What speed does it boost in at, and what ship are you using?

What quality thrusters have you got?

I've never used the docking computer personally (only got one fine so far in 1.3 ;))

I know that landing the Asp with D2 thrusters takes a lot more foresight, time and patience than with normal thrusters.

Nope. It's working now...

Well that solves it then.

Glad to hear it! the docking computer is madder than a box of frogs! it's like trusting the road runner to park your car LOL, after all you need to slow down so it can engage and the first thing it does is 4 pips to engine and hit the boost crazy! then to undermine your confidence even more it puts 4 pips to systems/shields and heads for the slot as you hold onto your seat and don't even mention what it's like at outposts!

TBH I hadn't fitted one in ages but it makes me grin every time I use it long live the CDC (crazy docking computer)

Why oh why would anyone ever use the docking computer?

You're working on the assumption that it's needed, that's why you can't understand it. Personally I have months of experience in docking T9's (lift feet) and Anaconda's (duck head) long before they even put the DC into the game. I don't use one because I have to, I use one because I choose to.

Assuming it works the same as pre update just try it and see, especially at outposts it's hard to keep away from the controls!

Because it's an awesome tool for a trader and great if you trade with no shields. I replot my course and stuff while auto dock is doing it's thing. :)

It's the worst thing for a trader as time is money. I come in at almost full throttle, pull back just at the entrance, and land, all without shields. I plot my next jump point while my ship is on the pad turning to take off.

It isn't if you aren't concerned with min/maxing your profit per second.

Why oh why would anyone ever use the docking computer? It's slow and it takes up a module slot and manual docking is easy unless you want to speed dock.

Personally I use it because I can be lazy and not do anything whilst docking, it frees me up to go get a drink, go to toilet etc. It may be slow but damn its convienient.

The new docking computer lands considerably faster than most cmdrs manually land. It is also safe, has no weight, no meaningful energy requirements, only takes a C1 slot and exempts you from speeding laws. At 4500cr, that is a pretty good bargain me thinks. As for those who claim plotting a new route while entering the hangar is 1.4 seconds faster than plotting while using the DC: you have a very different idea of what 'fun' is. ;)

Agreed, it's great for maximising time when getting a drink / getting rid of your drink ^^

I often come through the slot manually and then let the docking computer put it on the pad...depending on your pad it can do it a lot quicker than manually sometimes as it can land blind on the pads just inside he door.

It is not slow any more, not after SJA did her magic. It is probably faster than most CMDRs.

Another reason for using one is to get around the silly speed limit thing. Speed limits are ignored when using the docking computer: the assumption being that you cannot ram something (which is what the speed limit is in there to stop) deliberately when the docking computer is driving the ship.

While I manually dock at stations the docking computer is a beast at outposts. Like it turbo crazy docks at outposts really well, faster than I can because I often spend 30 seconds trying to find the damn pad.

Is there anyway to toggle on/off the docking computer without having to do it through the modules panel?
