are the carriers uploaded to EDDN or Inara though, by either the owner or a visitor - no idea how many carriers might actually be in total.

As an explorer one of the things I haven't seen is any kind of piracy reporting. While I know it isn't very lucrative it would seem like a natural choice for those players who enjoy tagging along on expeditions and then come out of the shadows. Also I'm wondering how all that would play into pirate carrier operations, such as parking at stars a jump or two from known mining and or POI spots. Prior to the age of carriers most explorers flew undefended egg shells while some, like myself, have always equipped some protection at the sacrifice of jump distance. Just curious how the pirate community is responding to this new game mechanic, and how are carrier operators doing so also. Thanks in advance for any insights you can offer.

Whoa!

This thread just threatened to de-rail!

Maybe start a new thread for that Rooster
Sure if you want. Just figured it kinda would tie into the DSSA thread as it seems to be the clearing house for info on carrier status. Jumping into carrier systems in open play if they have piracy operations might prove a little risky.

ok I posted as a separate thread.

So mine is just a hundredth from a tenth from a tenth???
You just killed my feeling of uniqueness :D;)

That's not planned atm, in a few weeks I will check up on the carriers yet to deply and advise then. I don't feel that the network needs more carriers, considering many private carriers will roam the galaxy as well, and more DSSA Carriers means more probability of commitment failures, and me having to track them down.

That being said I need to think about a rotating carrier role, whose mission would be to take the place of a DSSA Carrier while said carrier is off restocking, or while waiting the new one after a decommission, etc.

Great post, this is actually something I was looking for.
