I play in open, solo, PG and there is zero difference.
Where the difference comes in is where there are people.
As in life there are great folks in open who leave others alone and want to be left alone.
Then there are the ones that are itching for a fight and have their ships decked out specifically for fighting folks in open in PvP.
Many folks who play in open simply want to do their own thing and simply never want to run across another person, whether they are good or bad, and many only want to run across new friends to play with.
The players involved in PP are a small group compared to the whole of the player group, so there are very few, if any, solo players trying to affect the PP bgs.
And when I play in open it is either becasue I am in a system that is not well known and won't see anyone from other factions (which does not even matter to me) or I was going from solo to open to find a fresh mission and happened to be in open when I filled my holds.
I can care less if I see another commander, because I am doing my own thing.
I repeat, while in open I can care less about seeing another person because I am doing my own thing.
The only reason anyone is going to get upset about folks playing in solo or in a PG is this:
They have a ship built for PvP and they want to kill players in ships that are not prepared for PvP, offensively, or defensively.
So if someone is extolling on and on about the great wonderful world of open play, they simply want to kill someone.
They would care less otherwise.
So just play your game, that you paid for, if you play in whatever mode keep playing it.
Playing in open, even in PvP does not make you more of a tough guy than someone who mines exclusively in solo, or in PG with a friend or two.
Two of the greatest memories I had in school was seeing a band member tire of the football player picking on him very publicly, and one day just hit a perfect boxing stance and with a simple quick jab broke the jocks nose.
And the other is talked about to this day and the guy is a legend.
A DND nerd was coming out of the library during lunch and two jocks and about three cheerleaders were leaning against the rails and one of the jocks shoved the little guy, and said "You'll never be anything but a wuss."
The little guy dropped his books and said "You'll always be able to whip my butt, but you'll never have this."
And he unzipped his pants and pulled out an Anaconda and put it back away.
The guy became a legend and was somehow surrounded by all the popular girls from then on, lol.
Ignore the chest pounding and play ED your way, you paid for the game.
I asked a friend who was always reading his Bible why he never goes to church, he answered "Because they're full of people."
I knew exactly what he meant, people are always worried about what others are doing while giving themselves a pass.
And never Combat log, just take the death, and pay for the insurance on your ship and gracefully move on.
