The Exploration Discussion Thread!

I am a little over 1k LY away from the Sag A* on my home bound trip but am over 2.5k LY 'under' the Galaxy.

I have to tell you, it's a surreal feeling being in the bit between the light and the darkness. The darkness outside the Galaxy just feels so absolute and it does give the impression that I could 'fall off'. There is certainly a real sense of loneliness down here - if you break down, no one is going to get to you. Which is daft as you are just as alone inside the core as you are out. Roads less travelled etc. I guess...

Btw, best of luck on your journey Statis Wolf. Keep the posts coming in.

I was looking at your screenies and clips last night Tafmeister, you're right about the beauty of that 'glowing blanket.'

I'm thinking about going the opposite direction from the core and pushing out towards the nebulae under the galactic plane; any info on how well-travelled that area is? Does everyone just head for SgrA* & Beagle Point? Also has anyone done 'constellation checklists?' I was considering visiting, say, every star in Orion.

I'm about 5k Lys from Sag*A on my return trip. I'm doing the honk and jump method this trip. I'm running a high road back to the bubble. Maybe 1K Lys above the plane or so. Saw Sag*A and the GA. If anyone wants, my GT is Pinkmist00106, give me a shout over comms.

The trouble with doing that is the stars only look close to each other from Earth's position, when they're actually thousands of LY apart (closer/further away) which isn't apparent from here

Haha, yeah, I'm well aware of that, but they'd be the key waypoints on a wandering route.

You can turn on constelations but they only show on the galaxy map when you're on Sol in the galaxy map.

I was rather suprised to see some stars be so close and others be so far away when I changed the perspective a little.

Oh, sorry. Good idea though

No wukkas, and thanks.

Does anyone know for certain whether you can SuperCruise between systems? I've seen statements to the contrary but I have a lot of time on my hands and really want to go looking for generational ships in the dark between the stars...

No. Well you can travel to that location but because stations, moons, planets and stars are loaded in on the hyperspace screen there'll be nothing there when you eventually arrive

Left again for Sag A today. I dashed back out to the area where I found the ELW and resumed from there as I just started getting into an area where I wasn't seeing player names very often. After I got there I starting picking my jumps rather than plotting entire routes. I'm taking my time. I think I only advanced a little over 200 LY in the direction of the core. Didn't see anything very interesting today but there is still a very long way to go.

After talking to a couple of other Corvette owners that have been to Sag A, I tweaked my build a bit before leaving. I gained one whole light year on my jump range. Doesn't sound like much but when you have a small range to begin with everything helps. Until I get closer to the core it could be the difference between making the next jump or back tracking a bit. Plus I put a bunch of credits back in my pocket. The "Core"vette is handling well, but I think my Cutter would've made for better photo-ops.

Speaking of photo-ops, I'd love to meet up with anyone that's out way if we can arrange it. My gtag is: Stasis W0lf.
Added you. Don't have a mic atm, but just nice to see another green blip on my galaxy map that isnt in the bubble ;)

When one honks but does not do a detailed scan - are credits made albeit at a minimum / reduced value?

Yes, you make a small amount of money. If you do Sagittarius A trip just honking you can get over 10m depending on how many systems you honk. Not sure if it includes trip home but I think it does. I have never tried this myself though so that's a very rough estimate based on things I've read.

It's not the best way to make money, but If you are just trying to get somewhere quickly it's worth honking along the trip as you do get a small bit of money.

I'll let ya'll know what it pays outsince thats what I'm doing. Ive scanned some stars and planets thought, but it's mostly just honking.

Also my star and planet scans aren't detailed. Didn't have the space to fit a DS in my DBS. I wish now I didn't have shields. Oh well lessons learned. Next trip out will be in a bigger ship with more space.
