Has anyone tried trolling the docking computer yet? What does it do if it can't get a good line-up at the slot?

Now I understand why everyone is flying around in the stations all freaky looking... :S
I bought a docking computer just to see what it was like...
Aside from taking a good few minutes to dock it was moving and spinning and shaking like an old lady at a roller disco!
Laughed my ass off when I saw everyone else around me dancing to the same tune!
Classic Elite!!!

Not having read the entire thread - I have a feeling it's gonna be a vital piece of kit when you get to the honking great ships. No problem getting into the slot and then trying to fit onto the pad without scraping the sides. Who wants a ship with shoddy paint work?

You know why it has the soothing music?
Because it's so terrible at actually docking your ship. So they need to calm you down while you watch
Seriously every time I turn the thing on I cringe at its horrible antics as it frantically flops about and inevitably smacks down onto the landing pad.

One thing I really hate about the Docking Computer (which is really noticeable in a Lakon type 6 and especially on Pad 45) is the fact that it slams the ship down onto the pad.
On almost every landing recently I've been screaming expletives at it because it's slammed in down and skidded it right across the pad, before skidding it back again.
Fortunately it seems that your ship is invulnerable while under it's control as I've lost neither shields or received hull damage.

Docking Computer not working

I have encountered a bug when using the docking computer in my hauler:
The computer moves my ship above the correct pad but places it slightly left of it. As a result the ship just hovers over the pad and never actually touches down. I can wait as long as I want but the computer never corrects the position of my ship nor lands.

Docking computer

True, but I would be tempted to say that, when you are in an Anaconda, if someone doesnt get out of your way, it is there fault when they break up on your hull. :D
He he, you might still refer to my landings as suicidal then. 100 tons o' cargo @ 130m/s with FAoff.XD
I got bored of landing the type 6 normally, so I've adopted a slightly more.. Interesting system to docking.
Very fun, hasn't gone wrong.. Yet. :)

I'm never ever letting this drunken ai fly my annie

OK after more experimentation with autodocking I have come to the conclusion that rather than letting the current auto dock land my Annie (when I get one) id rather fly it into an asteroid, as both would have the same outcome but one would have a lot more collateral damage :)

Seriously the way it slams down your ships and violently spins me around has led me to the conclusion that the auto docking system is likely to take a fair few other ships trying to dock and itself in the process. Hopefully the system will become a lot more fleshed out in the future.

Docking computers for the win!!

They're great - I highly recommend them...Plus you get to listen to that old favourite 'blue danube' as you dock.

Presumably if you wanted to dock manually then you turn the docking computers off in the modules section of the right panel?

Anyway, i'm impressed, they're ace. :D

I like it when games play themselves sometimes. the docking computer is a nice change of pace. It's not brilliant yet :)

Haha.

I came out of one station and saw a scene in front of me that can only be described as Lakon Pron.

As Lisa Simpson would say, "Its like that one Lakon is trying to jump over that other Lakon, but cant quite make it each time".

dockin puter

HAHA! i got me a docking puter, just to see what it was like, and i had to laugh when i heard the ole "blue danube"... ahh reminded me of the ole commadore 64 elite! too funny! p.s. the only good thing about the d.c. is the i can go grab a drink whilst it docks for me now... otherwise i'd much rather dock myself.. there should be a way to shut the thing off too, when i dont want to use it:cool:

Haha, I just got it too to see what it would do too. Scared the crap out of me with the crazy flying though. Especially after seeing the AI ships crash all over the stations I was sure my Hauler was cooked. I sold it back after one use.

You can turn it off in the right MFD under the systems tab (the tab that you set priorities).

HAHA! I'm quite enjoying docking manually, because I've become quite used to it now after all those times crashing onto the landing pad.

Why are we starting posts with "HAHA!" again?:S

ive gone through various devices to use for flying, and found (for me) was a xbox gamepad worked best.
docking is extremely easy using one; and probably is the most enjoyable part of the game for me at the moment -> considering im **** at combat, and i was **** with mouse/keyboard, and also a hotas stick.

HAHA! (why am I still startig with that?)

Well, I'm using a cheapo PC gamepad, and it's not too bad for docking with the dpad assigned to thrusters.
