Just bought a hauler (lost my docking computer in the process?) anyway, trying to find where I originally got one for my sidewinder, cannot find one now im in the Hauler, any help chans?

Docking computer is seriously broken; bought one to save time lol and even when it works it takes x10 longer than me to dock.
More often than not my ship is just left spinning in space outside the doorway until the docking timer runs out.
Either that or it tries to dock me backwards which also doesn't work.

Also when I equipped the DC my thrusters stopped working in that even though I've now junked the DC I have lost the ability to manually thrust; checked all my settings and joystick and everything is fine from that front.

Complete waste of 4k as it stands.

Request docking when you're close to the entrance so that it doesn't take very long, at most takes 2 minutes if you do it that way.

That said, it almost destroyed my hauler, for some reason every time it lands on the pad, it slams down like a psycho. Smashed me up real good.

Unless you're drunk, or unless the AI improves, don't use it.

Autopilot/DockinComp. and something

Hello!

Spent a lot of time in these forums.. finally decided to join. :)

What if the "docking computer" would be renamed "autopilot".
Besides docking it could do other things.
Like align with target, fallow target, match target
speed... or something like that. Or is that terrible idea?

Also i would like a little crosshair so I'd know exact point where my ship was going. Now when I'm in SC, I have to make lots of corrections to be aligned with target.

And there is something wrong with black market. I usually go through menus with keyboard or joystick,
but when I try to sell something in black market, I have to click item I'm selling with my mouse.

It would be great if you get some information how much your jump distance changes if I'm upgrading my ship.

"Request docking" should be one button press.

Is Type-6 fun? Cobra is the biggest ship I've had.

Sorry if these are already in forum.... but I'm on vacation, and too lazy/drunk to search answers to life.

I've tried it from directly in front of the letterbox at Aulin about 100m out and I was taken vertically up and ended up bouncing along the edge of the outer rim of the 'wheel'.
I just don't understand how (from memory) the old Elite which used what, 16k or something managed this with precision and here we are thirty years later and my 5 year old could do a better job of parking a ship.

Just doesn't make sense.

Remember that speccy you were running it on? That's what they bolted to your ship as a docking computer, and the years have not been kind to it....

my docking computer started to think that the entrance to the station was a big wall, so after going to 20% hull a few times i sold it.

Docking computers are nice, especially for the type 9 and anaconda, but they take so long, and i found out i'm better off docking on my own.

Docking Computer Bug?

I was quite pleased listening to Blue Danube watching my ship dock (albeit a bit slowly) but then it seemed to get confused about orientation and flew sideways down to the floor for a bit before recovering and flying over to the bay. Then it preceeded to land right in the middle but docking didn't complete and there was the horrid scraping sound as it slid all over the bay - but wasn't damaging shields. I couldn't figure out how to turn it off so had to save/exit. On re-docking I did not slow down enough to engage the docking computer while entering the station and at no point after that did it engage (so I had to land manually). Anyone else seen this?

Haven't seen it, but if it happens again, you can turn the docking computer off by going to your right menu, modules tab, then go down to the docking module and select it (enter) will toggle it off or on.

Also useful if you have it fitted but rarely use it.

I found that the DC does not engage inside the station it only works from the outside and if you are haveing problems , using thrusters does seem to disengage the DC, twice hade my type 9 try to dock nose first , did a reverse thrust and it let me dock manually , also had the scraping along the bottom so i used the thrusters to go back up , again it disengaged DC

Update: Next attempt much the same but after a short bit of scraping docked OK.. definately wakes you up after a long boring flight!

Thanks for on/off help!

Wow the docking computer is pretty darn dumb. You'd think they'd make it almost as smart as a bot or something. I turned it on and had to run for a 10 mins to do something. The ship was only just landing when I got back and only had 9% hull left :p cost me tens of thousands to fix it. In our primitive age today we have fully automated aircraft that can take off unassisted fly halfway around the world and then land completely unassisted and 1000 years from now a computer can't land a spaceship only going a meter per second without ramming into things?

Is docking computer broken?

I have lakon 6 and docking can be sometimes really hard, but if i get it, will i crash about all things when docking computer is on? Have u lost u ships because that computer? It is safe?

Docking without a Docking Computer is a bit like going deer-hunting without an accordion.

All you leave behind is a lot of noisy baggage ;)

I have been using a Docking computer with a lakon 6 due to how hard it has been to get the station to register the ship is in the right place to dock.

Apart from the DC slamming the ship into the pad to get the station to register I have had no problems.

I have noticed though that the DC docks the Lakon 6 at the "9 O'clock" position of the pad so I wonder if that is part of the problem with the lakon with where it thinks the middle of the ship is.

Personal experience says the Docking Computer on the Lakon is 50/50. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Example 1 - I lined up with the station mailslot at 3km out. I ask permission to dock, it was granted, DC takes over. As it approached to about 500m, it started to spaz out and went zig-zagging across the mailslot, never actually aiming for it.

It did this for the next 6 or so minutes until I gave up and took over manual control and docked it in under a minute.

Example 2 - I was coming into system at an oblique trajectory. Once I passed the station I asked for permission to dock and the DC took over. Flawless landing, took about 4 mins or so.

Example 3 - Lined up mailslot, asked permission, got it. DC took over, went into station, hovered over landing pad and stayed put there. Never moved from that position. I watched the clock countdown till it was 2 mins left before I took over and just landed the Lakon manually onto the pad.

So.... kinda hit and miss.
