The deepest roots, the widest canopy

"In a wholly corrupt state, the man who is universally gainsaid is often also unassailably correct. What man? That is the work of the new regent, to know this, and no other work matters."

"This must be fixed now, fools! This instant, this hour, or none of you are likely to come through this alive. Would you like to flee ragged across the waters, or to hang the next day? There is ever anchorage upon the lost coasts for such as you. Go now! Toll your plots, pitch your schemes upon your fawning households, but then you will return. You cannot forget that I await at the end of every road, laughing." - [here uncredited]

this second quote is attributed to the Keeper of the Seals, but not the one you may know. He is not from here as it can be said. And as yet he knows nothing of this place, this planet. For those who ask.

It should say "universally gainsaid by his fellows." The obverse of that situation should be cause for alarm; for instance, a person who is universally praised by his fellows in a wholly corrupt state. Also, this commentary is rarified: there are few even among us who know these references, and such vague hints will now be more thoughtfully considered.

Lately, it seems there has been some misinterpretation or misrepresentation by those who are accorded better knowledge. These persons are held to high standards, and this type of fault is corrected. Still, we will be more careful in the future. As we all should be in these increasingly late matters.
