my experience with the doking computer:

Small fighter craft and online OPEN: Crap! Doesnt work!

Transporter and online SOLO: Works fine!

Docking computer is for pu...., eee.. puppys!:D Is easy to dock, and autodock is killing all fun.

Maybe yours running on windows 95? Maybe you need update? :D

Again I got the puppy docking computer for comodity, not to use it every single time because it takes a while I can dock in a quarter of the time myself. But sometimes you have to answer the phone or something like that needs autopilot (I've already crashed my ship for talking on the phone while driving)

Puppies are no substitute for skill. But seriously manual docking is not hard at all, its probably quicker than automated as well, although i haven't tried automated to be fair.

Docking Computer Not Working

I have been having a lot of problems with the Docking Computer it will keep crashing me. It dose it intermittently to the point that I never get past 100K in credit.

So not worth playing with one which should not happen and also gives me the feeling not to play at all as its not worth it

Well finally manage to get a Lakon type 9 and omg this is a puppying beast of a ship. I can feel the adrenaline as I try to leave a station with the type 9 and only 2 credits left xD.

Manage to dock on another station were I was able to dock with the sweat on my brow (literally), and for this decide to get a puppy autodock computer again.

Used it once on the edge of my chair as I had only 233CR for this run and surprisingly did very well (or at least way more than me)

I love that docking a type 9 is such a challenge but Ill probably stay with rhe puppy autodock while I gather money for insurance.

After I get money for insure the puppy autodock goes bye bye, so if you see a type 9 aproaching the station stay clear of the entrance :D

I really don't get what are the instructions on this puppy autodock. I aligned the ship a few 60m away from the entrance, activated the puppy thing, and it just started dancing and wemt of aligment just to enter by puppying YAWNING. Can someone explain me what the pup is wrong with this

For the record.I love this post. I took my comp out after losing 1 cobra. And seeing a huge 9 getting stuck in the gate at the comp moved it everywhich way trying to dislodge itself from the gate....side note. I had stepped to the side to let him in. But as my leaving time was going down, i first tried to request a new landing permission from within the station..'denied'! And in the end had to squeek down the side risking everything, and scraping paint off the hull to get out before time elapsed. Got lucky. Out no damage. But i could have gotten stuck in there myself.

[REQUEST] Dangerous Docking Computer

While watching SideStrafe docking in ED on his stream (I recommend him) with the classical music playing, I commented on how slow and boring (don't space me) the process was. At this time an idea came to me: How about a docking computer that would, instead of playing it safe with relaxing classical music, play it risky with a high-speed docking run whilst playing none other than Antonin Dvorak's New World Symphony, 4th Movement?
This would be an option available to those who fly fast and Dangerous, although manual piloting would make the exercise pointless.

Should this be implemented? Can it be practical or just a gimmick for fun?

Puppy eh? I can dig that. It's certainly more charming than Battlestar Galactica's "frack". Even though I would've picked something shorter. Perhaps something like "Rhododendron" :D

Bypassing the swear filter is an offense on these forums, you know? I already got warned because of it. ;)

On the docking computer: Agreed, as the general AI, it still needs much work to make docking smooth and safe for people who want to use it... not faster, mind you, just safe... there should be alteast one drawback for using it.

If you have Voice Attack, you can put the music on as an audio file which then comes on when you ask the computer to start the docking process. :D

Docking computer usually goes slower if you let it take over at a weird angle and the dock is busy.

If you are approaching on the right vector and there is nothing in the way it's reasonably quick, still no where near as fast as a decent pilot can dock and i hope it stays that way.

Slower docking should be the penalty for players who don't want (or cant) to dock manually.

Docking is pretty easy.. And actually rather fun once you get use to it. In my Hauler I'm already use to boosting out of the dock at full speed and haven't crashed yet. Also it's kinda fun to watch the newer players and large ships cower out of your way. But really, I haven't used the docking computer yet and I haven't really seen a benefit or need to. I personally see it as a learning aide.

After a weekend of playing ED I've reached the point where I never want to hear a waltz again. I've tried turning off the music, but I still get The Blue Danube playing away when I auto-dock. On top of that, the auto dock seems to take forever to the point where I've left the ship to it, wandered off to make a cup of tea and returned to find my Cobra Mk 3 still wafting gently towards the back of the station, in no particular hurry.

Can we please have this feature looked into?
