The elusive 932 m/s - what's wrong with this build?

^ Even fully PvP fit the Viper scarcely drops below 650.

A lucky ram will kill it off sure, but more or less every projectile weapon, gimbal or turreted, let alone fixed are nothing more than a handicap. With lasers being more or less useless it can make a lone pilot a threat, if you're unlucky enough to run into four with good pilots, you either die or run, it does'nt matter how good you think you are or your ship is.

Not sure about a viper pvp build, seeing its agility is somewhat lacking, a chiefbeef outturns it.

Can I put a 1A (pre-modded?) shield on the Imperial Eagle? I noticed on Jameson that the only class 1 that was available for me was 1C Bi-weave (in red).

The 1A fuel scoop is painfuly slow and I get a lot of heat using it. My optimal setup will include a 3H Guardian FSD booster for travel only. I tested this setup from Jameson to Felicity and it was fine, although hot and with a lot of in and out while scooping with the 1A fuel scoop.

Otherwise I will put a class 1 FSD booster, a 2D shield, a 3A fuel scoop and get only 14ly jump. So I'd preffer a 1A shield, 2A fs and 3H FSD boost, if possible.

A 2D shield with Enhanced Low Power G3 and stripped down is only 0.59 tonnes, a size 1 shield is 1.3 tonnes. That and adding stripped downs where missing gets your Coriolis build to 931.

So what’s with the docking computer? Is that just to annoy griefers?

it looks like if you drop one weapon, it could boost at 932.

or you could drop all the weapons and switch to a vanilla 2A power plant (.40 heat efficiency). I tried a D-rated/Grade-1 overcharged power plant on an ieagle, and fuel scooping was a very unpleasant experience (a grade 5 overcharged D-rated power plant would likely burst into flames if you just looked at a star.)

Docking computer in a racer is brilliant, weighs 0 tons and gives you a full speed landing. First time I landed at a planetary base using it I laughed for ages after it boosted across the base at full speed, bouncing off of installations...

That build from my first post may be buggy (Coriolis didn't apply correctly the secondaries/negatives, probably because of an inherit build from old engineers). That was what puzzled me in the beginning and made me build a racer IEagle. So don't take it as a viable one.

Regarding docking computer, I have one on all my ships. One you are past the learning phase, you appreciate the Blue Danube and a few moments to relax when docking. I used one back in the day even when smuggling and give it control after entering the station full speed (you give control when throttle to zero, but you gain it back when you accelerate).

Quite a few ships can outturn it, it's the consistent speed and lateral profile that allow the Viper to be such a difficult customer, plus the fact it has the best perma boost out of all the smalls (The MIV is also included here) it makes it a deadly machine, it hits harder than a Courier, can maintain pressure and position far better, and accelerates better than anything in the stars.

Acceleration and ability to reposition are what wins PvP fights. Yeah sure you have to be able to either dodge bullets (Which the Viper can do with ease), or you have to be able to take a few hits (FDL with massive shields), but the majority of it is how fast you can line up and land a hit, then move out the way of your opponents shots and refire. If you can chain this together in a Viper you become an incredibly difficult target and a serious threat.
