The Exploration Discussion Thread!

I'd definitely be interested in signing up :)

No idea how you'd go about it setting it up though.
Well thats a problem for me but im looking it up now at the moment when i create it it will just be ingame with a home system but i might ask frontier if i might be able to get my own station for this explorers group

Ambitious but possible

Best of luck with your Sag A trip Cmdr :D

If you need any help there's loads of seasoned explorers and Sag A veterans on this thread so just shout up and someone will be able to point you in the right direction :D

Cheers mate, I've already been on a 10 million credit trip, pretty sure I'll be OK. Im super [redacted] about scoping out every jump I make, and I've learned to tell a scannable planet from a duff one on the system map. Sag A and neutron star fields here I come!

(There may be a lengthy time-out for Fallout 4 though...)

After returning from Sag A have decided to go exploring again in my new Clipper. Currently about 2k out around the North America Nebula, any thoughts about where to go from here. Not planning on returning until Christmas.

Sounds good :D

I've looked at joining groups on Elite but a lot of them seem to be...erm...not my thing, shall we say :D

If this group turns out to be anything like this thread then it'll be great! Everyone is helpful and friendly which, for me, is what it's all about :D

Awesome! Another Clipper Explorer! :D

We, Sir, are a rare breed indeed! :D

I'm not online at the mo so can't check names/places but if your after first discoverys then head for places high or low above the galactic plain, folk seem not to detour up or down so much and I've had some good finds doing this :D

Have you been to the Omega & Eagle nebulae yet? There is a field of class B stars right outside the Omega Nebula. The eagle nebula has a densly packed nursery of class F stars. The nursery contains about 15 columns of 6-10 stars per column.

Update on final days of trip. After a day off I got some solid time in to explore. I left off parked just outside the Soul nebula and spent most of my day (play time wise) exploring Soul and then Heart. I was able to leave my mark and tag a few first discoveries in each, but nothing really significant. At the end of the day, I parked in a system just outside of the Heart nebula. Originally I had plans head over toward the Bubble nebula and visit a few smaller nebulas in that area. However, I found myself starting to miss running Fuel Rat rescues and I was starting to get the itch to do a little combat as well. I decided I would begin to head back home the next day.

Resuming my trip, I turned my Asp back toward the "Bubble. I choose to come in high on the galactic plan hoping to get off the beaten path and land some more first discoveries. It seems many explorers think in straight lines instead of in three dimensions. I netted myself scans of 10-12 more water worlds and several more terraformable worlds along with one more neutron star. Amongst all these discoveries I found a brown dwarf with a very large ring system around it.

I also got a good close up of an ammonia world. Looks a bit dirty.

The plan seemed to be working well until it came time to cross from one spiral arm to the other. Stars were suddenly few and very far in between. Navigating became very difficult. I was given an ominous reminder how dangerous exploration can be as I began my crossing.

Ultimately, I was forced to back track at one point and side step at another until I was lower on the galactic plane were I could safely plot a course. Unfortunately this also put me back on the beat path so I made the decision to blast back home with what I had. I still "honked" my discovery scanner in each system but the priority had changed.

Now I am safely docked at home. I've sold off the survey canisters I picked up. I've also repaired and refitted my ship. I'm about to begin selling off my data. I will update with progress if anyone is interested.

Welcome home Cmdr, glad you made it back in one piece. Hope it turns out to have been a lucrative trip too :D

Hi guys, I'm a novice explorer and I am looking to travel further afield than I have (Eskimo nebula and Betelgeuse), any advice or tips?
Anywhere particularly spectacular I should check out?

And so the journey continues. Finding myself 16k ly in, I hit a few thousand light years of skull cracking boredom, but now I'm finding new and interesting things again.

The fabled ringed terraformable water world

Jumped out of hyperspace to this, nearly shat myself.

My first black hole...not nearly as impressive as I had hoped

The coolest heavy metal planet I've seen

This is just what I've taken screen shots of. Found a terraformable orbiting a neutron star, seemed out of place. More ringed stars. I've veered off corse quite a bit, I'll get to Sag A eventually.

Made it home

So I've finally made it home after my sag a trip took me about a month I think with time limiting family restraints :)
Can't believe how long it took to hand all the data in and the amount of first discoveries I've made, I've ranked up to ranger in one go :)
Have really enjoyed it and after initially thinking I can't wait to do some missions I'm already looking at where to disappear off to next :)
Gonna spend some time in CFZ's in my FAS then off on a jolly so any good ideas of where to go would be appreciated ;)

Hi I'm 1000lyrs from sag A and struggling to get the game to sort out my routes gets to 97% and stays loading! Image tried 100lyr routes to 500 lyrs!! I'm just going to get the achievement and turn it off no way I'm doing this all the way back! Thought about blowing the ship up but have a CG on my transaction that's worth 7.5 million and then there's the ASP rebut not only that the systems I've scanned and the earth like planets I've found! Grrrr
