...when You play the blue danube backwards You can hear satanic verses wich make You kill people an torture small animals!

beware!

I have to say the Docking Computer kinda scares me a little. It lines up perfectly for a dock then just jams the thrusters on full power and belly flops my ship onto the landing pad without being on target, skidding off to one side making the shields scream. Kinda reminds me of the crash landing of Serenity in the film. I have performed some amazing landings myself but always on target and a darn sight gentler.

So please Frontier guys .. please make a docking computer that isnt as suicidal as me. On target and softer on the suspension and shields is needed .. or is the DC Windows based and prefers to crash ??? lol

My idea to use docking computer, is it possible?

Hi Space Friends! :)
I've heard that docking computer could be very.... ehm... dangerous! Can cause crashes in Stations! But I'd like to use it especially to let it find the Coriolis Stations entrance, my.... nightmare! After find it, can I take manually controls easy without problems and finish docking by myself?
Thanks!

you need to be able to see the face of the station with the entrance and have throttle at zero, before it kicks in

Select the station and the hologram has arrows that point to the entrance. Also, when facing the letter box the station will be turning anti-clockwise.

You can shut it down by cutting it's power in the right hand control panel (modules section). You can also tap your forward or reverse throttle when you get near the pad and it will disengage (but stopping will turn it on again).

What the other replies said.

There needs to be a direct line of sight between the entrance of the station and your ship for the Docking Computer to function.

For outposts you need a direct line of sight to the landing pad.

However, the hologram on lower left (if station is targetted) will show you where the entrance is in relation to where your ship is pointing. That last part is very important. The 3D hologram doesn't show your location in relation to the station. By changing which way your ship is pointing in space you can basically turn the 3D hologram around. It's a bit awkward to explain but you will see it clearly in-game when you change your ships direction and keep looking at the 3D hologram.

Couple of pointers to find the entrance:

1) Entrance is ALWAYS on the side/face of the station that rotates COUNTER-clockwise.
2) Entrance is, usually, towards the planet which the station is in orbit around.
3) Entrance is shown on the 3D hologram as a letterbox/rectangle, and arrows on side of hologram point to entrance.
4) Watching other ships visually and/or on scanner can aid you in finding where entrance is as they usually hang out near it.
5) Some stations have a bunch of advertisement holo-banners floating around outside of the station. Spot those and you got the entrance.

So... thank you all for your very detailed explanations about docking in Coriolis Stations!!! I sill prefere other kinds of docking....!!!!!!! :D
And..... I'll not buy a useless docking computer for my business! ;)

Joe Spivey allready answered how to find the entrance to the Coriolis. I always ask for dockig permision when I'm at 7km and fly with big speed in the direction of station and its airlock but NEVER directly into station. Always fly into the open space, one wrong key press on Tab activates your AB and you may get hammered into the station.
I position myself at least looing to the Coriolis side where airlock is and then set thrusters to 0, DC kicks in and in 99% I let him do all the job (align with airlock, moving forward, keeping rotation with station) but keeping my eye on radar. If there is NPC comming in/out of the station they will ram directly into you, its like they don't see you at all :)
If I am in danger of hitting walls, I just press back throtle and pull out myself from docking direction ...wait to clear and let DC run again :)

I have never lost my ship due to DC.

Docking is pretty easy.. And actually rather fun once you get use to it. In my Hauler I'm already use to boosting out of the dock at full speed and haven't crashed yet. Also it's kinda fun to watch the newer players and large ships cower out of your way. But really, I haven't used the docking computer yet and I haven't really seen a benefit or need to. I personally see it as a learning aide.
Ever got your heart rate over 200 cause you hit full thrusters and then noticed the type9 just starting to dock? :D
Aside that, yeah, docking is fun. I love it to throttle up and put myself in front the ship which just waits at the entrance to leave the station, maybe with a little backwards thrust :D

That is interesting, Painkiller, maybe one day I'll install DC! In my opinion it makes the game even more involving! But I don't want absolutely loose money or aggravate reputation for crash into Stations or Ships!!! ;)

DOCKING COMPUTER

Hi there congratulations for a excellent and addictive game but i am very disappointed with one tiny thing.
Since i am a fan of the original elite which i managed to finish and enjoy fully, i always like hearing the docking computer music (blue danube) when docking.
My big complain about elite dangerous is that although you can have it as an equipment you can't enjoy it in every ship without sacrificing a hard point.
To my humble opinion i think there should be a special hard point for this in all ships so everyone wanted could buy it and equip its own ship if they wanted to.
i don't this that it's too much to ask and that it gives so much "advantage" to someone who has it! Although some people in the forums are talking that it's useless and not always successful it's fun for me an i think some other find it fun too
Also i think that it should be switched on or off at the player's discretion with a key press.
that's all i wanted to say, i hope i didn't tire you too much, keep up the good work and please tell me that you will take this matter in consideration!

Actually I think it should go in a utility slot rather than a module slot. Or maybe add a new kind of slot related to ship software extensions or something similar.

Every ship should have at least one size 1 slot IMHO in any case, as using size 1 modules in size 3 slots (in some cases) seems a complete waste.

I agree though I have found at least 3 different bugs in the Docking Computer.
1 Perpetual queueing
2 It wont land on pad 2 on one type of starport
3 It sometimes craps out completely and starts reversing you back out of the starport.

For something that works so poorly I think it is not reasonable that it takes up cargo space.

I say merge it with an in-system supercruise autopilot and fix all its issues so that it finally works effectively, then we can talk about it taking up a module slot. At the moment it is just useless junk that more likely gets your ship blown up then safely docking you.

Nah, I use it on my T7 all the time, and as long as you line it up initially it works fine. It does occasionally do a little dance on the pad but otherwise not had an issue since Beta with it. Am sure the auto-pilot haters will rant away, but I don't really care, it works for me! ;)

I believe in Gamma and earlier it got a bad rep as its path-finding was tied to the client's frame-rate, which obviously dropped dramatically in stations for most people. AFAIK this was fixed.
