The devs have we done it upside down?!?!

Gamers talk a good fight, but they're also very fickle and quickly move on to the next outrage. Got to love all the armchair lawyers though.

If I remember rightly, there was a class-action lawsuit against Aliens: Colonial Marines and they seemed to have a strongish case for false advertising, but even that wasn't particularly successful. I think it just fizzled out after Gearbox were dropped from the suit and the class-action status was also dropped.

Ok,this is funny....Sega ended up paying almost a million and a half dollars between expenses and payments to consumers, you can look it up.
But again I repeat, that was a game of great projection, elite is not, you are giving too much importance to something that does not have it.
All you are trying to humiliate another user (I did not take it for granted, I only answer nonsense)so you think you are more legitimate than other users, but honestly:

Stop humiliating yourself, there is life outside frontier, elite and the forums, and the uk of course.

Only a million and a half. If I’m not mistaken Aliens sold 1.31 million copies which of the copies were sold for £39.99 means they sold £52m. That class action suit really didn’t do much. I think the main problem is there is outrage at every corner and people making claims (from both sides of the argument) the fact is, Frontier didn’t lie on their advertising (the uk has quite strict advertising laws) nor did they lie to gamers. The gamers themselves have created what they think odyssey should be in their own heads and when that doesn’t marry up to reality then people get a little prissy. Am I saying frontier are blameless? No, they really should have done more to optimise the code and performance amongst many things.

the issue is not the amount, the issue is that they had to drop their pants and reached an agreement to withdraw from the lawsuit, gearbox filed a motion to save because they were not "at fault.
Another piece of information, the lawsuit was no longer collective and was held by only 2 people, with good lawyers behind it.
They simply received their refund and the other players who requested it too, simple.
Lawyers and courts took most of it, obviously.

Which bit in particular was false? And why am I not scammed as I preordered 2 copies, and have exactly what I thought I was buying?
Have you taken a look at the exact planets shown from in-game footage trailers and from Alpha content? The final release is nothing like them, especially the original trailer. That is false advertising, buddy!

So long as the footage was actually taken in-game, whether the terrain is the same now or not, then it's an accurate statement. Where's the false advertising?
Dude, they showed vastly superior visual quality and geometry in the trailer. What was shown is not what they knew they would deliver. It's the same manipulative display of content that CA pulled when they showed off the Siege of Carthage in Rome Total war 2. It's blatant lies and therefore showing something in a trailer that is not what will be produced is FALSE ADVERTISING.

A lot - perhaps the majority - of purchasers got no warning. They are not reading the forums or following every piece of Elite: Odyssey News. Many simply bought on launch day because it was on the Steam front page.

Moreover, they were not "asking for advice". They were complaining, but they got help anyway.

Because contrary to gaming culture tropes, most people are helpful and don't naturally dismiss people who are in distress.

More importantly, the idea that "ranting off has no effect" is precisely the state of helplessness all this "You are more mature by not complaining" corporate marketing wants to achieve. You are their end goal. They want a quiet, helpless consumer who simply buys their product without a choice.

Voicing complaints in fact absolutely has an effect. Because it tells people with similar problems that they are not alone. Most people who suffer product problems in fact never even complain - because they have been beaten down by this corporate message that "complaining means you are weak and immature" - and so they blame themselves even when it's the product that is at fault.
I agree up to a point, i think people are right to voice their complaints. And even though i'm enjoying EDO, yes, there is a fair amount to complain about (new UI i'm lookin at you!)

But there's a difference between voicing dissatisfaction, pointing out what's broken that wasn't before, where it doesn't reach what was 'promised' and "its a SCAM..a SCAM...bait n switch...a SCAMMMM' , demanding a formal apology and some of the level of hysterical reaction people are engaging in over what amounts to in cost, an evening at the movies, dinner at a restaurant or a night out at the pub.

The clue is "pre alpha". Obviously those planets changed since then.

Do you want to see "beautiful" blue skies? I can show you planets with blue skies if you want? I mean, I'm not sure what the complaint is here. Things change? Blue isn't the only pretty colour... But it does exist.

So disappointed, seeing angry with frontier, I didn't bother to take other captures, or even get off the ship. It is the same everywhere on the planet. I did launch odyssey, practically everything in graphics option, it is indeed the same planet. So if I did something wrong tell me, but I left the game itself.
if frontier reads me, do you take the players for fools ????
how can we arrive at such a difference ?? especially going from good to very bad ??

Your CMDS opinions?

If you hate that, wait until you see this:

It is so strange that these people claim to be scammed...

How many of us are playing this "scam"?

Bad workmen have a tendancy to blame their tools...
That makes, literally, no sense. No one here complaining about this obvious bait-&-switch had a hand in actually developing the game and the issues are not related to any actions the players are taking. The product is horrendously broken.

Are you sure?
It has issues, that is certain, but if it was actually broken I wouldn't be able to play at this moment, which, curiously I happen to be doing.

Things need sorting out, the quicker the better, I agree.

So, it won't stop. Let's be honest, if people were smart, we wouldn't be in the world we are now. And stuff like DLC wouldn't have happened, when the one that started it all was a stupid horse armor in Oblivion. Yeah, that's how it started. People laughed because 5$ for a horse armor was ridiculous. And there we are.
The Sims was doing DLC in the form of paid expansion packs at least 2 years before this.

I’m not convinced it started with Oblivion but horse armour was only available as DLC. - It’s certainly the first I brought, but I was one of the idiots asking for it way back in the Alpha stage. 😬
So, you are the reason we have DLC now ? BOYS, GET YOUR PITCHFORKS !
